The TX was a 286 bolted to an XT with enhanced PC Jr. graphics. Quite a strange but very nice machine!
You probably need an XT IDE adapter for a CF card, which are readily available on eBay.
Yes a standard 720K floppy should work. Just check the cable some earlier Tandies didnt use the twisted cable to identify the first drive.
Yes a Gotek will work.
thanks
from what I understand the 1000 floppy gets power from the cable
is this a problem for a gotek (do I need to alter the cable to cut the power and then run a power connector from the ps

just took this in on trade
it boots but I cant get any farther than it looking for system disk
it does have an internal hdd but its long toast
and it did come with some dos /basic disks but the 3.5 drive just grinds and complains lol
do standard 35 drives work
will a gotek work
what about a cf hdd kit
what do I need to get her going again

is what I use when we have them in stock at my store
never had a problem
as far as the belt be sure to get a silicone belt as a rubber one will end up slipping and wear ot fast just like the original
ps it can be a sob to replace the belt (out of the lots of 20 I buy at a time maybe 15 will work after just a belt replacement )
its easy to actually replace but the calibration is a pia
I recommend just buying one of these and the adapter for the sharp twin
http://3dscapture.com/fdsstick/
or just buy one of these and shove the drive in your twin

also nice to have on hand to fix disks that were overwritten or erased
belts I use

working on games for a living the most common failure we come across on the Saturn is broken drive gears and bad power supply
if I were you I would just either buy or make your own pseudo Saturn cart and be done
I love mine

Wait, it takes about 3 1/2 hours to create one complete Astrocade cartridge shell? Even with six printers going, that's a long time to print shells. How much are these printers... and why do you have six of them?!?
Adam
lol that's why I have six (and plan on at leas 3 more ) the cart shell is a fast print
a lot of the stuff I print takes upwards of 12-24 hours to print per part and require multiple parts
my printers start at around 150$ for the small ones and up to 300$ for the bigger ones (new printers are going to cost more like 500-800 since im going big ,ike print a helmet that fits on my head big )
right now I have 1 that supports print size of 100x100x120 mm
3 that print up to 120x120x120mm
and 2 that do 220x220x240mm
and planning to buy 2 that do 300x300x400mm and 1 that will do 500x500x500mm
I bought my first one around 2 months ago and went nuts from there
bought them mostly for my train layout but its also handy to print things for our arcade/videogame store
and im the coolest dad on the block printing my sons (and daughter ) cool cosplay stuff
my 3yr old thinks he has his own personal toy factory lol
here are some pics sorry everything is currently in a state of disarray been working on some big projects

How long does it take to print one of these cartridge shells (both the top and the bottom)?
Adam
depends on the printer I use and the resolution I print it at but the ones in the pics printed at fine resolution took 1 hour 45 mins per side but I have 6 printers so can print at the same time

im going to move this out of the astrocart thread
I have been working on finishing / refining the astrocade cart found here
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:173532
I have already modified it to fit the ultimulti cart (simply cut a hole in it lol)
but id also like to make it look a bit more like the real deal
the printable cart is missing the recess for the cart label and is a bit flimsy on the top and bottom
I dug out my mic and indeed I do have a bit of workable thickness available
looks like the original is around 12.27mm
and the printed one is around 11.98mm

Lance Squire designed a 3D printable cart shell for the Bally Arcade/Astrocade system back in 2013. It looks like this:
Astrocade_3D-Printed_Cart_Shell_01.jpg
Astrocade_3D-Printed_Cart_Shell_03.jpg
Astrocade_3D-Printed_Cart_Shell_04.jpg
Astrocade_3D-Printed_Cart_Shell_05.jpg
Astrocade_3D-Printed_Cart_Shell_06.jpg
Maybe this shell can be used for the flashcart's shell?
Here is a link to the files:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:173532
Even if these files for the cartridge shell don't work as-is, then hopefully they'll be a good starting point for creating a shell that works well with the flash cart.
Adam
I edited it to work with the ultimulti (pics of the pink and white cart above )
and should not be hard to modify for the op's pcb
the only problems I had was that the chip legs had not been trimmed (lol and solder was a bit of a blob ) so I just had to reflow the solder and clip the chip legs shorter
then measure the distance of the opening for the dipswitch and add it in tinkercad
the shell is a bit thin on the top and bottom and does not have the recess for the cart label but I'm going to try and thicken it up a bit and add the recess (feels a bit flimsy as it is )

