  1. So, after several attempts to super glue the posts back on (they kept chipping away every time I tried to insert the screws) I decided to try duct taping the shell together. It looks like it might hold. But the thing with this kind of tape, after a while it starts to slid off. So I'll see how long this lasts.
  2. I took the shield off. I can't find any info about this chip on the web. The chip has 0782 written on it, so my guess is that this was a custom chip designed just for Activision. The wikipedia article for MOS Technology shows a list of chips they made, and they have a 2K chip called the 6540, so I suppose this could also be a variant of that... Ah well... Here ends my exploration. I am no where near being able to burn a simple eprom, let alone being able to add a 74ls04 (hex inverter??). My Kaboom! is officially kaput! Thank you for your reply. This has been a fun rabbit hole to explore.
  3. That's ok. ? Thank you for the clarification. ?
  4. Hair dryer worked! Looking at the board, I see nothing obvious. I don't see any broken solder joints. Can the shield be removed without further damaging the chip? I don't suppose I could get a repro rom to practice my soldering skillz.
  5. I found this after a few more searches on removing labels. I guess I'll try the hair dryer. Once I get it open I'll post some pics if I see nothing obvious.
  6. Thanks for the link! I read this: and that to me pretty much sells it.
  7. I have two kaboom! carts, one works great, the other doesn't work. The non-working one does various things when I turn it on. I have cleaned it, as I do with all my carts, but cleaning doesn't seem to help. Since this is an extra, I thought I'd take it apart and look at it to see if there is anything obvious wrong with it. I am looking for tips and advice on what to look for, and - this is the important one for me - I need to be able to take the cart apart without damaging the label. The label is actually in pretty good condition and I don't want to ruin it. I looked on youtube, but found nothing specific about repairing Activision carts or removing the label safely. I'm hoping I can get some tips and advice on how to go about this.
  8. I was curious about the harmony cart, so I went to the web site to read about it. I couldn't find any product description other than on the order screen where you select the product to buy. That's where I saw the name Encore. I read the manual, but there is no mention of an Encore product. What is the difference between the Harmony and the Encore (besides price)?
  9. I'm turning 50 this year. I still feel like I'm 21. ;-)  Who else is celebrating their Bicentennial this year? ?

I turn the big 5-0 this year as well!  Body has been feeling old for about 5 years now...but apart from that, my hobbies and such have me feeling like you do, somewhere around 21 :)   So is it required that we like, take out our retirement or whatever and buy sports cars, or what?

  10. While I was playing today I dropped my paddle on the floor and it broke apart. I need a replacement shell.

Heh. Without seeing the linked topic, your status update looked like a dating ad.

  13. Just thought I'd mention, I'm not really a collector. I buy the games I want to play, and this one is an extra. So if no one wants it I'll toss it. Kind regards,

  17. I am back from vacation now, so if anybody is interested in these three Atari 2600A motherboards please message me. I have them packed up and ready to go. By the time I hear back from anyone it'll probably be too late today to mail them, so earliest I can ship will be Monday. Just tell me your zip code and I can give you an estimate on the shipping, but it will probably be somewhere between $15 to $20.
  18. For what it's worth, I'm still waiting for this. And I cannot wait for this cartridge. Life, as it always does, has gotten in the way of me pre-ordering this, but I am following with great interest and understanding. I don't care how long it takes to get this working, but when it does I'll be here. In the meantime I follow you on Twitter and I love seeing new tweets from you. Take care and God bless!
  19. Just so everyone sees this, if you're not interested no needed to reply.

  20. I decided not to throw out my three Atari 2600A motherboards. I have had these motherboards for a few years. One of them I removed and cleaned the switches but it actually made it worse. My second board I had removed the switches but never finished after the first board didn't go so well. Both of those boards are socketed, and may need one or more of the IC chips replaced. The third board I have not touched because it is not socketed. I bought it from a man who told me outright that all three chips are bad, so that board needs to be socketed and then the IC chipss replaced. One of the boards is missing a DB-9 joystick port, and I had purchased two new DB-9s, so those will be included. Also included are 3 cap kits from MOJOATOMIC - I bought them from him here in AA in 2017. At any rate, these boards are for sale, and I am asking for offers. I'm not looking to get rich but I will need at least enough to cover the shipping. I figure I'll hold on to thee for another month or so. FYI, I will be away from dec 30 to jan 3, so during those days I may not respond. Feel free to ask me any questions (about these boards ) Kind regards,
  21. Gratz Skr! Now lets have a contest for funniest picture. ?
