DRAMARDUINO - Dram tester with Arduino
Mike Harris replied to xrbrevin's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Will this work with 4164's? -
Another insane buy that was once $1.99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-ColecoVision-Controller-SEALED-Atari-2600-Adam-Commodore-64-Vic-20/264447166441?hash=item3d924787e9:g:AvMAAOSwWkxdaGIP

And I am all for that. I am just waiting for everything to roll out and the ADAM Core before I get mine. I originally wanted to expand Venture to Super Venture which included all the treasures and what not missing from the Coleco version but retroillucid informed me that they bought Exidy and the Venture title so... Maybe with their permission I can complete the Coleco Venture while they have theirs. I'm not looking to compete more than I am to have the completed version in the Coleco library. Then again time is money. I have 15 titles in my list so far, two that I am working on as we speak. An ADAM hardware project and the Adventure game no one cared about so I set that to the side. A few of my games are ports but coded from scratch. When I get my Phoenix I have absolute plans to create exclusive games. I have already fleshed out a new platform game that uses the extra power. VERY original and cute.
-
No one is saying don't buy or anything else of that sort. I am simply saying NOTHING nostalgia, NOTHING new, Just ports. The Phoenix is someones brain child that was dreamed of and made reality, more than I have ever done, KUDOS... Regardless, nothing new other than the shell it comes in at a premium price. I still have plans to buy one once they add the ADAM core but it brings nothing new to the table. Who said I dislike SGM games? Now you are just including your take on things. All these so called SUPER GAMES are nothing new other than change a bit of code to work on a Colecovision. I never said they were garbage or don't buy them. Spend your money any way you want...enjoy And AGAIN... If you are going to expand the capabilities of the Colecovision then create original content. When you look at the SGM as a whole, from the outside, it looks like it was created for the sole purpose of porting MSX and ADAM Super Games with minimal effort. While the ORIGINAL SGM EXP#3 was supposed to expand the Coleco Library to Super Status with new levels and high score saving. So go on Ebay, pay the premium price and put it on the shelf with the rest of your collection. Enjoy, have fun...no one is stopping you.
-
In my research to program on the Coleco I have been studying MSX code as well. Go to MSX developer sites and changing Coleco to MSX or vice versa is just a few values. So it's not a mystery why there are plenty of MSX ports. If you are going to expand the Coleco then create something new that utilizes the new stuff. Something I have yet to see.
-
I get what you are saying but if you want to play an MSX game you can do it on a webpage, emulator, your phone... Just the mere selection of the chips gives the impression that the SGM was created to play MSX ports. Hey, if you have the money and want to spend $60 on a 40 year old game just because it was moved to a Colecovision then who am I to judge but there is nothing nostalgia or new about it. Not a classic and not a collectors item short of being in short supply. And if I had to bet... The carts were bought, copied then resold to recoup the premium price.
-
Because someone passed a rumor that they were rare. I would have thought that the SGM module was created for original content. The original Super Game Module expansion #3 was to play Super Games on wafer drives. Seriously... If you are going to extend the capabilities of the Colecovision then make new content to take advantage of them instead of just porting MSX and ADAM games. Where's the nostalgia of playing an MSX game on a different system.

Thank you so much.... Any history? The purpose? -
Coleco ADAM Ram Expansion and Tape Drive Repair
Mike Harris replied to doubledown's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Someone out there knows a heck of a lot better than I do being I am like an intermediate newbie. Underneath the later ADAM R80 Eproms is a piece of film with a pin on each end. I suspect they are a modification to use newer types of chips but can someone tell me what they really are and what they are used for. -

I have some 15NL's on the way and there is always a BUT in there... If the old Chips are 20NL's and you piggyback the 15NL's? You see where I am going with this. I guess the only thing is to try and see. My real concern is with the fraud on ebay is if I get good, working chips. Seriously, I have lots of tools around the house but I don't know how to test memory chips. My TNM5000 can read and write eproms, my capacitor tester checks components...memory is an eh.. -

I've been looking around for ADAM Programing books. Found SmartBasic 3rd ed SmartBasic 2 Smart Logo but have yet to find the CPM 2.2 digitized manual. If anyone has it can they take 5 and post it. Much gratitude. TIA

Checking online it seems that all 5 1/4 have become Vintage and every moron on the planet is selling them for over $100. I used to throw that garbage in the trash and would find them everywhere for like $3 Go to any computer repair shop and offer then a couple $$ and I am sure they will pull one from their parts bin in the back. I have one working model that I use to backup my old ADAM disks being that ADAM drives have all of a sudden been made of gold and diamonds. The ADAM Disk Drive...just another thing I tossed in the trash when I went into the military back in 89.

