  1. I'll be going to either one or both! However, you all should get together and combine it. Either location is good. Orlanda or Tampa will draw from South Florida more, but Jacksonville might get people from Georgia and even other Southern states. A buy/trade/swap meet with an arcade -- can't wait!
  2. I have an INTV II and one of the controllers I suspect needs cleaning/lubricating. Has anyone ever opened one up and cleaned or fixed one. They don't have screws like the regular INTV disc controller. Should I pry it with a screwdriver or will this crack it? I like the way these controllers have a long cord and are detachable, but they feel so much cheaper than the originals. Thanks for the help!
  3. Wow -- that is freaky! Nice link.
  4. Over on the Digital Press website there is a thread talking about how classic and pretty much how great this game is. I want to check this game out for my gameboy advance. Anyone here played it and also recommend it (or dislike it)? Take care, RG
  5. Sign me up. My family lives in Jupiter (I grew up there) and my wife's family lives in Kendall so we are in S. Florida several times a year. Take care, RG
  6. I have heard that the Konami collection is good and one is coming from Sega soon with Space Harrier, Out Run and two more games. Looks promising!

CPUWIZ's mock-up is great (you have to include Robin). That really captures what could have been.
  8. I have to say that the Intellivsion controllers are the worst especially when you consider that there is no alternative to them. At least there were some third party alternatives to the 5200 and Colecovision joysticks, but all the Intellivision was those terrible sticklers that break and fall off and don't make the disc a joystick by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe if I forced myself to endure playing the Intellivision then my hands would get used to them. The 7800 sticks have a similar painful hold to them. Not that related, but I tried an Odyssey2 joystick finally and it was pretty nice.
  9. We really need a Florida swap meet and Orlando sounds good because it is central has cheap lodging and has stuff to do to make a trip into a vacation. I really like the idea of a swap meet where you bring your extras and dupes and you trade and talk. Of course a few games would be set up, but it wouldn't need to be a huge affair.
  10. I actively collect for the 2600, 5200, Intellivision, Colecovision and the Odyssey2. However, I don't have an Odyssey2 and have never played it. I must say that I love the 5200 and the Colecovision for gameplay and the 2600 has the best nostalgia factor for me. Twice I have found Intellivisions and twice I have sold them after cleaning them up and then not playing them. I guess I'm one of those that doesn't really like the system. It honestly interests me the least of the major classic systems. The controllers hurt my hands (fingers) and so many of the Intellivision games can be found on the 2600. At least the Odyssey2 has unique games and characters (as does the Colecovision). Just being honest -- I feel the same way about the Atari 7800. I have had the system but I like to keep systems hooked and up and ready to play so I limit it to systems I really like to play and Intellivision isn't one. I do keep any Inty games I find that I don't already have because I may someday want an Inty collection. I'm sure if I had an Intellivision as a kid that it would be a different story. I had a TRS-80 color as a kid and I like those games and I know nostalgia is the only reason to love TRS-80 games (there are a few gems .
  11. I agree with Allan -- someone please scan it. We need a good picture of the guy carrying the case. It would also make a great avatar. Such a cool box . . . So what do you all think it will go for? Did anyone actually buy one of these cases back in the 80s? Were you getting ready for sleepovers and all-night 5200 marathons .
  12. Marco -- Please tell us when and how you got a boxed 5200 carrying case. What a great item and the box is in great shape. The kid on the box carrying his massive 5200 briefcase looks so dorky yet I'm so jealous . AtariAge should feature your auction on the front page. Take care, RG
  13. Thanks Gabriel -- I told them that most Xbox games have a really steep learning curve. However, they know another couple with an Xbox that love it and they wanted a video game machine and a DVD player for movies. Anyway -- thanks for the ideas (anyone else?). -- RG P.S. It sounds better to say games for "casual gamers" than "simple" games -- good idea.
  14. Thanks for the speedy reply (I sent you a pm). ! I will order with Best Electronics. By the way, do you think it is worth it to get the fire-buttons?
  15. John -- I agree with Mr. Retrogamer in that you should give the regular controllers a chance (and he is a very reliable source to get them from). The Wico controller has better fire buttons, but it is still mushy. I have never used the comp. pro stick, but I don't like using the 2600 Comp. Pro stick that looks just like it. Good luck!
  16. I have some free time finally and for awhile I have been wondering about adding the extra dots to my 5200 controller fire buttons. The rebuilt controllers have three dots (is this correct?). Does this make any difference or would I be wasting my time adding them? The next question is would anyone be willing to sell me any (hello Mr. Retrogamer because I can't place an order with Best Electronics for just fire buttons. I would need enough to redo three controllers (two regular and a paddle) and I could Paypal anyone. Thanks!
  17. Friends of ours (a couple) just got an Xbox. I suggested it to them because they really wanted a new video game machine and they wanted a DVD player. They are not big gamers at all and all the games I really know well are all older games. Are there any games for the Xbox that are basic/simple in that they are not so complicated to learn how to play and memorize all the buttons to press. They have Splashdown (I think that is the name) which I noticed is by Atari (Infogames) which they like to play (It's a waverunner game). Namco Museum is a definite one to get, but any more ideas - thanks!
  18. If Nintendo does falter in or even leave the console market, I think there will be lots of sentimentality towards the company (like there is with Atari). It has possibly the most classic system (NES) next to the 2600 and many people grew up on Nintendo with its many kid games and characters. In the college newspaper here they had a recent front-page article on video-games with one writer writing about and defending a system and trashing the other ones. The systems compared were the XBOX, the PS2, the GameCube and the NES. It treated them all like they were legitimite competitors with pros and cons. NES has strong nostalgia among college kids today.
  19. It really seems true that the Genesis is under-appreciated/under-collected. I see games and carts all the time and the local used video game shop owner told me he hardly ever sells Genesis games and has stopped taking them in unless it is a really rare game while NES stuff he continues to trade and sell well.
  20. I have a paddle just like that because Skatepunk made it for me a long time ago and it still works great!
  21. You all are forgetting ROTJ: Death Star Battle. It might be a rare cart for the 5200 and a great find for your collection, but the gameplay is poor (one of the worst for the 5200 that I have played). It has two screens which endlessly repeat and even those aren't much fun. It is hardly better than the 2600 version. By the way, I think Kangaroo is pretty fun to play and I agree with many that the paddle makes a big difference with some of the games mentioned.
  22. Everyone is really helping me out with some great ideas (keep them coming). I forgot about the e-reader and I didn't know Tetris also came out on the GBC (is it a different game at all?). Dragon Warrior series games sound great. By the way, what about any of the Gauntlet games on the Gameboy? I know Dark Legacy is out now and I think GBA or GBC had Gauntlet or Gauntlet 2.
  23. My wife just let it slip that I'm getting a GBA SP for my birthday next week . Besides being super happy that I have a great wife and will have a great gift, I want to know what you all think of my tiny game list of games to get. I have checked several older similar topics and I think I now have a list of a few games that I must own. It seems like Donkey Kong and Tetris are classics and still deserve to be enjoyed. Any suggestions on GBC games that were really good? Some GBA games it seems eveyone says are pretty good are Metroid Fusion, Castlevania (the Moon one), Lord of the Rings (the Two Towers), Sonic 2, and Super Mario World. As you can probably tell, I'm not that familiar with modern games, but are these good choices? Any more ideas? Oh yea, I want the Konami Arcade Classics game -- that seems to be a recommended title as a good classic collection. Thanks!
