  1. If you happen to see my thread about my search for an HDTV, you can read about how I ordered and expensive Samsung LCD that is now waiting to go back to Amazon. Just returned from Best Buy with a Panasonic plasma, TC-P42U2. The difference is amazing, standard def programming is actually watchable on this--it was terrible on the Samsung LCD. If you watch any old stuff at all, the LCD is probably not what you want. Also, the 46" was way too big for us, but I guess that's pretty subjective. I will say that football game were AMAZING on the Samsung. Really, really cool. But it just wasn't worth it to have everything else look crappy. This is only my opinion, but it will be a long time before I ever consider an LCD again.
  2. What kind of bock is it? I hear the Yuengling is good. The game might be kind of soggy by now, though.
  3. My local computer recycling place had bucketloads (seriously, they were in 5-gallon buckets) of these and other stripped hardware when I was there last. I can check for you next time I am in.
  4. This is a really good idea. For my part, my wife still thinks it is too big. We may be sending it back and getting a 40" instead. Do you get use to everything being even too clear? I am just having a lot of trouble adjusting to it and have been messing with the settings (not randomly, by looking at things like tweaktv and stuff) and I am just worried that we won't adapt. Talk about a first-world problem.
  5. I have up an just bought a widescreen, you can look at this thread for some info, though not very helpful regarding obtaining a CRT HDTV. The consoles, for the most part look terrible, but the NES is a trooper in game mode, just not light gun... definitely look for something in game mode. Mine is a Samsung, as is the CRT it replaced (the CRT now lives in my game room). http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/169219-technology-marches-on-the-search-for-an-hdtv/

Same here, you need carts, I got carts!
  7. Here's my blog entry on the subject from a flea market: Socrates Educational Video System with Hodge-Podge cartridge ($1) So... I noticed this one because it had a cart in it. And also a "mouse system." It looks kinda like a Wacom tablet for kids. In all my years of thrifting I've never seen one and was obviously curious. No power supply. The guy selling it says "$2 and it's all yours." I just started laughing. "My wife will kill me if I bring that home! There's no power supply!" And on and on like this, with they guy saying, no, no, you WANT this. You NEED this. And me walking away and saying I don't even have kids! and then he goes "why you got all those video games, then?!" because I had the stack of carts in my hand. It was just a total flea market moment. So I turn around and say "ok, will you take a dollar for it?" And we laughed and laughed and he took my dollar and now I have this monstrosity sitting in my game room. With no power supply or batteries. Why??!! I don't even know. Yikes. I think I sold it on here for shipping only... Just a kid's toy.
  8. Wow, great buy on the 2049er II. I still have not seen one of these in the wild; its a big hole in my collection. I had a similar thing happen when I lived in Boston. Guy had an ad up, and was in my neighborhood, but was asking $200. Big collection, I even went to check it out, but not worth it and the gentleman would not budge on price. Then I went to the used record store near my place a couple of days later and ran into Atari-seller guy coming out with a stack of vinyl under his arm--he had traded the Atari collection for store credit. I chatted up the owner of the store and walked out with a silver label Asteroids and a few other goodies for about the price of a CD! Fate.
  9. That's all like a foot-long of crazy on a six-inch bun, man.
  10. I just wish there were some more pictures...
  11. Funny how the flash hit just right... yes, that is FF VII on the end!
  12. Hit a yard sale this morning and snagged a bunch of PS1 and PS2 stuff, plus a Gameboy Advance for $30 total. A great deal! Phaxda's Blog -- So I was running this morning and...
  13. What a freaky-deaky morning I had today! Often on Saturday mornings I go running with my running club. Yes, to answer the immediate question, I am indeed in a running club! If I sat around all day playing games, I would be HUUUGE cause I eat like a madman. So I have to run to balance it, plus I get high on the endorphins. So this morning we went out on a group fun run to a trail in a relatively wealthy suburban area that is one of my favorite hunting grounds (I once found a pair of $1000 speakers at a Salvation Army around there), but I promised my wife I would not go to any thrift stores, etc. because things at my house have gotten ridiculous so far as stuff accumulating goes... then again, I have not rented a storage unit, so I guess it's not as bad as some people have it (or as good, rather, depending on your perspective). We went out and back on the trail, I wanted to do 5 miles so went out for 2.5 and coming back on the trail at around the 4.75-mile mark, my buddy looks off to the left and starts laughing. "Garage sale, 11 o'clock!" he says. This is funny because on the way out I had been relating my troubles with regard to garage sales and excess stock and angry wife and alla that on the way out. He clicks his watch off right away, and heads for the sale... and I did the same and reluctantly followed. To set the scene a little better, this is a house buried on a one-way that backs up to the trail. They did not have any signs up that I could see, but man did they have a lot of stuff. A couple and their kid, looked to be college-age. So right away I see a Playstation 1, and sitting next to it is a network adapter for a PS2. So right away, I am interested... Asked about the PS1 he says $5 and then says, "oh but that (meaning the adapter) goes with the other one" and took me over to show off a nice original PS2 and about 20 games, controllers, hookups, all that. I ask what he wants, and he says "$20." When I run, I don't take a lot of money with me (usually just a 5 and my ATM card for emergencies) and my buddy had nothing on him as well. So I asked the kid where the nearest ATM was (pretty close) and if he would hold the stuff and I'd come back in 5-10 minutes. No problem, we ran over to the ATM, I paid an extortionary $3 transaction fee, and ran back to the sale. I handed over the $40 I had just gotten out of the ATM and then saw a Gameboy Advance sitting there and asked how much for that, had one of those flip-up lights and 3 games, and the kids says "make it $30 even." Took my $10 in change, and my running buddy and I hoisted the boxes and jogged back to my car with them. $30 netted a great haul: PS2, all the hookups Network adapter 2 controllers 4 memory cards 24 games PS1, (no hookups) 2 controllers 4 memory cards Gameboy Advance, light 3 games Here are the games...