Watch for a flood of used cards on the market pretty soon, because GPU mining is all but dead at this point. It's no longer cost effective. Some people apparently don't realize this yet, but everybody will within the next 3-6 months. At that point, prices are going to fall through the floor as these guys try to get their money back en masse.
lol every time I'm at my local microcenter
what used to be talk about "what's the best card for this game "
is now "what 7 of this graffix card do I needs so I cans gets rich"
its still going strong the dummies thinking they can get rich quick mining
was in yesterday and 3 groups were asking the same stupid mining info
argggggg I want my cheap cards and memory back
I do like that microcenter has a policy 1 card normal price , 2 cards normal price , every one after double price lol

The AES shows no boot screen without a cart. The screen should be solid blue with no cart.
makes me love my mvs home setup even more lol at least the mvs tells you if its broken lol
seen lots of z80 error screens in my time as a arcade repair tech lol

got the v1 case up on thingiverse

right now is a really bad time for buying a card the bit miners are buying everything up , driving the price up
for a cheap card id look on ebay for a used gtx750 or 950 they should be in your price range
or even a ati r7x270 (should crossfire with the a10s gpu if I remember )

Seems interesting for $80, kind of like abc mouse but not totally strapped into an annoying web browser program. It appears only the older works with XP though they offer it still. Problem is the school my daughter goes to has certain tools and apps, so I kind of need to stick with the Tux programs, and also google as they made them google accounts with email attached too for when they're old enough to be responsible with it.
This is the paint, at the bottom links to the math and typing, also I totally blew over it and it does in fact have MacOS and Linux versions too.
supposed to be able to add any app into the magic desktop software but I have not figured it out yet (may need full version)

I see no reason to be mad about that, might as well get them started early with learning and learning to use a computer, and what better place than their own child safe detached desk space where they don't have a shot at doing damage on something you do care about. Pretty much how I felt about that netbook I found for $10. The RAM I ordered finally arrived today after them mailing the first time the wrong size. 1GB really does make the difference outside of the early avast install slogging it down until it calms down in time.
It's a great thing to have, and if that's a standard PC look into what her school recommended TuxPaint (which also has TuxMath and TuxTyping) that are three free programs that are super helpful. The first is like kids photoshop with much of the features, then a space invaders math blaster game, and the third is a cuter mavis beacon kind of thing.
I'm trying this right now seems pretty good and it locks the pc down http://www.magicdesktop.com/en-US
price tag for full version is a bit high

got it all setup in the playroom
17 inch elo touch screen
running a amd am1 cpu and asrock amb1-itx motherboard
also hooked up a nice sound bar behind it
ordered the matching keyboard (cant find the mouse)
just need to remove the original bezl and make one that fits the lcd screen right and it will be a sweet toy for the lil guys

Defender cocktail, eh?
yea lol it was empty (well did have power supply), it was being used as a table to hold the loose games at the store (lol so was the kick) since we opened 2 years ago
so I thought, why not (even tho empty its probably worth more than the vectrex ) I have some folding tables at the house taking up room I can put the games on anyway
and hopefully the defender will get a new life (it deserves to be more than a table lol )
this pic was from last year some time

Nice... I am in the market for one myself... It is quite lovely. Thanks for sharing
thanks
I had been toying with getting one, but the price always threw me off , mentioned it to the guy the day before and he showed up the next day with it lol
traded him an empty kick , and defender cocktail for it (also gave me the 3 astrocade games as well)
-
its really hard owing a video game store and also being a collector lol
one of my regulars traded this in today and its now in my collection urggggggg lol
in the past month I have had some really rare/expensive systems traded in and most are ending up in my personal collection the wife is starting to get mad
this one works great but no games guess off to feepay for a multicart (unless someone here sells them reasonable)

funny lol just dusted of my psp 2000 last night.
wanted to dump some games on to it that got traded in yesterday lol
(ps I even tho you have your psp hacked to play region free games I just found out it still will not play region free for music umd's or video umd's )
im the opposite of spacecadet
I hate the damn discs (feel the same way about ds games) to darn small and easy to misplace , I prefer a 128 gb sd card and then all my games are in one spot no need to carry anything but the system
if your looking to get one and hack it I recommend the 2000 version the 1000 sucks and the 3000 requires to run the hack every time you fully power down the system
-
sorry all have yet to get the universal one up on thingiverse
and have not done any more tinkering with the case
been a bit busy with work at the store and my down time has been focused on building my printer setup lol
one more enclosure to finish and one more printer to build
and then ill be set lol
I have also started messing around with meshmixer and its really helped to smooth out the designs and make them print much nicer

That's too bad; those kiosks look neat, & they're an important part of gaming history. It would've sad if they were all scrapped.
Nintendo does still have several in storage , there was some pics on famicom world of the Nintendo's climate controlled storage , and it was pretty sweet
