One thing I was surprised about, I did a copy from "A" drive and I want to copy all the files and put them on my floppy drive from gotek(A) , to my floppy, which is B Drive. And the system copied it in one pass. I'm so used to the ti copying it in increments. That's nice

The COPY * B:\ (or other device letter) command will copy as many files into available free memory before it starts writing those files out to the secondary device.

  2. OK, be careful with the editor.  Use the LL for LoadL and SL for SaveL option when dealing with DIS/VAR 80 files.

If I recall correctly, the option SA (SAve) and LO (LOad) behave a bit differently and there was some kind of behavior difference if you used the SA and LO options with MyWord or with TI-Writer/FWEB.

  3. That's with Classic 99.  I'm not sure if Classic 99 supports double density, so that "may" be the issue on that end of things.  I'm guessing it does since it appears to be reading the disk, but need to confirm.

Do you have any images your Gotek drive uses that is recognized on the Geneve?  I think that is your intent.

And, just to make sure you are aware, QDE in that last image is a MDOS file that would be executed directly from the MDOS prompt at whatever drive letter the DSK image is residing.

Before copying files, see you can view any of the DIS/VAR 80 files on that disk (input disk).  Not sure if it is the letter T or V to display the file.  Then, do a directory on the output disk by itself and see if you get errors.  Trying to isolate what is and is not working here.

I haven't tried that, but what I did was.

On the laptop, classic 99, map dsk7 to location+QDE.dsk

On laptop, classic 99, map dsk8 to

    GOTEK USB stick, DSK045.

    Using classic 99, started DM2K

Directory of dsk7. Like 13 files showed

    Directory of dsk8, empty

I selected all files on dsk7 pressed fctn6, copy to dsk8, error...

    So that doesn't work..

I did use TDIR to copy the file to the usb stick from the laptop, it copied ok, but Geneve didn't like the file, with error..as I tried dir.

I don´t know if this is interesting, but I found another info from Paolo´s repository:

    Myarc 512K Bugs.pdf 17.66 kB · 3 downloads

And just the MOD, just to have it here on AA:

    Myarc512K-MODIF.pdf 58.75 kB · 3 downloads

    And the original manual:

    Myarc Memory Expansion Card.pdf 10.9 MB · 3 downloads

This looks like the instructions I used to modify my Myarc 512K card last year.

  6. Forgot to add.........

If you are running low on ink toner, go over to the fireplace with your coal bucket and rattle the flue for a bit to collect some fine grade A dust to refill the toner box for the black toner.  If your Gutenberg press is a color printer, cut the head off a chicken for the red toner and collect the blood and dry.  The blue and yellow are a bit harder to come by, unless you have a newborn calf and can collect his first discharge and dry.  It's generally a pasty yellow.

Now, the blue, that is indeed harder to come by unless your neighbor is a University of Kentucky fan and he has an ole beater truck painted blue.  If an old truck, he probably wouldn't miss the paint.

Yeah, I know.  I had more than a few minutes on my hands now.  I've got all my instruments up and running in the lab, and now its going to be 24 hours before I have results from all the samples I can give management.

Thank you. But already have TIPi and the controller has the 40/80/80 mod. So yay.

I've got to read the manual. I was supposed to print it but don't have paper, so my and my son went to the store, 35 freaking miles away, then he decided he needs clothes, so I got so side tracked, I forgot paper...duh

CVS, Walgreens, Wally-World all are likely to have paper if you aren't close to an Office Depot, etc.

Now, if you are in the boonies, then find a nice pine tree that has been down, grind it up with your mulcher or use your chainsaw and collect the cuttings.  The finer the pulp, the better.  Make a slurry in the cattle trough with the cuttings, then pull a window frame from the chicken coup.  Preferably, the window should have glass panes about 8.5" x 11" for the paper mold.

