About Me

I'm currently working on three projects. One Atari music app and two Atari 2600 games:

Atari 2600 Music Explorer: TIA Music Explorer: a Javascript web application designed for Atari 2600 musicians exploring the Atari audio palette. You can think of it as a live performance, visualization, and music theory tool intended for finding tuned notes, relative tunings, scales, and chords.

Black Jack Theta VIII (16k): a blackjack game. It started as an easy project to learn Atari 2600, but it has expanded way beyond "easy". I have recently uploaded a mostly complete version. The keyboard input is still in progress. I'm planning for my next update to be feature complete and ready for general beta testing (version 1.0.)

Battle for Proton (16k): a shoot-em up game. Proton began as an experimental kernel a year ago. I don't have the game mechanics figured out yet, but I was thinking it would have a few modes: surface defense, surface attack, and sky attack. It was converted from 4k to 16k, because my vision for the game is going to require a lot of ROM space.

In general, I want my games to fill the screen with detail and avoid flicker as much as possible. I also enjoy working with limited resources and the problem solving it requires.

My interests are in classic game consoles, microcomputers, and historical electronic computers. I'm mostly interested in playing Atari 2600 and NES games. I'm also interested in programming Atari 2600 and MS-DOS games. My fancy development environment is vim, git, and make. I use Cygwin (bash) and Windows CMD as my shells.

I'm remaking Atari 2600 Music Explorer to make it function more like a synthesizer to support live playing and recording. I'm also changing the name to TIA Music Explorer given the C&D discussions on a recent ZPH stream.

Progress is moving slowly, but I really hope to have something to show soon. I'm on my 3rd re-write due to trying to figure out what this application is going to be. I have yet to add back in the music theory components, so they are non-functional in the live version. You should consider it a very, very alpha development version.
