I would have considered buying it but it was just too expensive for me. I would prefer buying one here in the USA. Also, I would hate to buy one only to find out it didn't have the games that I wanted to play. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.

Nintendo to re-unveil the Wii U at E3 2012
eggomania replied to Animan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think I would prefer the Wii U if it was a pure handheld console that had the graphic capability of a home console. I know that Wii U is designed to be played either way but I would assume that you would still need to have it set up to your TV. Also, can it be taken outside the home like a handheld? I'm curious is to what this system will really be like whenever it comes out. I also would like to see a different name for it. I feel pretty confident that it will be called something else when it does come out. -
I would love to have a cabinet this size since it would not take up much room. My problem is that I am not one of those people who are good at putting things together and I am also not very good at downloading ROMS for MAME. Some people have no problem doing this stuff; I am not one of those people. If I could find one to buy outright that would be nice but all the ones I have seen are either really expensive or only cover a handful of games. There must be one out there that is not so expensive. Hopefully I'll find it! Your cabinet looks really nice. I bet a lot of time to get all of the ROMS needed for each system.

recently bought a 3DS (some thoughts)
eggomania replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm planning on getting a 3DS by Christmas time. I'm looking forward to the new Super Mario Land and Mario Kart 7. Hopefully Paper Mario will come out next year. I do like Nintendo, so I try to support this company by buying their products. I was mostly happy with all of their systems that I have. I do think that apps will be the future of gaming, although I hope that I am wrong. There are some good games in the Apple apps store. I recommend the games made by Llamasoft such as Goatup, Minotron (a game similar to Robotron 2084) and Minotaur Rescue (sort of like the 2600 version of Asteriods but more fun). But I do find many apps to be only OK. I enjoy owning my own games and holding them in my hand - something you cannot do with an app. -
Nintendo projects first full-year loss in 30 years.

Hopefully Nintendo can get back on track. This company does seem to do well, go into a slump of some sort and then bounce back and do great. They are currently in a slump now. The question is...can they bounce back? I think Nintendo caused this themselves. They should of waited before releasing the 3DS, keeping the DS going (which was going strong, as game developers figured out how to use the DS in the best way). Also, a lack of great games for the 3DS is not helping matters. In June Nintendo announced some great games for the 3DS I was looking forward to playing but two of them - Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario - won't be coming out this year, and who knows when the latter comes out, if it comes out at all. If Nintendo would have great games ready when they announce them they might be making more money. -
I don't know a lot about Twin Galaxies but I always believed they were under staffed and neglected verifying scores. I used to keep in touch with a guy from Canada who was great at Black Dragon, Ghosts & Goblins, Bubble Bobble and Wonderboy. I think he broke the record on at least one of those games and he sent in the video of his playing. His scores were never verified. So they lost some credibility with me. I think Twin Galaxies should just focus on classic arcade games and let somebody else handle console games and computer games.

It would be nice to have a small arcade system that plays many of my favorite classic arcade games. But I don't think I can afford it. How much is it? If it was just a few hundred US dollars I would consider getting one, as it would be nice to play classic arcade games that won't take up a lot of room.

Thanks for the reply! I was considering getting that book but had heard of poor reviews that mentioned the photos in the book are of poor quality. But I think I'll order that book on Amazon, as I could overlook poor picture quality if the information is great.
-
Are there any book that list all of the arcade games from the the 1970's through the mid to late 80's? It seems that the books I have heard of only cover the more well known games and not lesser known ones. I'm looking for only games that were in the arcades. It would be nice if this book exists and that it even covers tips on how to play the game.

Thanks for that link for more games that can be played on an iCade. Too bad that none of them seem to interest me. It would be cool to play more classic games such as Pac-Man, Galaga, Berzerk, etc. I realize that it would require making a licensing deal with companies such as Midway, Stern, etc. But maybe one day it will happen.
-
I would consider getting an iCade if I ever get an iPad. The only thing is...I think I read somewhere that it only works for the app Atari's Greatest Hits. That app is nice but I would like to be able to play other arcade games with it. Most of the Atari 2600 games on that app are not that great, which just leaves you with a small amount of classic Atari arcade games. Plus, I think the iCade requires bluetooth and won't work on WiFi.

Honestly, i didn't even think about a MAME cabinet being illegal. I certainly don't want any arcade to get in trouble. I guess I was thinking because his games will be on free play that it would be OK, but I certainly would not risk doing that if it can cause trouble.
-
Too bad I live so far away. It would be great to visit this arcade one day. I wish you the greatest success! Will you have a MAME cabinet also set up for those who would like to play classic games that you don't have? It will give people a chance to play those games that are very difficult or impossible to find.

