  1. Not going to lie, got a better response than I expected:

    Hello,

    Thank you for your message.
At the moment the firmware update is through the console. I'll get in touch with the engineering department to get information about this. Can you let me know how are you going to use the controller, playing in a PC, for example?

We look forward to your response.

    Kind regards,
    Atari VCS Support

    Hopefully get some good news.

Good question, and I would say the answer to that is no.  The joystick was only ever intended for use with the Atari VCS as accessory for it.  That being said Atari does sell the controller separately so they should really come up with a ways for those who don't own and Atari VCS to update the controllers.  I would recommend contacting Atari Support, but don't expect a solution will be forthcoming at this time, but if if put a in a request they can look into how in future to provide this service to those like you who have an Atari Classic Joystick or Modern controller but cannot update the firmware on them because you don't own an Atari VCS console.

Thanks for the reply mate, I’ll do exactly that. If/when I get a reply I’ll post an update.

  3. I just got third new Analogue NT Mini for warranty, why the hell they send me faulty shit, look dat shit!! I just cancel my Super NT orders, cause they sell people full of shit!

Didn’t someone say that there is a bug with PAL composite video on the latest jailbreak firmware for the Nt mini? I’d test but I don’t have the cables.

@Kevtris dunno if you can confirm?

  4. Still watching Leo's live stream video, but JPS on the ResetEra forums states these are some takeaways from the chat:

    More infos from Kevtris:

    - New update will be released within one week.
    - DSP1-4 support would be technically possible, SA-1/SuperFX are not possible, because the ROM is located behind those special chips and the memory bandwidth of the chips in the Super Nt is not good enough.
    - Full Range / Limited Range is already done.
    - Work on new scanlines hasn't started, he wants to fix other problems first.
    - PSX and Mega CD use a BIOS and the copyright is still valid for decades, so they couldn't release FPGA solutions that work out of the box.

  5. Just renewed my membership to AtariAge ... it feels good and I get to pester around for another year ;-)

I saw a few new faces in this thread, why don't you subscribe to AtariAge? It's 30US$ for 1Y and you'll feel so much better being able to edit your old posts way past that meager 1H (retro-edit I call it) and you can even suppress that "edited by ...." little note when you do so ("amirite?" I call it) ... anyhow AtariAge is a great community (don't let me, myself and I make you believe otherwise) and as you can see it's not just about Atari, and if kevtris chose to have his own thread on it and be a subscriber there's gotta be a reason ... the guy is a genius for crying out loud ... so as Nike commercials say "Just Do It."

I've thought about it, but so far I've only participated in this thread.

  6. A = start address of the sample. L = length of the sample. The arrow indicates if the sample is looped. straight = not looped, sample plays once. circular = sample is looped. The A/L values are the values written into the DPCM registers themselves. This mainly lets you see if it is changing the sample and if so which one it is by its address. Some tunes will bankswitch DPCM area though so this isn't sure fire always going to be the case, but it just gives you more information to watch while it plays back.

Thanks man, super informative. Got a few mates who are making a video on some top NES tracks from various games, helping them capture the audio with the Nt mini.

  7. I hate to say this, but I believe my Analogue Super Nt could be defective.

I've waited until testing it with several different configurations, and comparing with my original SNES system, before posting about it.

The problem I am experiencing is audio popping. It sounds a lot like clipping effects.

I originally thought it was just during Rock & Roll Racing, but it turns out I noticed it more because I played it with headphones on, and the audio turned up a bit.

I then connected the Super Nt in my bedroom, to my 24" HD display, and again I used headphones, and heard the popping sounds during everything.

This also includes the Analogue Nt logo startup, as well as both Super Turrican games. Which is disappointing, and pretty much eliminates any cartridges, or even the port itself.

    Stuff I've tried:

    • Resetting the Super Nt to default settings
    • Connecting to 3 different HD displays
    • Switching out HDMI cables
    • Changing USB power cable
    • Trying other carts, including the SD2SNES, and several original SNES carts

I didn't try changing any firmware yet, because I didn't want to complicate things.

I did read the readme for 4.1, and it said nothing about any fixing audio issues.

Has anyone else noticed an audio issue like this?

Can an FPGA board have a specific audio issue, while everything else seems fine? Maybe it's something wrong with the HDMI port?

I'm not sure what else I can try, but I'm open to ideas. Otherwise I will have to contact Analogue about a possible replacement.

Glad to know this isn't just me. I tried Super Metroid the other day on the latest JB firmware and noticed a tonne of audio pops and crackles. I also noticed it while wearing headphones.

Haven't had time to try much else since then, nor did I want to with the saving issue.

  8.

Did kevtris ever respond to this? I searched and couldn't find a post, sorry.

The only way to get scanlines on the Nt Mini as sharp as the hybrid scanlines on the Super Nt on my 1080p display is to run a vertical 4x multiplier in 1080p60 output with the display set to no overscan. Looks great, but leaves significant empty space top and bottom. Being able to use 5x vertical like the Super Nt would be awesome.

If he did answer, I missed it.

  9. yeah you are right. I think I have it figured out how to make it report properly so it displays as full range. I have this on the list of fixes to add for the next release so hopefully that will fix the problem for people. Funny how we still can't shake the CRT stigma on HDMI with overscan, interlace, and limited range (to account for synch pulses and such AFAIR). The fix will be to report as "computer" which should clear up the range issues.

I am going to add separate rgb gamma sliders so that should quell all the other issues people had with the brightness stuff, and recalculate how the levels are generated. Maybe in the future I will do some testing on various model SNES to get actual voltage levels to see how linear the DACs are (there's four DACs - the three RGB ones and the overall brightness DAC)

Pardon my ignorance here, but if the Super Nt only outputs a signal in full-range RGB, what happens if my TV only supports limited range?

  10. I think MLiG tested Megaman X3 using Super UFO Pro 8 (used an original japanese cart with the english version from sd card). They commented something in the streming with Kevtris.

They said it only works with the same game from different regions. So for example you could load the US Megaman X3 with the Japanese Megaman X3 cart plugged into the Super UFO. Different game using the same chip do not work.

  11. Figures there would be a jailbreak released today since my SD2SNES arrived yesterday. I told you guys my bad luck would help everyone here!

It might work out! I don't care so much about the extra cores in the JB, but I will care about special chips. More than happy to fork out for the SD2SNES for these, but I don't want to do it unnecessarily, which is why I'd just like some more information.

    Edit: spelling
