I have a Wico adaptor for my CoCo set-up, which lets Atari compatible sticks work. This is a great benefit for many games. But, some of the CoCo games work better with the stock analog CoCo controller. I'd like to make a list of which ones. I know it may be preference for a particular person, but list them anyway. The ones I know for sure from testing are below: Popcorn Bustout Polaris

Thanks so much Albert, this is great! -
Show support for a TRS-80 Sub-Forum, post here
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
A single forum is all that is needed and would be great. Tandy may be the best name or TRS-80 and derivatives. MarkO, did you get the huge game zip file off the CoColist? Gustavo S. optimized the game files off the colorcomputerarchive to play on the CoCoSDC. It works great. -
In the thread A Commodore subforum on the horizon? we discussed the possibility of a TRS-80 / Tandy / Radio Shack sub-forum. I think it would be great to have a place to specifically discuss CoCo gaming (and to easily search topics). Al didn't seem opposed to the idea, so let's show our support for the idea. Post if you think it would be a nice addition to the AtariAge website. I know the CoCo fanbase is not large (but, I suspect it is larger than many people think) and I know that it is an effort to start and keep a sub-forum, but the CoCo in the past few years has gotten some great devices (like DriveWire and the CoCo SDC) to make gaming easier to get into and enjoy. Thanks.

A Commodore subforum on the horizon?
RangerG replied to high voltage's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
The mailing list is active, but the topics are technical and often about programming. There isn't much beyond it that is active (except a new Facebook group, which seems to be doing well). With DriveWire and now the CoCoSDC it is easy to get into CoCo gaming. I also think the TRS-80 was more popular than people realize. Atariage is just so much easier to post to and search through (for me) compared to a mailing list or Facebook. -
A Commodore subforum on the horizon?
RangerG replied to high voltage's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I'd really like to see a TRS-80 / Radio Shack / Tandy sub-forum. There has been a lot of renewed interest in the CoCo and there is a need for a more gaming focused forum. I know there isn't a lot of TRS-80 traffic, but I suspect it would attract interest. -
Please put me on the list for one.

Great news Al, keep us posted, thanks! I have my 5200 carts displayed front and center and all the Atari ones looks so sad next to the third party ones.

I wish PBoland would look into this, his overlays are outstanding and he did labels for Adam disks.

I would purchase a set of these as well, they look great.

5200 problem - Need to power system off and on to get joystick working ?
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Atari 5200
thanks for the tips, I'll start there -
I have the original Harmony (early one). It's great. Is there a list anywhere of games that I would be able to add if I upgraded to the Encore? I'm on the fence about the upgrade, but if there are some good games I'm missing out on or potential games that are in the pipe line, then I may go for it. Thanks.

5200 problem - Need to power system off and on to get joystick working ?
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Atari 5200
I was hoping someone else had this problem before. I literally need to click the power button on and off 5 or 6 time to make sure everything on the controllers will work. Could it be the controller ports, the power button, etc.? -
Is the Tandy Color Computer becoming more popular to collectors?
RangerG replied to AtariLeaf's topic in Tandy Computers
Yes, and I blame AtariLeaf and his YouTube videos . Go check the old threads over at Digital Press. People were giving away Coco stuff for free, begging people to take their stuff -- now people are fighting over DinoWars -- all because of AtariLeaf, ha! -
Here is my issue: Whenever I power up the 5200, the controllers don't completely work. Usually down on the joystick doesn't work. Sometimes, down and the fire buttons don't work. Now, here is how I get it to work. I power the machine off and on and then the joystick will go down. But, sometimes I end up powering it off and on up to four times to get all the functions working, first direction, then fire button, then keypad, etc. It always works eventually, but this can't be good for the system and it must be a symptom of something that needs fixing. But what? This happens on multiple types of controllers, so it is not the joystick or controller (which is what I used to think, as I took them apart and looked for issues). Any help appreciated!

I showed him how to redo the entire rca plug with a screw-able non-solder replacement, so the situation is solved.
-
I sold an a/v modified 7800 system. The buyer contacted me and the gold foil on one of the plugs pulled off. I know exactly what he is talking about - it is the tip (or rather the metallic covering, the white tip is there, just exposed). But, I can't figure out how to tell him to fix it. I want to help him, any ideas for any easy fix? Is there just a tip replacement or a simple method to replace one plug. I'm not sure of his electronics skills, so the easier the better. Thanks.

Best Television/Monitor for Framemeister and Classic Games
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I assume monitors with HDMI are best as well? Which is better tv or monitor? -
Best Television/Monitor for Framemeister and Classic Games
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So, it is for HDTV going through HDMI. That explains it better to me, thanks. -
The posts on being able to have RGB output on the Intellivision and Colecovision peaked my interest, but they both need the Framemeister. There is lots of information out there about the Framemeister, but what do you hook it up to for the classic systems (sdtv, hdtv, or monitor)? So many modern monitors and hdtvs are widescreen and this doesn't seem best for classic games. But, does the Framemeister work with a standard sized sdtv or are there big negatives to this set-up? I'd like to know how others have set this up. If I went this route (the cost is a drawback at this point , I have a small gaming area (good for 13" monitors and tvs), so I'd like some ideas.Thanks.

Tandy Coco 3: new game engine called DynoSprite and demo
RangerG replied to Richard42's topic in Tandy Computers
I would love to see more homebrews for the CoCo. I think with DriveWire and now the CoCoSDC (and a flash cart in the works I believe) that the user base for these games is getting larger. Thanks for this. -
Which cart to use?, gold foil or color picture - such decisions :-).

Is there anything user-friendly or multicart-like for CoCo gaming?
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Tandy Computers
Thanks MarkO. I have both DriveWire and the CoCoSDC. Butm I have only tested CoCoSDC to make sure it is working. DriveWire has been great. Ninja helped me set it up and I finally got the hang of all the commands and how it works. Part of me just wants to keep DriveWire and figure out how to use the CoCoSDC for games DriveWire doesn't support. I was asking about the CoCoSDC replacing DriveWire because it seems like that is how others are moving. Ninja set me up with a cart with a socketed HDB-DOS, the CoCo3 one. In talking with him, I realize there are differences in initial game speed and color if you have HDB-DOS CoCo 2 vs. 3. I was just wondering how the CoCoSDC fits into this (if it does)? Keep us posted on how CoCoSDC works for you! Take care. -

RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Tandy Computers
MarkO, Looks great, thanks. If you have the CoCoSDC, do you still need DriveWire? If this reads the .dsk images from a SD card, doesn't this get rid of the need for a cable to connect to the computer? Also, does the CoCoSDC have HDB-DOS rom in it or a functional equivalent? It says that it supports DriveWire, so I assume it does? Do you know of this rom is the CoCo 1,2,or 3 one? Take care, RG -
Looking forward to playing. I vote for homebrews - if they are freely available. Otherwise, it is disappointing when you have kept up for months and then a homebrew is played that you don't have. You feel left out.
