What do the labels look like? (i.e. condition on a scale of 1-10) 1 = a cat pissed on it; a dog chewed it, and now I rescued it form the thrift 10 = looks brand new to me

I'm with you StanJr. I love to buy them when I see them -- the greatest irony is that these Christian titles are completely unlicensed/quasi illegal titles (am I correct?)

Ok -- I feel like the biggest idiot. I was trying to reassemble it upside down (or actually right side up). I just put it together perfectly. Thank you Mr. Retrogamer. Ah well -- I have a new working 5200 stick. Thanks again -- An embarrassed RG

Has anyone fixed a 5200 Wico controller before? At first the stick wouldn't center in the up position. I took it apart and now it will center in the vertical, but not the horizontal. It is driving me crazy because I can't hold everything together and get the cover on. I have two other extra working sticks so I can let it sit and come back to it, but will I succeed at this via trial and error or is something really broken and I'm wasting my time? Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciated. To me it far easier to clean and repair a stock 5200 stick -- this thing is just barely holding togehter when you slap the cover on and tighten the screws. Thanks, RG

CPUWIZ (or anybody) -- I am putting my new carts away and checking off on my list my two new acquisitions. My master list has Spitfire Attack listed twice -- once with label and once without (like it does with other major label variations). If the cart came with the label and the label was not put on and lost, I wouldn't really consider a cart without a label a separate label variation or even something different for me to want to collect -- what do you think? Now -- I can see if someone had a label-less cart and the unused label, that might be worthy of a second entry . . . hmmm
-
CPUWIZ -- Thanks for the information -- I had no idea. The cart is in great shape and does have both labels. Any reason why the company didn't put the labels on (cost cutting I guess)?

I seem to find NES Wisdom Tree (religious/Christian) titles frequently and they are listed as pretty scarce/rare for NES. I have picked up nine in the past few months now that I know to look for them. I bet they are found more frequently here in the Bible Belt. Does my theory hold? Do you New England/out West classic gamers find very many Wisdom Tree titles? How about all you Southern Baptists in Texas and South Carolina and Lower Alabama (the real L.A.) are you swimming in Wisdom Tree titles?

CPUWIZ -- Our digital camera is with my wife at work (I can get the camera tonight). However, it looks just like the cart in the archives here on AtariAge. Maybe it is just me, but I saw the end label first and looked like a pirate cart with that big white writing. I just played it and it's an OK game, but I keep dying as I need to practice taking out the oncoming plane (I'm great at taking out the guns on the ground . I guess I just need that rare Milton Bradley gun controller and I'd be a real pilot ace . Take care, RG

I went to eat with my wife (she had to work), saw some of the downtown parade and decided to stop by the nearby pawnshop on the way home. I haven't found anything Atari in several months, but I found Millipede (which I surprisingly didn't have) and Spitfire Attack (I though it looked like a pirate cart with the white block lettering on the label). I also bought LoLo 3 and Spiritual Warfare (two somewhat rare NES games). It was all expensive ($5 for NES and $4 for Atari), but the labels and carts are in outstanding condition. Well -- a small find, but it sure it great to have a hit again . Isn't it nice to find even just one cart after a dry spell? Did anyone else stop by anywhere during the holiday?

I'm thinking ahead to PhillyClassic (my first convention). Now (November and December) is the time when I tend to sell extras on EBay to take advantage of the pre-Christmas prices. However, if I can trade stuff at PhillyClassic -- I will hold on to it. Do people tade at conventions? If they trade is it only rare stuff? For example -- I have maybe a dozen Atari 3s and 4s with nice labels, about 30 NES carts I would count as rare (Aladdin carts and Wisdom Tree titles, etc.) and the local used gaming store here has a nice selection of used NES, Genesis, SNES and Sega CD titles which I would love to pick through and buy the rarer ones in hopes of trading for Atari and Colecovision stuff. However -- is this neo-classic stuff trade-bait at all at a classic convention like Philly? Most of the pictures of the conventions seem like they are for buying stuff, listening to talks, and playing free-play (all of which sounds great); whereas, the New England swap meet sounded more like a real trading fest. Thanks for the help from all you convention veterans. -- RG

Which classic game have you always sucked at?
RangerG replied to DeV0's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Defender takes it for me -- too much going on and I get going to fast. I stink across all consoles and the real arcade game is a joke for me. For some reason platform games are more my style because even Asteroids I quickly drift off course and never get back to the middle. However -- I challenge anyone to Amidar on the 2600. -
PackRat -- I like your site. The idea of scanning the games is awesome. I like really great labels and the problem with so many Internet stores, trades, and any bulk Ebay buy is that you never really know what you are getting label-wise. I'm sure it is a pain, but it is worth it for the consumer and a real incentive to buy (do you think you will do it for the Colecovision games?). Take care, RG

Chad -- I am finished picking your brain. Thanks again, -- RG
-
Chad -- thanks for the to the point reply. So you could have "multi-cart" cd or cds with all the Atari roms. One last question (I promise!) -- would the new flash-something (it is being discussed in the 2600 forum) be able to download to a CD. How is the flash different than the cuttle cart? Take care, RG

