  1. When I try to use this command "set kernel_options player1colors playercolors pfheights background"

    and define "pfcolors:" all it does is shoot out this error:

    2600 Basic compilation failed!
    LINE -->  pfcolors:
    --VERBOSE ERROR MESSAGE --
    batari Basic v1.01dreveng38 (C)2005-2016
    (15): PFcolors kernel option not set
    
    

    So I tried adding pfcolors to the end and all I get is this:

    default.bas

    default.bas.bin


  2. I don't know is I'm in the right forum but...

    I was installing the SMPS Player mod for Sonic & knucles collections by the instructions (without the HQ mod) but all seems quiet but the sfx (when I switch back the .dlls it seems to play fine, so the sound is on).

     

    P.S. I would ask on "sonic retro" but its pointless to make a forum account just to ask one question (I've done it before and now I'm bocked out of the raspberry pi forums because I forgot my username and password).


  3. Your project and your needs. That being said, I'd rather have a "mario paint" interface that produces the same batari BASIC music code as what VisualbB does right now.

     

    Editing music in VisualbB is horrible (and yet the very best available.) No need to reinvent the wheel when you can build upon what everyone uses already.

     

    More features that use more precious CPU time don't really get me excited. Easy composition rocks my world. My opinion :)

    Mario piant style is a great idea, but if I did try somthing like that I would probably have to switch from just basic to something better (Not java).


  4. Haha neat idea, OP wants to make an XM accessory for the 2600. Melody pcbs may give you a run for your money in terms of competition. There isn't much else you can add to the 2600 besides Melody and Atarovox... :P

     

    A cheat device for Atari would be awesome though. I propse this pseudo Game Genie format:

     

     

    5-digit codes for 4k games:

     

    AAA:NN

     

    Hexidecimal address (up to 4kb of address space) plus a one byte value to replace it with.

     

    7-digit codes for bankswitched games:

     

    AAA:CC:NN

     

    Hexidecimal adress, check byte (replace with NN only if the value in ROM matches CC), replace byte.

     

    Fairly straightforward, just plug the cartridge into the Cheat device (like a Game Genie)

     

     

    Plus most of the notable games for it are found much more easily as standalone Camerica game carts and cheaper to collect in this format. So the Alladin deck enhancer was really just a failed marketing experiment. People still collect for it but there were only six games before it got canned iirc. I think only Big Nose Freak Out is rarer as a NES cart than as an Alladin cart. A couple of others not released as standalone NES carts can be found in the quattro 4-in-1 multicarts. There's three versions, Quattro Adventure, Quattro Arcade, and Quattro Sports.

    I've considered a cheat device, but I don't know a thing about hex nor do I have the inteligence to make such a thing.

    Most of the rest of your wish list is already satisfied by the existing Melody board games that have on-board ARM co-processor chips. Play Space Rocks, Medieval Mayhem or Stay Frosty 2 to see what can be accomplished with those.


  6. I'm thinking of making a better bB music tracker, one that gives the 2600 4 voice channels (I already know how to make that possible :grin:) but I don't know what software I could use to make a tracker (I google it and found nothing).

    Or we could make a device that just records and broadcasts the video signal and recives button input and that would be the server console. Then we could make a reciever console with no 2600 reqired that could show a list of server consoles available and send\recieve it's data.

It seems complicated, but I wonder if there could be hardware or a utility added to the Harmony cart that could send and receive controller information to/from your WiFi SD card, to the PC and then also a program that could send it to someone else's PC for playing online. I imagine the lag would be horrible simply due to the 2600's read/write speed. I know there is an underground network created for PlayStation 2 for online play after Sony shut the official one down, but the PS2 was already set up for it.
