CUSB - USB Floppy emulator cased feedback?
David Hefner replied to 256 colors's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
For protected images (STX), the only real viable option is the HxC2000-firmware based devices like PLM mentioned. Flashfloppy works great as far as regular ST files, but at some point, Keir has said he's going to look into adding STX support (probably with the same results and limitations as are in the HxC2000 firmware). It's also very likely that PLM has the games you're looking for adapted to HD play, and tested for functionality (thanks for all that hard work PLM), you'd just need a HD derive like a UltraSatan or SatanDisk to put them on.. -

Here's a writeup on a 4-tos switcher, it appears to be similar to Peter's post above: http://atari4ever.free.fr/hardware/zip/4tos_swc.zip This is the setup I'm going to use on my MegaSTE, I may work on this sometime this weekend, keep a stock 2.06, the 2.16i from Peter, the 1.62i, and I'm not 100% sure what on the last (Emutos maybe?). -
Euro ST works in North America?
David Hefner replied to 6BQ5's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I strongly suspect that the PT-35A would supply enough power for the system. Anybody know what the output power is on the stocker? -

It doesn't use any -12v, I'm running a Meanwell RD-50A in mine without issue (although it was a tight fit, and required me modify the power supply mount a bit, it does fit).. The RF shield would PROBABLY fit back on, but I left if off. I also could have installed it with the connections on the right and not had to extend the wiring. I'd also wager a RD-35A would power the machine just as well, but it's the same physical size as the RD-50A. I'd also bet that MeanWell makes an open frame supply that WOULD fit fine on that mount, and supplies enough power for the machine. I had to take a tiny bit of metal off the bottom of the MeanWell to make it fit between the mounting posts on the original power supply bracket, you can kind of see it in this picture: -
Yep, 5 minutes and some white double face tape, and done, lol. The XF551 does work now with the modded SDrive-Max, where before it wouldn't work at all (the 1050 would occasionally work with it though). I'll give it a two thumbs up, lol. I've got 2 more boards (plus the IC and resistors) here for this 'gen 1' version if anybody stateside wants them, just let me know via PM. The IC does rest right on top of that crystal, and the 6 pin header sits just flush with the board (had to tack solder 3 leads on the other side to get it to stay), but it does fit.

Got the v1 board installed in my Sdrive-Max a few minutes ago, and I was able to test it with a 1050 drive as 1, and images loaded on 2, 3 & 4. Everything appears to work correctly. Didn't get a chance to check it with my XF551, as I've had a part fall out of the drive mech, lol. I think it's either weight or shielding for the top head..
-
I got my v1 boards in today and put one together. Haven't installed it in my SDrive yet though. I'll try to work on that this weekend. I have to say the boards from OSH Park look very nice, I dig the purple color too, lol.

The BENQ BL3200PT, NEC 1970NX & EA190M were all tried with my NTSC 800XL, not sure how I'd test it in PAL.

Looks like even though mine says no seeders or leechers, I'm still sending out data to whomever wants it: -
End of SIO chain : SIO2SD vs SDrive Max vs [ ... ] ?
David Hefner replied to 6BQ5's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I got a couple Rosewill power bars free buying some other stuff on NewEgg the other day, and they have switches on each output, might make it easier to turn things on in whatever order you'd like.. -

Some of those 'hit and run's may be like my download.. I use a seedbox with Deluge client, but after the download, it shows 0 seeds, 0 leechers. I'll leave it up, and hopefully it'll seed out.. Works much better for me though if there's an actual tracker involved with it (shows no trackers at all). -
I missed this post originally, but I've tried it on my BENQ BL3200, and the Sophia works fine in 1280x1024 resolution.

