Oh yes, I have Atari Anniversary Advance for the GBA. It rocks! But it would be nice for Infogrames to put out Atari Anthology on the GBA for the 2600 games (imagine a portable Solaris), and some of the coin-op games that weren't in the GBA collection like Millipede, Liberator, Lunar Lander, Major Havoc, and Red Baron.

Trading games at EB: Don't want to tell you how much?!?
Jamcat replied to Dones's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Reminds me back in the old days buying used NES/Genesis games from FuncoLand (GameStop) before I got a computer. Talk about being raped on used game prices. But now with a computer, all I have to say is thank goodness for ROMS and emulation. Once I found I could download ANY NES/Genesis game I wanted for free from the internet, I said to hell with FuncoLand! -
Over all, Atari Anthology is pretty good except for the glitch in the arcade version of Millipede that ruins the gameplay. Sometime the Millipede would not come out, and only a single bee would keep dropping down the screen. The only way to get the Millipede is to let yourself get killed by a bee or spider so that the screen would reset itself. Best game in the collection is Liberator. The 2600 games are spot on. I do like how they made use of the PS2 gamepad for games like Radar Lock and Star Raiders. I just wish they had included Solaris, Othello, Secret Quest, and Dark Chambers in with the 2600 games. Solaris is, in my opinion, the BEST 2600 GAME EVER MADE. Though the audio in some of the coin-op games is a little off. I will say though, as far as the arcade games go, I find the emulation of them is BETTER on the PS1 version (Atari Anniversary Redux) than it is on the PS2 verion. So I'll play the PS2 version for Millipede, Libetator, and Major Havoc, but for the rest of the games I'll play the PS1 versions. It's funny. They include a oldie like Pong, but yet don't include the coin-op versions of Night Driver or Stunt Cycle. Now if Infogrames came out with a Stunt Cycle plug and play game, I would buy that! Now if only Infogrames would make Atari Anthology for the GBA.

Man, places like Game Stop, EB, and Game Crazy RAPE you on trade-ins! They give you next next to nothing, then turn around and sell the stuff for a little more than half the original price of the game. You're better off selling the stuff on eBay. -
Flashback unit on sale at Target for $27.77
Jamcat replied to Rob Mitchell's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't know why people bother with the Flashback. You're better off getting the Atari Anthology collection for the PS2 or Xbox instead. It's just too bad that disc doesn't have Solaris, Secret Quest, Othello, and Dark Chambers. -

"Dare I ask what the cream is?" I'll leave that to your imagination. If not, watch a Ron Jeremy movie and you'll see lots of cream being thrown around. -
Interesting, if a tad old, article on gangster gaming. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6409148/ It's just sad that they make games that glorify this gang crap. In my opinion, gang bangers are nothing but sheep. If I had my way, I'd take all the gang banging idiots, put them in a football stadium, let the rival ones kill each other, then have police kill any remaining survivors.

But just think of Mario dressed with a do rag, dark sungalsses, a white tank top, and baggy pants. Along with a gold tooth, a massive gold chain, rings on every finger. And to top it off, grabbing his crotch and flashing a gang sign. And Nintendo can get Snoop Dogg to do voice for Mario. Can you just imagine Mario saying something like " Yo G, Fashizzle My Nizzle!" Nintendo can make it for the GBA and call it Super Ghetto Bros. Advance. -
Xbox2 not back-compatible? New Xbox Price lowered to $129?
Jamcat replied to Mock's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Hehehe. Speaking of system design, when they redesigned the PS2, I wish they would have designed it like Sega's CDX (Genesis & Sega CD in one) system. Would be so cool to have a game system as small & compact as a Discman CD player. But as long as Sony & Microsoft doesn't go the kiddie route like Nintendo with system design, then I'm happy. I mean really, the Gamecube screams PLAYSKOOL TOY instead of being a cool looking electronics device. -

Hahaha, pray your old model PS2 doesn't break down, or you'll have to get a slim PS2 without the motorized disc tray. But seriously, too hard to get games in and out of a PlayStation? That's crazy. You're just being a lazy gamer. -

Now if only Nintendo would "Ghetto-ize" the Mario games. It would be amusing to see a "thug" Mario. We can have: "Grand Theft Mario Kart: Candy Land" or "Super Mario Gang Bang Bros. : Peaches & Cream" The Peaches is for Princess Peach. -

Still say porn star Ron Jeremy makes the perfect Mario. http://www.foulmag.com/images/image_77.jpg -

"It's actually a switch in the cart slot that toggles between GBA and GBC mode. That's why GBA carts have grooves cut in the back, so they don't trip the switch." I wonder if one were to cut out notches on the sides of GB/GBC games if the DS would read them then. Of course I don't have a DS or any spare GB/GBC carts to try this out. -
Another new hack is up. This time it's a vector take on Joust. http://jims_digital_domain.tripod.com/dwnloads.htm The only thing I wasn't able to change into single lines were the platforms. Couldn't figure it out. I could make them invisible, but that was about it. So just the characters, score digits, and title screen have been given the vector effect. I have one more amusing idea for a hack that I'm kicking around. Kinda hard coming up with new or different takes on hacks that haven't been done before. vecjoust.zip

