I have 7 Dreamcast VMUs and 3 Rumble Packs--POLL ADDED!
phaxda replied to phaxda's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Cool! I had never seen that before. Silly me, I thought I was the only VMU freak around. -
Many thanks, that really helps me out. I work in a place with no net access now and cell phones are prohibited, so the only time I will be able to check in during work hours is on my breaks and at lunch. I have no doubt these will go superfast and I want one!

I have 7 Dreamcast VMUs and 3 Rumble Packs--POLL ADDED!
phaxda replied to phaxda's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I love the standalone games--it's one of my favorite parts of them. Thanks to everyone who responded to the poll--I might make up more of these because they are kind of fun. -
I would hold them responsible for their shoddy packaging. Get a refund and make them promise to pack better!

I love my Jr. It is hooked up to my little 10" TV and I use it for game testing. Takes up so little room on the desk, it's just perfect as a test station. I actually just inadvertently won another one on eBay, so if anyone is looking for one, just let me know!

I know this is a silly topic, but I am feeling silly. Getting ready to sell a Dreamcast I yard-saled this morning and kind of automatically took the VMU out of the controller. I always do this because I think VMUs are cool so I never sell them. Just for fun I like to see the saves on them, what games people have played, etc. Plus some of the mini games are kind of fun, when I remember to keep batteries in them, that is. Hmmm, I have never played with the poll settings before and this seems like a nice random topic! Vote away! Poll is set to PUBLIC.

Do they have to be Atari brand? I still have labeless Parker Bros kicking around. I should have asked before I sent yor box out.

I guess I can have a serving of crow. Truth be told, I am still a bit skeptical. I have also worked in printing, however, and the close-ups really do show some things that would be tough to fake on a one-off. I also trust Al: for a non beer-drinker, he's a pretty good guy. Good luck with the auction, Tanman... and you should have said you were looking for more carts in the "Wanted" section. I or any number of people on here would probably give you better-than-eBay prices from non-smoking homes. Feel free to send me a PM if you are still looking.

Thanks for the LED mod link! I did not even know that was possible!

I kinda feel like Mulder--I want to believe... But the timing is kind of suspicious. I think you want to have this verified by a trustworthy person and I might even suggest waiting until after the April Fools timeframe for any auction. Maybe I am just cynical, but...

PM sent, monkeyman! I have received my refund and will see what the market will bear for the systems that survived. Definitely not one of my better deals, but hopefully a more educated seller. Because I was asked, here is the link to the seller, but again, I want to stress that he did right by me in the end and just made a mistake, as we all do from time to time. I am all about forgiveness and moving on. eBay Seller: greek-games

Ummm... wow. I will be sure to keep an eye out for this stuff in the future! Doesn't eBay hit you pretty hard on fees when you set a BIN in the hundreds of $$$?
-
I have a line on some more of these keyboards from the same guy (he used to do repairs) but he's upped his prices a bit. I am thinking it's not worth the drive, but if you are looking for one of these PM me and maybe we can work something out.

Er, that's a bad assumption. The belts often turn to mush, opened up and used or not. Time does terrible things to these recorders! The packaging may even be worth more that the actual equipment inside, depending on what level of crazy buyer you manage to find. To get $60 + shipping you will probably need for someone to go off their meds and embark on some kind of crazy Atari spending spree.

This one I just cannot figure out. My guess was the cart slot, but I have cleaned it thoroughly. What else could produce this garbled kind of output? Sucks because it is a nice system otherwise.

Well, I bought two items and they both had problems. First of all I had this Atari lot shipped to me with no padding at all and two systems were total losses: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/160352-just-another-ebay-shipping-rant/page__fromsearch__1 I also bought a power supply for my old PC (which is a Linux box now and my wife actually has the exact same machine as her desktop) and it arrived non-working with three CDs that I didn't ask for. Took me a while to figure it out and then I wrote this message: The seller promptly issued a refund, but I am still waiting for my other refund. Grrr. I think I need to take an eBay break! OK, OK, I did score one nice eBay deal. I have been looking for a 2600 Star Ship, boxed, for a long time. I was not insisting on gatefold, but since this one came along... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 250593728771 Arrived in immaculate condition.

