I went with the black one, as I'm not a big fan of the design on the MM one. I tend to like just plain consoles. It seemed to me though that Nintendo kinda just rolled out this new revision without much press. I didn't even know there was a new model until a week ago when I looked into getting a 3DS. I kinda lucked out timing wise this being my first 3DS. I'm glad I waited and didn't get one last year when the price dropped on the XL.

It's been at least over 2 years. What's your fav?
slip81 replied to moycon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think you can still give an educated opinion only owning two. That said I voted and only own the 360 and Wii. I don't need to have a PS3 to know that none of the exclusives or Blu-Ray don't interest me at the moment. It's a nice system and had I wanted Blu-Ray I would have gotten it over the 360 since it is way more reliable, but as it stands the only two exclusive games that I can see myself playing are Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank, and those aren't worth $400 to me. I'm sure in another year or two though when the price is down to about $250 I'll pick one up. -
on the xbox side of things, the service is great, the only problem i have with the netflix side is that certain movies have expiration dates. i mean when you factor in both the monthly fees i'm paying roughly $30 for this feature, i should be able to watch any movie they have whenever i want.

Another vote for Fallout 3 here. Just picked it up the other day and I'm having a complete blast with it, which is a bit weird sinc eI never really got into Oblivion (or any western RPG for that matter), but the setting is just so damn awesome I can't get enough. I like the fact that it's a little more linear than ESIV, the main thing that really bothered me was that it was too easy to get overwhelmed with quests, not that there isn't a ton to do in this game, there is, but the quests seem to flow better, it seems like instead of there being tons of quick side missions everywhere the optional quests are just longer. I've yet to play Fable II, but I can't imagine it bests Fallout.

I don't know, I think Artlover is completely missing the point of this game. It's not supposed to be this grand epic sprawling shooter like Half Life or Bioshock. It's essentially a late 80's co-op shooter like Contra. To me the fun from this game (other than killing zombies of course) is to get online with some good peeps and try to not only unlock the achievements (sort of a "high score" mentality), but get through the game on expert as quick as possible loosing as little life as possible. I think if you're not playing it on expert, you're really not playing it, cause expert is less about how good of a shot you are and more about working together as a team to develop a winning strategy. Anybody halfway decent at games can run through Rambo style in easy or normal, but in expert you have to work together or you will die. Vs. is great too in that sense that you really have to use communication and teamwork to beat the other guys. I mean, would anybody here complain that Mega Man 2 is a bad game cause the levels are always the same as is the enemy placement? Or that it wasn't worth $50 when it came out because it could be beaten in under and hour after patterns were memorized? I think L4D is all about bringing gaming back to it's roots, like a good shump, it's the difficulty that keeps bringing us back, not the story or game length.

Was given Lego Indiana Jones and Guitar Hero World Tour, also got some gift cards which I used to get the double cymbal pack, and [will be getting today] Fallout 3.

The Director works on the fly as well, meaning if you're in a game getting your ass handed to you, they'll be less zombies, more ammo stacks/health items and the like. But if you're doing good, more hordes, tanks, specials and less health and ammo. The only times where you can be sure they'll be health/ammo are at the triggered even spots. I've had this game since day one an have been loving it. I'm Vulcan Cross on Live and I play advanced and expert.

Going Hi-def... In need of some help...
slip81 replied to hex65000's topic in Modern Console Discussion
that's true, you really can't see a difference between 720p and 1080p untill you get into the 50" range, so, if you're only going with 32" at the most, go 720p, no reason to pay extra for something you really won't utilize. Also, like others have said, if you have the money and space, get yourself [or keep your] CRT for the classic stuff, it looks way better. Classic systems really don't look that hot on LDC displays, well, not compared to a CRT anyway. Though doing things like setting the tv to 4:3 while playing will help, you'll then have to deal with ugly sidebars. -
Does frustration with a game ever make you stop playing?
slip81 replied to DracIsBack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I got so mad at the first jak and daxter that I snapped the disc, It was on the last section before you fight hte end boss and the stupid camera made it impossible for me to compete a jumping puzzle. After days of trying I finally just stormed the PS2, tipped the disc out and broke it into bits. San Andreas' flying school also made me squeeze a remote so hard that it cracked. That's it though, I've dialed down my anger so I don't destroy any more things. Now when I get mad I just put the game down and go back to it later, eventually I always win. -
yeah, I got mine from BB, heres the LINK Mine is the XBR970, the 60 is better because I *think* it has the super fine picture tube which has a vertical line resolution of 1440. Those are really nice from what I hear, but they've been discontinued for a while so finding one might prove difficult.
-
this is what I game on: Sony 34" trinitron xbr crt hdtv (whew..acronyms). I'm in the camp that thinks tubes are sill superior in quality and picture, unless you're dealing with super high end flat panels. it's a big ol' heavy bitch, but the PQ is amazing.