When I played Metroid on the DS, it was on a demo stand at Best Buy. The control set up was forward, backward, and L & R strafe with the D-Pad. And look/aim with the touch pad. I found that control TOTALLY HORRIBLE. I hear some games offer alternative control setups, but even still, the DS doesn't grab me. The gimmicky touch pad and useless second screen aside, my main gripe with the DS is it not being able to play GB/GBC games. If a 3rd party company like Nyko or whoever makes a adapter to play GB/GBC games, then I may consider getting one. Some may suggest using a NES/GB/GBC emulator on the DS, but I don't feel like dicking around with those emulators or paying $100+ for GBA flash cards to dump ROMs on. -

"Besides, you'd really need two analog thumbsticks and extra buttons to have a handheld that excelled at first person stuff. " The D-Pad+Button control option still works. If you don't like "gay", then fine, I'll say the touch pad is a EXTREME POOR DESIGN CHOICE for game control in a handheld gaming system. Touch pads on PDA's for business apps and non-action games is fine. But not for a handheld game system with high action games. A analog nub or micro thumb track/rollerball would have been the better choice. As usual, Nintendo just wants to be different and do things their way. Again, I see the DS touchpad as a GIMMICK and NOT a innovative way to play games. -

Jamcat replied to Mock's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't know. If adding a Z80 chip or Z80 emulation to the DS would raise the cost of the DS by say $5 or $10 bucks, it would have been worth it. In my opinion, I think a micro thumb track/rollerball would have been perfect for 3D games like Metroid. It would be no different than the mouse look ability on PC FPS games. Sorry, but the touch pad is "gay". The touch pad is fine for slow puzzle, card, and board games. But I don't see touch pad/stylus control well suited to fast action 3D games like Metroid. Heck, you don't see 3D action games on PDA's do you? Nope. A touch pad/stylus just isn't a good control device for 3D games. -
Xbox2 not back-compatible? New Xbox Price lowered to $129?
Jamcat replied to Mock's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yes, the DS is really NOT for me. To me, a game like Feel The Magic is nothing but a video version of the old electric toy, Operation. BORING! And I hate the touch screen. Trying to play Metroid with the touch screen for aiming was a joke. I'll take the standard D-Pad+Button control over that stupid touch screen any day. Nintendo would have been better off going with a micro trackball or analog nub than using a touch screen. Why not nave put a Z80 in it? If they could make the DS play GBA games, why not go all the way to include ALL Game Boy games. You say "DS was not created as the GBA's replacement", then why should the DS play GBA games in the first place if it wasn't? I just hope the next Game Boy that does come out will play GB/GBC/GBA games. -

Heck, at a Coconuts music & video store downtown here in Chicago, I picked up Rollcage Stage 2 for $9.99, and Tall: Infinity for $4.99. Both for the PS1. -
And where are the toggle switches on the thing? How do you turn it on or off, select B&W or color, set difficulty, etc.? Went to the site and didn't even see the thing on the page. Me thinks it's just a hardware hoax.

Xbox2 not back-compatible? New Xbox Price lowered to $129?
Jamcat replied to Mock's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, the best thing about new systems coming out is that retailers then start cutting the prices on software for current consoles to get rid of it. That's the best time to buy games for a current system. It was great when the PS2 came out, and all the PS1 games were cut to $9.99 or even less. It will be great to be getting PS2 games for $9.99 as well when PS3 games start rolling in. NONE of today's games are worth paying full price for. But at $9.99, you can't go wrong even if the title is a dog. And at $9.99, I'd be willing to buy games I wouldn't normally buy at full price. -
Oh, I forgot to add, the Dalek version of Berzerk plays the same as the original as well. Don't see how you could have trouble playing them in Z26, since that is the same emulator I use. Though I am using a older version of Z26, not the current release. It could be possible some hacks don't work in the current release of Z26, but I don't know. The last time I tried a newer version of Z26, it ran a tad slower and the sound was really off tune. So I went back to the older version that worked fine, and have been using it ever since.

Glad you like the roos Stan Jr. The hopping roos sure beat the ugly running figures of the original. Interesting thing about that game is that the characters were not single sprites. Each character was made up of 2 sprites. The first top sprite for the dribble/throw animation, and the second bottom sprite for the running animation. At least the roos look more alive with movement then the stiffly animated human figures. I did like the touch of making the roos look up as they aim on a higher shot. Very cute.

The gameplay of the chicken hack is the same as the original RealSports Soccer. Each time you press the fire button without having the ball/egg, you will cycle through your 3 chickens. The chicken that is the lightest in color is the one under your control. If the chicken under your control has the ball/egg, pressing the fire button will make the chicken kick the ball/egg.

Who cares! Today's video games have already gone to hell. Nothing but the same old me-too re-hashed fighting, racing, RPG, and FPS games. The industry IS headed for another crash, and I can't wait for it to happen. And I hope when the second crash does happen, the industry STAYS DEAD this time.
