She's dead, Jim: 2600 Comp. Mod, PLEASE Help!
Paul Slocum replied to AtariKari's topic in Atari 2600
Have you tried hooking it up to a different TV or monitor? I've read that some TV/monitors won't work as well with the mod. -Paul -
$30 just for the cart instructions. Not for the modified Atari and everything. I'm actually thinking I may go with Hozer for this one, in which case it will be $16 or so. -Paul

6 Switch. Mostly, I just think it's a lot more convenient to have all the switches on the front. Also the woodgrain's nice, and I like the lowercase font. -Paul

I honestly really enjoyed it when I was a kid. I probaly got it about 1983-4 and really spent a lot of time writing programs. At the time, we didn't have a computer and I didn't know anyone who did, so I didn't realize quite how limited it was. -Paul

Thanks guys! It looks like it might be the first of January before I finish it. I thought I'd be done with school in a week, but now I'm going to be slammed right up until Christmas. But after that I have until next Fall for nothing but Atari! Although there were so many awesome labels in the Gunfight contest, I've had labels in mind for my carts for a while. But I will consider it. I'm not sure of the price yet, but it won't be more that $30 shipped. Depends on how I decide to produce them. -Paul

I've printed Basic Programming overlays for the video touch pads before. It's crumby quality, but here's my layout in Microsoft Word format. It should print about the right size, but you may have to tweak it a bit depending on your printer. Basic Programming Video Touch Pad Overlays 250k -Paul

Does anyone have a dump of the PAL ROM image? I was going to compare them, but I don't seem to have one in my "All 2600 ROMs" folder. -Paul
-
Here's a PAL copy. They appear to look exactly like the rare NTSC ones. PAL BMX -Paul

I really think you could get the solution much faster by dumping the ROM and dissasembling it than trying all those combinations. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that someone would do that to win the contest. -Paul

You can't get joystick input. Only keypad. I have a book of Basic programs I wrote when I was a kid. There's not much useful you can do. It's tough with so little RAM. I think it's limited to 12 lines because that was just the way it was programmed. Often, you run out of symbols before you reach 10 lines, so I guess they didn't think there was much point to supporting more lines. It probably could be expanded using supercharger RAM, but you'd have to add the ability to scroll for more lines of code, etc. It would be a lot of work. -Paul

I managed 5.97 on Dragster. I try and try but can't beat that time. I hit the button when the counter says 1, basically pop the clutch twice at the start (since first gear goes so fast), hit third, hit forth, and tap the clutch a couple of times in fourth. nullDragster Time What are the next few games that are going to be on the quest? I'd to get a few screenshots now because I'm borrowing a digital camera but have to give it back soon. -Paul

Stampede does have tips. Here's the last page of the manual. Stampede -Paul

New Spider Fighter high score! Screen Shot -Paul

I'd love to see my tip in print (or online)! -Paul

Prices really are high. Everything I put on watch bids way out of my reach. I just threw some of my dupes on ebay. We'll see how they do. -Paul
-
For Stampede, I leave a group of the slow brown ones at the top and bottom the whole game and keep nudging them up, only roping the ones in the middle. I made 3233 this way. -Paul
-
Prices seem a little inflated lately. Often when I seen insane prices, if you look at the bid history, it's a bunch of people with (0) or (1) for feedback in a bidding war. I saw a Supercharger by itself go for $150 one time. -Paul

It's not 64k, but the board Hozer Video uses to make multibank carts does support 32k ROMs. -Paul

Tom, actually I sold you that copy of Alligator People. I made that myself, so it's not an original prototype. Probably worth about $10. -Paul

That catalog is from when I bought my Wico bat-handle controller around 1983. ;c) -Paul
-
I use Wico bat-handles and the Epyx joystick. Epyx isn't good for diagonals, but Wico isn't as precise. Here's a Wico catalog. It doesn't have the Boss, though. Wico Catalog -Paul