After you have poured a thin slurry over the individual glass planes and it has time to dry over the wood burning stove, take that old washing machine with the two rollers on top that squeezes out water, to give you a nice flat press of the sheets.  Spread each sheet out in the barn loft and let dry.

Let us know how it goes with the Gutenberg press printer when you start printing.

  8. Just to let folks know, I am about to release an update to Myarc's Advanced Basic Manual for the Geneve.  Jim Uzzell had created separate RTF files to update 90+ pages in the 260+ page manual.  I've now got them all incorporated into an ABasic V4.05 manual.  Someone else had created a very high resolution PDF scan of the original manual that I was then able to take and convert to a clean Word document before I started incorporating Jim's updates.

I just need to spend a few minutes going over the final formatting to make sure things line up pretty, and then I will make the document available.

There are also various versions of ABasic floating around in the V4.0x series, and the latest is V4.05 which fixed a CALL LINK issue @InsaneMultitasker fixed several years ago.  Not sure how many people have that version.

Anyways, in the next day or two, I hope to release that update.

  9. Got a few minutes this morning.  You are running an old version of EXEC.

As far as moving files to a Gotek DSK image, TIDIR is the tool to do that moving of files around.  When I was using my Lotharek drive, it was a straight sector dump DSK image.

I'm not sure if the Gotek DSK images are straight sector dumps, or if it is using another format.  Make sure you are using a size on your Geneve that is compatible with the disk controller in use.  In other words, don't use a 360K DSK image if  your controller only supports DS/SD (180K).

Another way to get things setup, was that I used MESS/MAME to create my disk images, copying necessary files from a MAME HD image to the DSK image MAME was using, then copied/renamed that DSK image to something I wanted on my Lotharek drive.

If you haven't done so already, I would tell you to get a TIPI card and PI for your Geneve.  Once the latest MDOS is released, moving files around will be so much easier to get things up and running on the Geneve when you can drag and drop to a network share.

hmmmmm now where you ask, yesterday I stumbled about that. I did not see the ramdisk with the DU2K-utulity,

while looking for the HFDC´s DSRs. Is this normal ?

I slightly remember that there was shown an >1401 while formatting days ago,

but ALSO remember the >1400 at some other situation.... (maybe)

I will crush the ramdisk tonight (logically) :) and will try again to see what is shown, with FORM3MEG and then finally with FORM123...

On the Geneve, there will not be a DSR on the card for the ramdisk as the DSR is part of the Geneve Master DSR.

Make sure when you use DU2K, it is with ROMPAGE ON.

  11. No, you need TIMODE in your AUTOEXEC file.

Then at the MDOS prompt, type GPL<enter>

EXEC is to run EA5 programs from the MDOS prompt.  It doesn't work for the GPL interpreter as it is a MDOS program emulating the 4A.

  12. Remap 8N assigns device N to DSK8.  It does not assign drive letter N to DSK8.

To assign DSK8 to a drive letter, do the following in AUTOEXEC or at the prompt.  In AUTOEXEC for it to be assigned during each boot cycle

    ASSIGN F=DSK8:

    here, you can then do:

    DIR F:\

and will get a directory of DSK8.

Just a FYI, the issue Tim identified is not specific to GenPROG Link as I have been able to observe the same behavior in another program and requires a specific set of circumstances to duplicate.

I believe I found a solution and just sent Tim what believe is the fix.  Very obscure bug accessing routines in the CLI from another program, which very few people use.

    2/8 weekend update:

    7. Spent too long tracking random corruption while working in the new OS.  Finally reproduced the steps needed to generate the errors and lockups; it all seems to have been caused by executing an MDOS COPY command from within the Genprog LINK program.  MDOS 2.21 and MDOS 6.50 exhibit the same problem with the LINK program.  Test results sent to Beery for confirmation; crossing fingers in the meantime.

Just a FYI, the issue Tim identified is not specific to GenPROG Link as I have been able to observe the same behavior in another program and requires a specific set of circumstances to duplicate.
