I'm Getting My First C64, And I Have Questions
ToddL replied to DistantStar001's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Does the power LED light up? If not, I think that indicates a problem with the switch or power supply rather than a problem with the ICs. -
https://thejoystickshop.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3 Looks like they are sold out.

I can confirm that 2600-daptor II works on Nexus Player Android TV. I use original joysticks on 2600.emu (and emulators for other consoles) but the paddles don't work in 2600.emu. For RetroArch, you'll need a controller with multiple buttons. And then I'm not sure if Stella through Android RetroArch will support Paddles. In RetroPie, I've read that lr-Stella does not support paddles but standalone Stella does.

Can you play Master System and Game Gear roms from the SD card in addition to Genesis roms? -
The full size version with a working keyboard is still coming in 2018, right?

An Atari trackball with a 2600-daptor II works well in Mame (although a mouse or modern trackball also works). I don't think paddles or a driving controller will work well for Pole Position in Mame, but I haven't personally tried. See below -- although the Pole Position wheel is larger on the arcade machine, I believe it works the same way as a spinner. From: http://2600-daptor.com/2600-daptor.htm: The driving and paddle controllers do *NOT* work for "spinner" games like Arkanoid or Tempest. -
Are these units shipping with the same joystick that broke for Metal Jesus or a new & improved joystick?
-
I assume both buttons do the same thing so you can play with either hand. Many of the popular joysticks from the 1980s had two buttons for this reason.

It's compatible with joysticks (and paddles) from the 1970s/1980s/1990s. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/266544-retron-77/?p=4025220

I would think the product would be more profitable for Hyperkin if they include an SD card slot as they could sell it at a higher price and/or sell more units.

I actually ordered the Edladdin All Play a couple weeks ago but haven't received it yet. OP indicated it's not in his price range at the moment though.

What controller are you using now? I like the Mindscape Power Player joystick. It's 8-way but it has a short throw and I think works well for pac-man games. There is one joystick I'm aware of that is able to switch to 4-way. It's called the Kraft Mazemaster. I don't like it as well as the Power Player though. Here's a couple good resources on joysticks: http://www.ataricompendium.com/game_library/controllers/controllers.html https://www.atarimagazines.com/v7n8/joysticks.html Also are you are aware of the various pac-man plug & plays from Jakks Pacific? Most of these have 4-way joysticks and can be found cheap on eBay. I believe the Ms. Pac-Man version and the one shaped like Pac-Man have an 8-way joystick while the original Namco, Super Pac-Man, and the black Pac-Man have 4-way sticks.

I agree that Wii (and PS2) will look better on a CRT, but if you are going to use an LCD anyway then might as well go 16:9 (and put the TV in 4:3 with black side bars if needed for certain games).
-
Dell 2001FP and 2007FP monitors are 4:3 aspect ratio, 1600 x 1200 resolution, with DVI, VGA, S-Video, and Composite inputs. I bought one recently on eBay for a little over $20. Only 20 inches but I don't think I've seen bigger than that if you're looking for 4:3 LCDs. PS2 has many 16:9 games, and I believe all Wii games are 16:9 so why not just get a 16:9 TV? Regardless of 16:9 or 4:3, you probably want a TV with component inputs for PS2 and Wii.

deepthaw, Are you aware of this option? http://retrotink.com/ Haven't used it myself but looks a good option if you want to use a CRT TV. -

Thanks everyone! I cleaned the contacts on the ribbon but that didn't immediately help. With the computer turned on, if I pull or push on the ribbon, sometimes the LED will light up. But I can't get it to stay on consistently. I haven't taken apart the keyboard yet to check the other end but I suppose that's the next step.

I opened up my 800XL recently and after putting it back together the power LED no longer works (worked fine before opening it up). To my recollection, I did not remove any chips or connections while inside other than the keyboard ribbon. I was checking to see if the board has C56 and R57, and it has neither. I suspected the keyboard ribbon was not connected properly so I've tried re-connecting it tighter and then looser but neither helped. The computer seems to work fine other than the power LED, including every key on the keyboard. Did I forget to re-connect something? Did I accidentally damage something?

I was under the impression that you'd be able to switch between NTSC and PAL, but based on The 8-Bit Guy's video it seems like a PAL unit is being sold in Europe and a different NTSC unit will be sold in North America.
