Same symptoms I had, except I went back with a the Myarc FDC which is not to be confused with the Myarc HFDC. The FDC formatted the image fine while the HFDC would not. Beery

The 17 sectors/track is likely for 512 byte sectors. I would enter 32 sectors per track. As far as precompensation and interlace, I would use whatever the defaults recommend. Mike Maksimik did write a program for the Geneve that would allow accessing 34 sectors per track to get a bit more information out of a hard drive, but I would keep it at 32 sectors/track. Beery

It took a while to verify because of your interleave/interlace set at 1. Needs to be around a setting of 4 to cut down on the number of revolutions the disk would need to make. The only time I would ever use an interlace of 1 on a Geneve would be if I was booting from floppy and had a skew setting of something like 3. In that one and only use, you are loading MDOS as fast as the disk turns. Once you get the overhead of MDOS, then it can no longer read in a disk that fast. Beery

Well, that disk is on its way to Jonathan so maybe late this weekend he will have the disk. I did go digging into MDOS looking at the HFDC format routine. From what I can tell, it actually uses code on the HFDC eprom itself, rather than separate code. So, it should not matter whether the disk is formatted from MDOS on a Geneve, or on a TI-99/4A. They should be the same. Beery

Information on the Geneve's Gate Array
9640News replied to AwkwardPotato's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
It dropped some kind of wait states on the video, however, one had to be careful with a Memex system as if the count were dropped too low, things would mess up. If I am not mistaken, there were separate values optimized for both read and write. Seems like my Geneve from the 90's was used as one of the test systems to get the right number of states. Not sure if that work was done at a Lima show, or a Fest West show. Beery -
OK, got time tonight and I have added to the webpage at http://9640News.ddns.net:8080/the links on the webpage to telnet from the webpage to 9640 News, Fusion, and the Heatwave BBS's. Beery

I've got a Myarc HFDC diskette on its way to John today for him to do his Kyroflux thing if something does not happen sooner. Beery

My condolences Omega. May your father rest in peace. Beery

I tried a number of options. To my knowledge, and I can not swear to it, I thought I picked a DS/DD image and formatted it as DS/DD. If it is an issue with the bitrate, then how would the Myarc FDC work with formatting the image while formatting the same image with the Myarc HFDC not? Beery
-
On the first page of this thread, I posted a file, DSDD.HFE, that contains my attempt at formatting. I am using a SDHC Class 4 SD card, 16 gb I was formatting with the Myarc HFDC.

That was the same error message I was receiving when trying to format an image with the Myarc HFDC on the Geneve. No problem with a regular Myarc FDC, just the HFDC. Beery

Thanks everyone for the items sent thus far. I got Alan's Windows 10 system in hand along with a UPS, Greg's monitor, and Tim's envelope. I'll be setting up MAME for John on the Windows 10 computer and getting it loaded with a bunch of goodies for him. Thanks again people. Beery

Order placed.