Non-working 2600 consoles/interest check/offers
phaxda replied to phaxda's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
That should read "burnt out/mad" which is still the case. I am looking for $5 apiece plus shipping. You will never want for parts again. I have a nice big box ready for them; PM for further details. -
I wrote the seller and told him I had pictures available if he would like to see them. He will be issuing a partial refund. I will likely be leaving neutral feedback. The seller has been very communicative, immediately offered a refund after my first message (along with a promise to pack better), and admitted fault ("See I figured if the systems were packed tight they would be snug and fine, but that seemed not the case here. Its a misfire on my part."). He gets the fact that he didn't quite do this right or even close... Also, it probably shouldn't make a difference, but the buy was a very good deal to begin with and with a refund it's still a decent deal. The seller is also out a lot in shipping costs (and he paid for insurance, which is kind of a total WTF) so to push this any further is kind of pointless. I am just sorry that two consoles had to die in the process. Anyone interested, see my post in Marketplace re: busted systems. I've cooled down a bit from last night and I'm going to turn this into a positive by using these pictures on my eBay page as examples of what you can get from bad sellers as opposed to semiprofessionals such as myself when buying on eBay. I am also going to throw some business GameGavel's way--I'd really like to offer some nice well-packed system lots for a reasonable price as their audience grows and maybe make a little comparison chart. eBay: high fees and stuff boxed crappily like this: [these photos] GameGavel: low fees and good sellers [pic of one of my heavily padded boxes]. Or something like that.

Non-working 2600 consoles/interest check/offers
phaxda replied to phaxda's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Hey, They are mixed models. 2 vader, 3 4-switch woody, 3 6-switch woody, and just in, 2 sears sixers. I also have one empty shell. 3 have switch problems that my usual cleaning technique did not fix. A couple just do not power on at all. Two have sound issues. One has "scrambled" video. I am a very motivated seller right now--shipping is definitely a killer, but I am only looking in the $5-10 per system plus shipping if I can dump them all at once. I will strip parts that people need if asked to do so--I hate to kill machines, but just do not have the time for it and kind of bunt out/mad right now. p -
Yes, I bought another large Atari 2600 lot. The seller seemed like a stand-up guy, responded to my usual "please pack well" mail and was very communicative about when things were shipped etc. The lot was large enough to require two boxes. I got the first box yesterday with the games in it and one system, which was non-working. Minimal packing material used, but games are hearty and one of the systems was advertised as not working and I figured this was the one. Shrug, I can deal with that. Box #2 came today and when I picked it up I heard rattling, not a good sign. But I opened it up and saw some foam on top, so was a little more hopeful! Oh, but what's this? That's the only padding in the box? You got to be kidding me... let's pull the systems out and see what waits at the bottom... You can see the damage loose power supplies can do. Look close, you can see the shards of Atari plastic as well. Not to mention the other systems on top of this one--one of those was busted beyond repair (internal damage) as well. I am now up to TEN broken systems in my possession and I think it's time to quit buying for good. No one really gives a care about packing well, no matter how much they talk a good game and say "look at my feedback." I should have listened to the 2 or three negs this guy had but I thought I could get a good deal. WRONG. AGAIN. I am awaiting response from the seller. Not worth the time and trouble. God knows I love Atari stuff, but my rescue center is closed.

I don't blame the seller for putting a reserve on this. I would probably do the same, and definitely not reveal the amount. I am sure it will be met far before the auction is over. The game has been extremely well-publicized lately, the provenance is about as good as you're going to get,* and the seller seems like a nice normal person (a rarity on eBay these days). Best of luck with the sale! *Why yes, I do watch too much Antiques Roadshow.

Still looking for a Videoplexer! I will trade my boxed Game Brain and a first round draft pick for one.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
phaxda replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I shared my great finds last week, so I will also share my dismal finds this weekend. Lots of gas money, not much findin'. I got a nice vintage power switching pizza box thing (that drawer on the left is for your 3.5" Atari ST disks) and a Game Boy for $8 total. Passed on a lot of overpriced stuff. (Yes, I was playing with Photoshop.) -
This is fascinating! Stories like this are one of the reasons I love the hobby. I was reading the same article just this morning and thought "hmm, wonder what this will bring out of the woodwork..." Congrats on your (re) find! You may want to consider auctioning the cartridge on GameGavel (http://www.gamegavel.com) if you don't like fees. I am sure the owner of that site would love your business!