Please Boycott EBGames and Gamestop for Zelda rip-off!
slip81 replied to MetalSlime23's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I wouldn't worry about not being able to find the GCN version. the phrase "rare Zelda" is kind of an oxymoron. After all it's in Nintendo's best interest to make enough of them, they can't cost $50 to produce since they're last generation, and they know the more they make, the more money they get. I mean if you can still walk into almost any EB/GS and find a copy of the "limited" GCN promo disk with the older Zelda's on it, you'll be able to find Twilight Princess. You may still have to pay $44.95 for it at EB two years down the road, but it'll be there. -
The $64K Question: DS or DSlite?
slip81 replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yeah, get the Lite, if only for the far superior screen. Honestly it's a night and day type difference. After using the Lite for so long it's hard for me to play on the Fat just because of the darker screen. Though if you get a Fat you'll obviously adjust, because I got the Fat before the Lite and enjoyed many a game on it. -
I got it for my birthday and I love it a bunch. It's a lot like the original, which to me is a great thing because I was a huge fan of taht game. If you liked the original, or any of the other Nintendo DS platformers you'll dig this one as well.
-
I would recommend either Trauma Center or Beat Em and Eat Em 2003: Special Scat Edition . Either one should be a hit. Ewww, gross. Why would anyone want to play a game about trauma?

What's up with GameSpot's reviews of the old emulated games?
slip81 replied to Room 34's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
places shouldn't even bother reviewing these older emulated games. 99% of the time a review already exsists for the original, why isn't that enough? Do they expect straight ports like Contra and Zelda to magically play better and have enhanced graphics just because they're on next gen hardware? -
Thanks for the info. It really won't play offline? That's freakin' terrible. Nope, it won't. Uses a rather abusive piece of copy-protection that forces it to call home. It's ironic how copy protection like this winds up fueling piracy. Why pay $50 for something that will fuck your system up and run iffy when you can download a fixed version for free? I THINK there's a cracked HL2, but I'm not sure. If you get Doom 3, make sure you download the "duct-tape" mod before you run it. The mod adds a flashlight to all your guns, making it possible to see what you're shooting at. Out of the box, Doom 3 requires you to choose a flashlight OR a gun, so you can't see and shoot at the same time. But that's half the fun Anyway I've enjoyed the Brothers in Arms series, and there's also Test Drive Unlimited (though you kinda need to always be online) the new Need for Speed, Civ IV, Age of Empires III, and though it's an oldie, Warcraft III is a great game.

Who's pre-ordering CastleVanie Portrait of Ruin DS?
slip81 replied to King_Salamon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I wouldn't get too nervous, maybe every store is doing it differently. When I PO'ed mine the guy told me they wouldn't be giving them out until you picked up the game, and that they were limited. So I pre-ordered mine and was number 10. I work in the mall, so I'll be able to get there first thing, I just hope I can get it at 5pm when I get off work instead of having to wait till 7 like usual. -
Well I got my add-on the other day, and while I haven't watched Batman Begins, I haven't noticed any lag with either King Kong or Corpse Bride. The more I keep reading about it, the more it seems to be something that's very hard to pick up on.
-
I did pretty much the same thing you did, only I got my 360 in August wit hthe plan to get a Wii at launch. Now that it's out I really want to try it, but the lack of any games I want will prevent me from buying it untill June at the earliest when the games I want come out like MP3, Super Smash Bros, Mario Glaxy. Let us all know how the HD-DVD drive fares as well. I've read some pretty bad things about the sound.
-
It seems that sound lagging is being reported by quite a bit of the folk over at the AVS Forums when using the new 360 HD-DVD drive for HD movies. So far it seems that the problem is most prominent in Batman Begins with TrueHD sound, but it has also been reported for DD and DD+ using both analog (red and white) and optical connections. I was thinking about picking this drive up around Christmas but definitely won't if the sound is all wonky. Can anyone here confirm this, or are the AVS people being too picky?

I don't know, I'm seeing lots of near ending bids for about $400 on ebay right now (11:46am EST). So you could most likely sell it for a profit it you put it up today.

It's their third party & I'll cry if I want to
slip81 replied to Jess Ragan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
And that makes them any worse at it because? Yeah I was about to say the same thing. Sony and Microsoft both made great systems. The PS1/2 were incredibly influential in pushing the whole industry forward, and it looks like the 360 is picking up where the PS2 left off by trying to offer the most well rounded experience. I mean only a year after the 360's release we have a few titles in just about every genre, killer exclusives, a strong online community, and more of everything on the way. I really doubt the PS3 will be the thing to push Sony out of the market, but if they stay on the current track they'll definitely be delegated to third place. And if the PS4 follows the same path as the PS3, then Sony might have to throw in the towel. But I mean, that's doubtful, companies aren't that stupid. The last generation MS and Nintendo seemed to be in the same place that Sony is in right now and they smartened up. -
oh back-ups. for a second i though i read backwards, as in compatibility, i got a little excited for a moment.

Yeah I didn't like the price for Lumines Live so I didn't buy it.