  14. ...and we're sold out again. I will keep this thread bookmarked in case this guy calls me again (unless Hoarders calls him first).
  15. Pay shipping and these can be yours: 4 Atari 410 cassette drives. They all work intermittently, but no guarantee on these finicky little bastards. In very good cosmetic shape, ready to have their SIO cable harvested if you're into that kinda thing. Can't bring myself to do it. Pioneer FT-1250 still for sale. 30 text label 2600 carts for $40 shipped, pic to come. NES console shell only with 4 controllers stashed inside, $20 shipped or BO.
  16. Picked up another one of these keyboards, now for sale for $10 plus actual shipping from ZIP 94610. Same guy gave me a call, cleaning out his basement again. I also now have a few 400/800/etc. EPROMs, boards, and unused cartridge shells that may well be of use to someone, but I am trying to decide on reasonable price for it all.
  17. BBSB is probably the most valued thing in my collection, made better by the fact I found it in the wild. Congrats on the complete collection--I remember the last cart I needed was Zenji of all things and looked everywhere for it at the right price and was very happy when it finally arrived. Good luck with some of the homebrews--they are a wicked pain to find!
  18. Fall Down is the best! One of my favorite games. And so far as Turbo is concerned (other poster), maybe Al is too polite to say so, but I have no problem going so. Are you KIDDING me? Do you know how hard people work on these things? Do you remember how much a 2600 game cost in 1984? Sheeeeeesh. It is a BARGAIN at that price and good fun to boot. I cannot believe people sometimes. Can't afford it, fine. Don't whine about it though, as it does no one any good. Congrats to everyone who worked on Turbo. It is AWESOME.
  19. I don't like emulators, I play on real hardware.
  20. I'm going to go with he's... ...a few cartridges short of a full Brain Game ...missing some ROMs from his Harmony ...lacking a few joystick pins ...a sprite devoid of pixels ...got a cartridge slot that needs a good cleaning... OK, I'm done.
  21. Hit the flea market for the first time in awhile today and came out pretty well for $40 total. The first $20 I dropped because it was one of those places that just had a tarp spread out on concrete and a bunch of Genesis stuff just ALL over the place. I asked about the games and she said 2 bucks apiece and I gave her my "you have got to be kidding look" and then saw the console with a 32X and a more games a row over, pointed that out and just offered a nice even $20 for everything that I could get my hands on in the pile (including some random cables that had no relevance). She took it. Everything works, so I will get my money back BUT the cable for the 32X is miss-ing. Always with those things. EDIT: Wife freaked out, all Sega stuff on eBay starting at 19.99 for the CD and console, with most of the games.... 99 cents for the 32X. See sig for eBay links, also taking offers... when I get stuff cheap I am apt to pass deals along... Did a lot of walking and then saw these two nifty cases sitting side-by-side. Guy wanted $15 for the Lynx and $10 for the Game Gear. Had another $20 ready to go and he accepted that for both. Honestly I just wanted the carrying cases the most. Shipping is killer on these things. The Game Gear one is the soft on outside, hard on inside one. My buddy had one a long time ago and I really liked it, been looking for one for a long time. This item came with a PowerBack and power adapter and a few games, nothing of note really. Unfortunately it has the usual capacitor problems, so now I have 3 of these in-house that I need to work on at some point... And this will sound silly, but I have never HAD a Lynx before. System, power supply, and car adapter included in this buy with the sweet case, but again, no dice on the system. Screen powers up, but shows nothing. Sigh. I did have lots of fun on a nice sunny day and I don't think I made out too bad at all. Just need to get my screwdriver game bits and soldering iron out and see what we can do.
  22. I also just get a blank screen (lit but no game) when I power up my Lynx. The battery trick does not work, so I am guessing this is another issue?
  23. Re-viewed King of Kong on Netflix Friday for my wife's benefit. She had some comments. On Billy Mitchell: "That guy is creepy..." On Brian Kuh: "Are you kidding me? The guy is the douchiest douche, and there's a lot to choose from here..." On Steve Wiebe's wife: "That woman is a saint." Overall, though, she really liked the movie, which was somewhat surprising.
