Huh ? It was originally the gamepad identified as delaying the original release. If it's real they likely got a few protos from China (likely Flextronics) with new AMD chips and found MORE issues. Again this all speculation assuming the Atari SA spokesman is not lying. I personally think they have nothing other than a render, future manufacturing contract in China with Flextronics and an AMD future chip development contract. NOTHING else has been confirmed. I'm still thinking it's 90% chance the Atari VCS is complete and utter bullshit and a slim 10% chance it's real and just the PMs and QA testers are some of the worst in the world.
-
Read the whole article.. wow IF what he said is legit they really have bad PMs and likey non existent or extremely bad QA testing! Atari says it had an unspecified issue with its hardware partner on the gamepad, and that caused them to abort the initial launch. But the way execs tell it, that one issue triggered a full audit of the project, which brings us to the awkward state of things today. "As we started digging a little deeper, we found there were more things that were maybe 90 percent of where we wanted to be instead of 100 percent," says Arzt. And now, it's been long enough that the company's considering whether it should move to a newer, faster AMD processor than the Bristol Ridge chip it originally planned to use. Which could mean a longer wait

It's a PC for God's sake. There will be root hacks and alternate bootable images in a matter of days and that's only because waiting for shipping!

Of course it does. I'm proposing the least effort "hidden" demo done without any morals. It's only prohibited if caught as there're retropie based business popping up and shutting down in complete violation of the commercial licensing! We are dealing with a sleazy Gameband CEO here on a very tight timing window and extremely low budget. We already know AMD is the chip partner so likely the finished product is a Ryzen-Vega Single Board Computer like one proposed picture shown below:
-
Ah so true as they could just use the Linux / retropie code for these though they may need to download/recompile Linux drivers and rebuild retropie from code....easier (low hanging fruit) to use a base raspberry Linux and base retropie as you only need to change the menu graphics and add the Atari logo everywhere! Plus the raspberry pie is cheaper half the cost of AMD's new Ryzen SBCs. From the little we get from press releases the "real" finished design is very likely intended to be one of these Ryzen SBCs. Actually for anyone that bored, checking which Ryzen SBC board matches the locations of ports on the Atari VCS would likely be the intended design for the final product. Anyone find Ryzen Single Board Computers as ATX boards would be too big? http://linuxgizmos.com/module-reveals-new-amd-ryzen-embedded-v1000-soc/

This is SO lame. I mean seriously for a running retrobox all they had to do is install retropie on a raspberry pie and change the menu a bit to hide the origin of the software and slap on some Atari logos ? Hardware wise after installing a raspberry pie just solder in the lights! Though to match the physical USB locations would need have to solder in the spread out USB connectors and would not even need to attach more than one... as only one would be needed for the joystick. I could have put a quickly tested demo like this together using the Ataribox shell in a few hours. Unless they demo it working tomorrow AND show the circuitry they are just being deceitful by advertising April order date.

Yea that comment and that picture is an insult to llamas and all that is Llamasoft !

Very well said. I moved on to the PC by late 80's and I had a close friend with an Amiga. I still had just a few late C64 games that were great .. Three Stooges (I think only Americans can appreciate) , IM II, Airborne Ranger, California Games being the late rare gems in my collection. I was not buying any new C64 after those and well was not pirating C64 anymore... moved on to PC and Amiga.

Yep there will be apps (why no <insert favorite app> questions) and lots and lots of online updates and versions. Just another complex OS that needs constant updating.

All the ones below I spent many hours playing and don't think I ever saw them on c64 favorite lists other than mine. I'm too lazy to check if any of them are in the top 100. Impossible Mission II Satan's Hollow Gamestar GFL Championship Football Super Bowl Sunday Amazon (Windham Classics text/graphic adventure) Treasure Island (Windham Classics text/graphic adventure) Aztec Challenge Realm of Impossibility 5 On Side Soccer Great American Cross-Country Road Race Super Cycle Three Stooges GI Joe Park Patrol Frogger II Jouste Wow the top 100 list is quite UK biased as it does not have some of the most popular games in the USA. So below are some of my favorite games that are often favorites in the USA .. but generally not known or popular in the UK. Ghostbusters Beach Head Beach Head II Raid Over Moscow World Games 4th and Inches Hardball Test Drive On Court Tennis Spy vs. Spy Blue Max Karateka Exploding Fist Rampage Zaxxon Super Zaxxon Fort Apocalypse Tapper BC Quest for Tires Marble Madness Moon Patrol Mario Brothers Crystal Castles Commando Frogger Defender Dig Dug Jungle Hunt

Very well done! Thanks!

This guy did the hack though he sawed off the plastic for the batteries. Not sure what I plan to do but need another in the event I mess up the mod. The Svideo mod would be nice also as the picture is well a little rough with composite. http://www.chrismcovell.com/c64dtv.html

Oh that's cool. Next time I'm in Binghamton I'll have to stop by .. before I hit the Water Street Brewing Company!

Most of us are pretty confident we will not even have the opportunity to buy it. Feargal Mac does not exactly have a good past in delivering his promises. As I stated before if it actually ships I'll buy it when it's on clearance for under $50.

The facebook site was yanked!
-
Well we know it's basically a nice looking overpriced Steam Machine with streaming (likely Netflix, Hulu, Pandora etc). and an interface to an on online Atati cryptocurrency based web portal. Sounds like a huge fail to me! By the way I'll be the first one one to buy one of these once they are quickly moved to clearance and selling for less than $50. This is assuming it actually ships which now I'm guessing is well below 50% chance.

The Raspberry Pi and Retropie discussion thread
thetick1 replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Emulation
If you have a kid just tell your wife it's for a STEM project. My son writes scratch programs for his robot. I made a retropie SD image for my son's GoPiGo robot. My son loves that he can swap SD cards, hook up his robot to the TV/game controller and play video games! My wife was not thrilled but at least I got my retropie robot to play video games. -
Gee why am I not surprised ? I doubt AMD is willing host Atari as Atari surely should have their own booth. Seriously look at all the no name companies at GDC that can afford a booth surely Atari could afford a measly small booth.

GameStop Store Visits Will Now Take Longer...
thetick1 replied to MotoRacer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
..until items go on clearance. Just last week the clearance table at the local GameStop had about 20 of these tacky Christmas stormtrooper sweaters for $2. I got one to wear for the yearly tacky Christmas sweater day at work! It was marked $34.99 retail. Who the hell would pay that ? https://www.gamestop.com/collectibles/jackets/holiday-sweater-star-wars-new-order-stormtrooper-red-sweater-medium/152328 I'm actually hoping GameStop closes all their stores and so I can buy up all the used 3DS games for pennies on the dollar. -

That's great! The best line I found: "Please stop sending us photos of abandoned blockbusters. That's like us sending you photos of your dead grandparents."