Atari ST buying advice please?
David Hefner replied to 256 colors's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
On the standard, non-STE machines, I'd go with 1.04/1.02, and skip the 2.06 (Unless you go with ParanoidLittleMan's modified 1.4x that has all the 2.06 bits in it, along with other goodies). You can also use that modified TOS (or another version of it) from him on the STE as well. -

Is that integrated hard disk driver for the US and ACSI by chance in the one you're configuring for me? I don't think that was an option when we talked about it. -

Plans for a 4 way TOS switch, that should work fine in the 1040STE (I'm putting one in my MegaSTE, which uses the same rom layout at the moment): http://atari4ever.free.fr/hardware/zip/4tos_swc.zip That's from : http://atari4ever.free.fr/ -
Just got notification mine were sent to fab, they say they are expecting them back on the 11th. They even give you info about the other orders on your panel: In case you're interested, there are 47 other orders on the panel along with yours, adding up to a total of 249 boards.
-
Wonder how long their free shipping, non-rush orders take? I can't argue with 3 for 4.50, lol. Now to get the other parts needed on the way and test this thing out..

STE's in the US (I'm assuming US since you're looking for NTSC) aren't as numerous, but they do show up from time to time. I got my 1040STE from overseas (France), and put a US keyboard and a Meanwell power supply in it (required modification to the power supply mount, but much more reliable than the aging ST power supply), along with US TOS 2.06 roms. I also installed a Microgotek with a switch to change between the internal floppy and gotek (the method I used doesn't swap them, just selects which is active, you can boot either drive, but not cop between unless you flip the switch when the system asks for a disk change). I also have a Satandisk set up on it, for the emulated hard drive. It came with 1mb RAM in it, but I do have another set of 4 1mb simms on the way for it. As of right now, I'm about 50/50 on selling this one, and just keeping the MegaSTE, so if you're in the US you may be in luck, lol.
-
If it were me, I'd angle towards anything STE, as they are the later models, with features the ST/STFs don't have. They are also more easily upgraded memory wise (they use standard 30-pin simms). If you're in the US, no matter which you get it's not going to be cheap though. Depending on what you're intending to do as far as going online, it's quite possible with these machines. You can use either something like a NetUSBee (plugs into the cartridge port, and has usb and ethernet ports), or a WifiRS232 module (plugs into the RS232 port on the back, and emulates a Hayes-compatible modem, and connects to your wifi to 'dial' into telnet BBS systems). I've got both, but haven't tested the WifiRS232 module yet. If you're wanting ease of use, you'll probably want to replace the floppy drive with a Gotek drive, which use floppy images on a usb key, and emulates the 3.5" drive (you can also get versions of these that allows you to keep your 3.5" floppy, and swap it via a switch with a gotek). Far as programming goes, I'd probably also pick up either a Satandisk, or Ultrasatan drive, which is a SD card hard drive emulator. These will also facilitate moving stuff from your PC to your ST and back.. As for displays, I use a 19" NEC multisync monitor, with a ST2VGA adapter (I've got both Centuriontech's, and the one Exxos sells, both seem to work about the same). Any monitor that accepts the 15khz video signals should work with either one of those adapters in all 3 resolutions (2 color, one mono), and pretty much ANY monitor will work in High res mono with those adapters.

I think part of the problem is over here in the states, we didn't use much as far as EDO 30 pin. At any rate, Peter is correct. Long as the OP gets FPM memory he should be good to go. And for the record, during that time period I worked at several different PC shops, was a certified IBM/Compaq/HP/Okidata/Apple technician, and repaired and/or built 1000's of machines. Nobody around here was 'certified' on anything Atari back in the day aside from one tiny shop (they were a service center, but I suspect they were more a drop off point that shipped stuff back for repairs). Definitely been a long time, and for me, that's knowledge that I haven't used in decades so it's all fuzzy like it is for most of us, lol. At any rate, how's the modified 1.62 testing going Peter?
-
I don't ever remember using any, but like I said that's been a VERY long time ago, lol. I've built 1000's of PC clones since the early 90's so I'm not surprised I didn't remember them, lol. Interesting thing is looking up the actual chips on a couple 30 pin memory modules listed as EDO, some say they are fast page, some say fast page with edo so it gets kind of confusing, lol. I know by the time we were using anything at the place I worked back then that was listed as EDO, modules had gone from 30 pin simms to 72-pin simms.
