      I use a cheap USB composite capture device to stream Mega Drive gameplay footage, but there are probably better solutions...

      That's what I'm doing too.. but I'm trying to configure for the Atari 2600... several resolutions will give me a picture in OBS, but they all jump in one way or another.. I'm trying to figure out the exact resolution that will work... The best I was able to figure out is 480x272 but there is still some jumping.. My jaguar, genesis/32x and Wii all work fine.

      From what I know of 2600 programming, the number of scan lines output by a 2600 is dependent on the game and can vary moment to moment within a single game.

       

      There is no frame buffer to control such parameters.

       

      Using the capture device you describe, I would expect to see different results from different games. There are probably some that will be rock solid.