CHI Friday - Companion gathering to Chicago TI World Faire
9640News replied to OLD CS1's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Alan, Not able to commit at this point in time. More than likely, it will be sometime in October before I can commit. I'm really wanting to make it up there, but I have to see what my deer hunting options are first. Beery -
This is NOT my idea, but I like it! -- (TIPI Game Scores)
9640News replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Just a thought about the cheating aspect and storing scores. I saw where Matt indicated he was storing something a session ID variable. That variable can be used as an encryption code for encrypting the score. Then, on the myti99.com server side of things, it validates the high score. Even with something as simple as what I just mentioned, it would take a bit more effort to cheat with less likely in assembly. In basic even with object loadable assembly code for the transfer, it could still be easily defeated. I could see a program run that requests from the server a key that is stored "magically" somewhere that is used to decrypt the assembly object code used for the save/transfer routine during runtime. This key is valid across all games/apps that would desire to post their scores. Then, when a score is desired to be posted, the session ID is used to encrypt the score with the save/transfer routine and the game name. On the server side, I am guessing a cron job needs to run with enough frequency to check for any posted scores. If a game has the potential of being played, and a new high score desired to be posted within minutes of a previous high score, then the cron job would need to run to capture both scores. I've got one game on my bbs where scores are posted to a message group shared across the bbs network. You can "read" the encrypted score, but nothing is legible. When the door game is loaded, it looks at the message base for any new messages that arrived and builds the high score list on its own. That is not an option I see possible with the TI setups. Anyways, just food for thought. -
Yes, I have plenty of space to bring it back. No issues with the public checking things out to learn about the sport. Last night, I picked up a large box of food that was available that I will be taking to our TI'er in need. Most of what I have access to now is carrots, potatoes, onions by the 1000+ lb quantities that have to move before they go bad. I will get John enough fresh veggies to hold him when I go over at the end of the month. As he doesn't have refrigeration capacity, fresh stuff will be somewhat limited. Right now, I have 2 x 1 gallon cans of refried beans. John chuckled at that one when I told him about it. I've also got about a 30 lb box that contains beanie weanies, nuts, and some other food prepackaged in 28 meals. This just happened to be what needed to move this week. Over the next few weeks, I should be getting more canned goods as I stockpile the items. Beery

I am leaving the Louisville, KY area late Wednesday (tomorrow) and driving throughout the night. I'll be arriving sometime before noon Thursday and will be setting everything up (tent, paramotor, etc). Flying is anytime Thursday through Sunday, but predominantly the first 2 hours of the morning and last 2 of the evening. Details of the event are at https://www.badappleshodgesfieldflyin.com/ . Winds need to generally be under 10 mph. Anything over 12 mph, and most pilots, myself included, will stay grounded for safety reasons. No rain until Sunday in the forecast. Myself, I will begin packing up Sunday morning for the 600 mile drive back home. Anytime outside of the flying window I described, people are generally doing any maintenance, chilling out, eating, napping, or riding minibikes or other carts around. Pretty laid back. Beery

428 Neil Hodges Road in Andersonville, GA. There is a large Fly-In down there. If you are in the area, feel free to come and check it out. Kids and family should enjoy watching, so bring a lawn chair. Flying typically occurs first 2 hours of the morning, and last 2 of the evening. Barring any problems, that will be when I am in the air. The rest of the day will be chatting with other people. If you do come out, I have a silver Silverado, and a red 5x8 enclosed trailer with TXWingNuts on one side. At least half the people should know me and can point you towards where I would be. My phone is 713-204-7752. Beery

Glad to hear a confirmation. As luck would have it, AT&T's internet connection at my home went down last night. Service tech is due out today and I had to have my wife deal with the guy while I am at work. Fingers crossed it is working when I get home. Otherwise, she will be an unhappy camper while I am gone Wednesday through Sunday down below Atlanta. I've got a feeling some new cable will need to be buried. Whether that is up to the house, or coming down the road. Maybe that will resolve some intermittent outages I have experienced since December. Beery

I've got a TI-99/4A formatted Myarc HFDC diskette, but not Kyroflux. I can mail the diskette to someone if they can do the next step. Beery

I think he should be more than happy with that. I will set him up with MAME with what I have on my system. I will need to determine how Windows 10 handles a dial-up internet connection to make sure no other software is needed. I'll also give him my USB modem. Beery

Just a FYI, I will be going out of town Wednesday PM and will not be back online until the following Monday when I leave. Going to have fun south of Atlanta at a Fly-In.

I have already tried every combination possible with the dip switches. That leaves me with nothing left to try. Beery

OK, will do when I get home tonight. To my knowledge, I do not believe CYA was used. However, I will check SETDSK and REMAP to see what my settings are. I did check my Autoexec to make sure I did not have anything in it. Beery

Michael, I'm not sure what is going on. I can format with MDOS a Lotharek image with a Myarc FDC. When I pull the FDC, and connect it to the Myarc HFDC, I always get an error. Not sure what to do. Beery