I agree with Sleep. I have understood about 10% of this conversation. I would like to think I am an intelligent fellow (I am working on my Ph.D. in literature and linguistics), but I am a complete electronics newbie/dummy. If this plays roms on the Atari and I can figure out how to make it do that, please produce it and tell me where to send my name for the sign-up list  Thanks, RG
-
Chad -- Thanks for the fast reply and great product you made. I read your website, but I still have a few questions about the Supercharger and Cuttle cart. You can save roms on a CD so you could have sorta of a multi-cart CD?? How many would fit on a CD. If not, when you load them via the Cuttle Cart from the computer (speaker card) do they stay in the Cuttle Cart or do you reload one each time. Sorry for such simple questions and I'm sure you have been asked too many times, but thanks for the reply. Another quick question -- the program wavplayer I think says it needs Windows 95, do it will not work with Windows 2000? Take care, RG
-
scshell (Scott) -- I assume you are the original maker of the cuttle cart. Will you really never make another one of these?? I know your website says you will not, but I want to hear it from you! Who has a cuttle cart? How much better is it than say a Sean Kelly multi-cart or a modified Supercharger? Take care, RG P.S. If it breaks the $350 mark would this bring you out if retirement. PLEASE!!!!!!!

Clay -- Do you think you will be Santa Claus for us all and have some ready to ship by Christmas? I am on the e-mail list so thanks for the updates. Honestly -- take your time and make it the very best possible! Good luck and looking forward to master control . . . -- RG

Is it a sin to love classic gaming but not like the 2600
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Atari 2600
Thanks Chris -- I really wouldn't get rid of the 2600 (it is just too symbolic of an era sitting on my table), but I might just go to unique titles and I am going to direct my meager hobby resources toward the 5200 and Colecovision. I think for me (and probably many others) a lot of classic enjoyment comes from memories. I never had a 2600 so it doesn't hold that exalted position of first console. My cousin had a 2600 which we have many good memories of, but he got the 5200 when it first came out (spoiled kid also got an IBM PC JR when it first came out -- no jealousy here ) . We both loved the 5200 and played it to death, so my classic memories revolve around it. I also loved the arcades as a kid (having no system at home made them more unique) and I think the 5200 and Colecovision match these memories well (or maybe I should start collecting coin-ups -- my wife will love that . Take care, RG -
Is it a sin to love classic gaming but not like the 2600
RangerG replied to RangerG's topic in Atari 2600
WOW -- I'm off to church now Thankfully, you all are not close enough to get together a tar and feathering rally  -- RG -
I have been thinking for some time now about selling my 2600 collection (or just going to unique titles) and concentrating on the 5200 and Colecovision. I reached what seems to be the threshold for the 2600 in terms of finds in the wild about 4 to 5 months ago. I spent about a year and a half and found almost 200 games for the 2600 (includes major label variations), but everything seems to be duplicates now. I really think 200 is the mark where wild finds becomes really scarce. Anyways, people love to see my 2600 when they come over and they like to see the 2600 carts, but I personally seldom play the 2600. I much prefer the 5200 and Colecovision. These are easily my favorite systems and I'd like to concentrate my collecting on them as I start to take the next step in the classic gaming hobby (going to conventions -- hello Philly Classic  ). The 2600 is somewhat depressing in that I realize how much money it would take to continue the collection and I would never have a complete collection. Whereas, with the 5200 and Colecovision I can see myself someday having a complete collection of carts with great lables and a gaming library with games I would love to play. Anyone on the board had similar experiences? I'm overstating any dislike for the 2600, but you get the gist . . . -- RG
-
The reason this is a such good topic (I could read it over and over) is because the two systems in questions are truly great systems. They are easily my two favorite systems. I like the look of the 2600 sitting on my table, but I seldom play it (the shame!). However, the 5200 and the Colecovision to me capture classic gaming. They also compliment each other in that the two systems' libraries don't have tons of overlap so if you have both systems you have an incredible classic gaming library. This isn't true with Intellivision and the Atari 2600 where it seems like except for sports games the games overlap and aren't so different. I see similar discussions about NES and SMS (although I consider this a different gaming era), but the NES so clearly won the contest in the U.S. whereas the 5200 and Colecovision ran a close battle and then died early so the mystique contiues . . . Honestly, two must have systems in my opinion -- just please please hurry with the new MasterControl joystick adaptor  . That will be the best Christmas present!

I know it has been explained before, but a few more details on a car boot show. I gather that people sell "goods" out of their trunk (isn't the hood of a car in England called a bonnet -- I love that, but I digress . . .). My question is do they pay to enter the place and have a space like flea market vendors do here and are there official places that will have such a sale every week or is it just random like a yard sale here. They sound great -- I want to see one -- RG

I just had to post a link: http://pbskids.org/jayjay/ Those guys are SCARY looking, but I guess no more than tele-tubbies By the way: Koffi looks great!

Rob and others -- Keep me posted. I live in Tallahassee and I would be willing to drive. You guys sound like you have some great stuff to show and I would like to meet some people and ask then some mod and emulation questions. Would it also be a trade/swap meet because that would be fun? It might be too far for me, but I love the Coke museum . Take care and I hope it works out! RG
