  1.

Having now just read a bit about labo, I can now say this: I don't know if it's genius or not, I don't know if it has potential or not, but I have no reason to doubt it exists, or that it will be available in a few weeks without crowdbegging. Atarivcsboxthingie fails on both counts.

I just can't believe people are dumb of to spend $70 on card board. Gee just use all the boxes from deliveries and build Labo for only the price of your time.

  2. Are you doing anything fancy with yours, Tick? The 16GB one I have is a SanDisk series 10. I tried formatting to no avail. I tried loading out of the package but it didn't take. I've even tried a different AFP.

Nope just Windows 7 full format. Note mine is a very old from the 1990's ...16MB SD Card (not a modern 16GB which is 1024X larger). AtGames says use a 8GB or less. A 16GB SD Card is almost guaranteed NOT to work.

  3. Amazing what one can do with SEUCK! This one obviously is done with the hacked/unreleased horizontal version, compared to the original vertical scrolling version. I'm sure Cosmi had not minded releasing that as a sequel if it had been around in 1988-ish.

Anyway they did Forbidden Forest for Windows back in 2003.

  4. The review is pretty cool. I'm just very glad to see a quality, new retro console actually shipped!

I have 2 C64s / 2 1541 DD in the game room and also a C64DTV in the living room, so I will not be getting this one. Regardless this is pretty cool product but needs to have a smoother way to load many different games from USB. Also it would have been nice to have 3 USB ports as I'm sure the virtual keyboard would be agonizing. The video/audio delay is expected but seems pretty minimal so hopefully only hard core enthisests would even notice.

The board review was great. A20 running linux with board pins for SD card and serial/JTAG will make this baby a retro gamer toy as hardware mods are likely being worked on now.

I would like to buy the full sized North American version with a functional keyboard if that version ever ships! 2 USB ports would be fine for this model. I'm also assuming the USB game load would be a smooth process by the time full version ships.

And finally my brother is interested in getting one of these when the North American version is out. He's not much of gamer but did ask about getting a modern console for the living room to play the c64 games he remembers.

  5. Finishing the Infocom text adventure Planetfall.

Wow that must have taken many hours. I never really got into text adventures on C64 unless they had really cool graphics like Amazon and Treasure Island (both from Windham Classics). I was never able to finish either. Anyway I played a bunch of text games on the Vic-20. My favorite was Voodoo castle and was able to finish it!

  6. Achieving a rank of Blue Max, Class 3 in Blue Max.

Otherwise, probably getting to the pretzel level in Ms. Pac-Man before biting the dust. God damn, that game is hard.

I remember Blue Max being very hard but about all I remember was cool it was to bomb the bridge and see a car run into the mushroom bomb. I'll have to try and play it now .. probably been about 25 years since I last played Blue Max.

Yea I also remember the Ms PacMan pretzel level. I never got past the pretzel no matter many hours I played.

  7. What is you greatest C64 gaming moment? I just had mine!

I finally finished Impossible Mission on C64

It took about 35 years but I finally finished Impossible Mission! Woohoo!

Full disclose I had to cheat with unlimited time because I never had enough time to solve the puzzles.

  8. the remote that comes with the fire stick does that does that, cost what 30 bucks, comcast voice remote does that, comes with cable subscription

    its not a selling point

The newer Rokus due also. And even the ancient Roku can be voice activated via Roku smartphone app.

  9. I agree,

I hate the Intellivision controllers ( I sold my console)

I would like to see more Intellivision ported on 7800

I never understood the love of the Intellivision controllers. I found them difficult and awkward to use. They also seemed dated (ie from 60/70's sci fi) for the '80's.

  10. My 7 year old son's favorite game is Ghostbusters. It was a bit difficult for him at first but he learned to catch ghosts. He likes me to finish the game when the Marshmallow man shows up. We play it on my C64 and also on his tablet using VICE.

Looks like there is an Atari XL/XE version:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph87Lftez5w

Frogger , Frogger II , Qbert, Pac-Man, Donky Kong, Park Patrol and Dig Dug have very little violence and my son likes to play them.

He has a pretty new 2DS XL but still likes to play above games... When he gets frustrated with a 3DS game playing on his own he says "I want play the simple games now."

  11. Not to mention a crap ton of middle aged men licking Switch carts in youtube videos like they had some sort of weird sexual fetish! So I would say if anything, the news of the bitterant going viral had the unintended side effect of more people sticking carts in their mouths. I did this first thing when I unboxed Zelda. Now I know what Ganon tastes like. The bittering compound really isn't that overwhelming, but the aftertaste lingers for a notably longer time than I'd have liked. Washing with Lysterine (20% alcohol volume) helps immensely with dispersing the flavor.

That's great... sarcastically or real it is hilarious either way.

Now if I can just get my wife to spank me while I simultaneously lick a switch cartridge... oh yea that will do it!

  12. Atari VCS™ Rebooted: Game. Stream. Connect. Like Never Before. We've been busy these last few months further refining the home gaming and entertainment system we have always wanted.

So this just confirms it's an Ouya / Steam Machine for 3 times the cost and well a nice lit up Fuji Atari logo... yawn.

  13.

I'm outside looking in, just like everyone else at this point. I'm completely out of the loop from here on out.

But you know the slimeball personally and all the details when it started which is far more than any of us. The fact you "switched" from Atari fanboy working on promoting Ataribox to "wait and see" says all I need to know ...it's a scam. Though I credit you for taking the shots. I know I could never do what you do.

BTW I was hoping before the announcement (delay), it would ship and after the big financial failure I'd happily buy one at the $50 clearance price. Now I'm pretty sure it will not even ship.

  14. How many of you want to bet the prototype they showed is some existing board they dropped in their plastic case?

Na that sounds like too much work. More like a battery pack , a few resistors and LEDs connected. All that was presented were LED lights. My 7 year old son put together more complicated projects in under ten minutes.

  15. Exactly how did the controller hold up the release? Did it take two months to call up China and order a batch of knockoff Xbox controllers, in black?

Agreed the limited details we have seem like utter bullshit or completely clueless PMs / spokesman. Again I'm 90% chance of this being complete bullshit and only 10% the Atari spokesman is dumber than a common grapefruit.

Sorry for repeating myself about the 90% bullshit as I'm getting worried when I see our Atari SA fanboys liking my posts .. Argh!

  16. QA testing on what, renders?

Huh ? It was originally the gamepad identified as delaying the original release. If it's real they likely got a few protos from China (likely Flextronics) with new AMD chips and found MORE issues. Again this all speculation assuming the Atari SA spokesman is not lying. I personally think they have nothing other than a render, future manufacturing contract in China with Flextronics and an AMD future chip development contract. NOTHING else has been confirmed.

I'm still thinking it's 90% chance the Atari VCS is complete and utter bullshit and a slim 10% chance it's real and just the PMs and QA testers are some of the worst in the world.