This came with a purchase I made of an Expansion Module 3, no printer. The Logo, Recipe Filer, Letters and Forms, Flash Facts and Flashcard Maker are all FACTORY SEALED with raised emblem on the outside of the packages. As a bonus I received this advertisement sealed in a plastic envelope. As you can see these are PROTOTYPE ADAM'S I think it was from an old magazine and the guy pasted it on some hard paper. Someone was obviously a collector and now this goes into my glass case in the man cave. Lucky purchases right???

I have a few ADAM's and I just picked up enough Memory for eight CPU's I am waiting now for my eprom programmer so I am also going to update all of them to Rev80 or better. I also plan to have a working Digital Data drive and an internal power supply. I may also put in an Arduino Based SD Floppy Emulator I can add an HDMI upscaler but it's only changing the regular composite out and does not improve it. It does however allow you to connect it to a modern TV through an HDMI port [email protected] So it will be an 80k Console, Keyboard and one controller completely updated. As soon as they are all together I am putting them on the market. PM me if you are interested.

I would watch out for this guy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Adam-Coleco-Data-drive-And-keyboard-Bundle-As-Is/303259649316?hash=item469baf0524:g:aEkAAOSws8RdPGs3 Melted Wheels and more over priced parts. But if you need them he doesn't seem willing to negotiate.
-
Pretty damn good.... Just as a viewer from the outside looking in... Can that be adapted to a working game or does it take the entire processing power of the Colecovision? I can pretty much guarantee you that not one of the original developers of the Colecovision would have ever dreamed this was possible. Can you imagine if this kind of music came out from the beggining. Coleco would have dominated the market.

Seems I am answering my own questions. I can replace the BIOS which is on the Delta Board with a 27C64 EPROM and altered BIOS. The Roms on the Gamma Board are the Smart Writer which I can replace with 27C64's as well Seriously, if I am wrong on anything let me know.
-
After research I am finding that the ADAM BIOS? or Smart Writer? was on a TMS47128 Read Only Rom or you can use a 2764 Eprom. So the 2754 is 8k? and the 47128 is 16K. My R80 version has 3 2764's and 4 sockets. I know R80 is just the Smart Writer version number and I reference that as the last public release even though I have a higher version. So how does all of this fit together. 3 Chips combined equals the total product? 2 Bios and 1 Smart Writer? 1 Bios and 2 Smart Writer? Or are they all 3 Smart Writer with the EOS on the Coleco Board? I mean I do not mind using eproms, I just want it all to work. I eventually want to experiment on improving the BIOS for release to the public, maybe fixing a bug or two.
-
Does that scroll pattern loop or is it made on the fly.
-
That's cool..but what does the gibberish > mean? It looks like a CPM command prompt. And what is a Sound List?
-
Can someone give a quick class on what type eproms to flash concerning the ADAM BIOS. I have 3 chips on my R80 board that contain the SmartWriter R80 and I suspect EOS on them. What do you recommend that I do if I want to flash my own and replace them? Also, with my R80 board underneath the Chips which is not on older boards is some type of jumper encased in film? if someone can identify that as well. Also regular Coleco Cartridges. If anyone wants to chime in I am all ears. Which Flasher do you recommend that I could use both types of chips on. If you know of any that are NOT some old serial or Parallel port and are modern equipment. The ultimate purpose is to modify the BIOS, maybe fix some corrections then add them back into the system.

I just don't get it. First you have something labelled as such. BYTE >03,>CA,>2F,>D1,>0C I understand Assembly language on other systems such as DB 003H,0CAH,02FH,0D1H,00CH Would this be the same? Then the basic idea of writing music and converting it to data. My desire is to transfer or as you were TRANSLATE TI99/A to play on the Colecovision. Sure, different chips but still an A, B or even a C# has an equivalent on both systems. Thoughts, comments?

Anyone have $30,000? https://www.ebay.com/itm/ColecoVision-VIDEO-HUSTLER-Authentic-Prototype-Test-Game/173992029684?_trkparms=aid%3D777001%26algo%3DDISCO.FEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160801204525%26meid%3D1035b50674b341f6ab4d85396e31882e%26pid%3D100651%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D173992029684%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100651.m4497&_trkparms=pageci%3Aef9a284d-c2d9-11e9-a65a-74dbd180e4f5|parentrq%3Aac3bb35316c0a9c5463d9aa7fffcf1bf|iid%3A1 Even if I had Trump's money I wouldn't buy this but you guys might.

LOL It's an ADAM program that allows you to compose music, save it and I think print out the sheet music but don't quote me on that. Graphics I think I have mastered. Sounds and Music is still a mystery. Just waiting on Tony Cruise's next two programing videos which is supposed to explain sound and music.