Arcade/MAME HSC Game Requests
eggomania replied to VectorGamer's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Sadly, I'm one of those people who seem to have a hard time getting MAME set up. I have a hard time getting ROMS to all be in the same file. I sure wish I had a computer geek on hand to help me out. If I ever do get MAME set up, it would be cool to see the following games: Moon Cresta Carnival Astro Blaster Frisky Tom Space Duel Make Trax Phoenix Swimmer Wonder Boy -
Massive Atari collection for iPhone launches tonight
eggomania replied to Flojomojo's topic in Atari 2600
I'm hoping that the developers of this app can find a way to make some deals with other companies such as Namco so that this app can have some better games. It would be nice to play some of the better Atari 2600 games since most of the games that the app has are not the cream of the crop. Also, it would be cool to see some more classic arcade games added. I realize that it would cost the developers a lot of money to secure the rights to games outside of Atari. It would be nice to at least see the classic arcade games from Exidy, which has allowed their games to be free on MAME. -
Believe me, I was suspicious and still am. These emulators cover a variety of systems such as Atari 2600, NES, etc. as well as MAME to play classic arcade games. I believe I am going to pass on this. I don't want to end up paying for something that may not even work. Also, I don't even know if just plugging in a joystick would allow you to play any of these games.
-
I saw on ebay something called "Complete Emulator Collection With Frontend MAME 142" and was curious about it. I tried to find more info about it on the Internet but didn't have any luck. According to the seller of this product (the seller is from England), all you would need is to plug the 320 GB HDD into your computer via a USB cable (which it comes with) and you can start playing the ROMS that it comes with. As someone who finds setting up MAME on my computer to be a bit complicated, this product sounds promising. However, I am a little suspicious of this. I would hate to buy this only to be dissapointed. Has anybody here heard of this? Is it the real deal or is it a scam? If it's true, can you really just play these ROMS straight from this device that you connect via USB?

Massive Atari collection for iPhone launches tonight
eggomania replied to Flojomojo's topic in Atari 2600
The latest version of the app seems to be working better, but it didn't save my games that I bought! I am able to download them again without having to pay (at least, I hope that's the case since I have already paid for them) but it will only allow me to download one at a time. Will I have to do this on every new version of the app? That is so annoying and is not fair to people who have already bought these games for the app. Is anybody else also having trouble with the latest release of the app? -

I recently bought this app along with all game packages for it. I knew there were poor reviews and I also knew that these games were not designed to be played on a touch screen. I have a iPod Touch, so I was expecting my experience with this app to be kind of a letdown. Yet, I did want to have a chance to play classic Atari games on it since I do not have an Atari VCS system. My feelings on the app is that I applaud everyone involved in making this app. It looks really nice. My problem with the app is what many other people have problems with...the controls. It plays OK on my 3rd Generation version but on my new 4th Generation it plays terribly. You would think the creators of this app would have made this app play nicely on the updated iPod Touch. But the joystick control on the later version is just horrible. I really hope that updated versions of the app will improve the controls. Again, it is an impressive app just for the look and the amount of games to be played. It would be much better if the controls improve and the creators can get non-Atari licensed games to be added so the quality of games can get better. -
It's a game from the 1970's but Circus used a trackball. The game was known as Circus Atari on the 2600. For a game from the 1970's I would consider it to be a good game.

I received my copy of the Collector's Edition yesterday. I played a little yesterday. From what I have played it is pretty impressive. So far I have not had a lot of problems with the camera, though it would have been nice if the camera positioned itself behind Mickey unless you wanted to rotate it somewhere else. The game looks really nice. It's apparant that a lot of work went into this game. Just the fact that a Disney game has gotten a lot of buzz is feat in itself, as many Disney games are a letdown. I'm curious if the rest of the game will be as cool as what I have played so far.

ATARI GREATEST HITS coming to Nintendo DS
eggomania replied to Rev's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I was looking forward to this game but after seeing the list of games that are on this compilation I'm not as excited. While it makes sense to leave out the Activision games, leaving out Space Invaders is a head scratcher. Sure, Space Invaders was not an Atari game in the arcades, but it was for the Atari 2600. It's probably some licensing policy but it's still kind of annoying. Also, why not include Millipede? It's a nice compilation but it's not amazing. -
This game does look nice. I was kind of hoping that the upcoming Donkey Kong game would be a 3D platformer, similar to the one that came out on the N64. They need to bring this franchise back. When Nintendo and Rare had their problems the Donkey Kong series was sidetracked. Hopefully this will be the re-birth of more great DK games.

I am really enjoying SMG2. Though similar to the original I find the follow-up to be more fun to play. The new power ups have been a great addition and having Yoshi in the game is really cool. It may be the best Mario game in years.

An impressive list of games you have! You have more than I did when I had my Atari 2600 (I had about 50 or so). Here are some games that you may want to consider getting: Galaxian Megamania Spider Man Phoenix Super Breakout I also agree that Demon Attack is a great game.
