  1. "...meaning that games like Missile Commander..." That is so funny.
  2. All Switch: Layers of Fear Neonwall Pinball FX2 : Sorcerer's Lair
  3. I'm on the last boss at Doom. Having angst in that I don't want to keep trying to beat it, but I do want to finish the game. arggg.
  4. Here's another generalization, for what it's worth: Gamers who play video games for long enough eventually live to see the classics of their youth become the relics of yesteryear. Too many old favorites falter in the face of the medium's technological advancements, becoming almost painful to experience a mere generation or two later. Perhaps the worst part of seeing that process unfold is knowing there once was something special there, but time has erased much of its value and the game can never again have the appeal it once possessed. And: It is fun to revisit even today, unlike far too many of its contemporaries, http://www.honestgamers.com/13775/switch/arcade-archives-moon-patrol/review.html (Insert Flojomojo oldmanyellsatcloud.gif RECYCLED HATES YOUNGER GAMERS REVIEWING SACRED GAMES)
  5. I get tired of reading many reviews of recent 1980's arcade ports or modern takes on the games that, to me, belittle the genre. For example, most recently I was reading a review of Pac-Man Championship Edition for the Switch where the reviewer states "Arcade ports tend to be games we play in short bursts--mostly for the nostalgia factor." https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/pac-man-championship-edition-2-review/1900-6416518/ I totally disagree with this, I believe classic games transcend the "nostalgia" factor. Although, I am back to playing more "modern games" in my rotation these days, I still purchase and play the old ports when they are released. For the most part, the addictive score-chasing nature of those games is absent from most modern gaming. I'm not saying one is better than the other: I like to play both for variety. I could never just play modern games. There's a certain element that just isn't there. Thanks, just needed to vent.
  6. One way or the another, we will never be able to keep our media "forever."
  7. After I bought the Activision comp for the ps2 back in '05, I played nothing but 80s games for almost 13 years. If it came out after the CV, I considered it "modern." HA!! Over the last year, I really started wanting to play newer games again. It's been a nice change. Still playing the old stuff as well. That's were my heart is.

  9. Wow. I'm really behind the times. "Arcade-Style" is a selling point for me.
  10. That's funny. Had a neighbor like that too. So xmas of 1980 we got the VCS, they got the Intellivision. Wasn't pretty.
  11. Later part of 1982, I wanted a ColecoVision so frickin bad it was an obsession. I constantly stared at the 2 page ad in Electronic Games magazine. I believe I started saving for it, but never made it happen. Then sometime in 83, I lost interest for the most part. Except through the mid 80s, I'd go over to a friend's who had a Texas Instruments (I think) computer with some (illicit probably) classic games on disk. Which I enjoyed playing. Played tons of Gyruss on that thing.
  12. I assume it will be enhancements/improvements/additions to the 2600 and Genesis products. No other systems this year. i.e. INT and CV. Perhaps an sd card slot in the plug and plays in addition to the portables.
  13. Got our light-sixer xmas of 1980. Adventure looked really cool in those catalogs. Why I bought stuff like Home Run and Bowling instead of it at that time will remain an eternal mystery to me.
  14. Don't care what he says. He still owes me $30...and don't forget to adjust for inflation!
  15. Never mind. Finally defeated the thing. Glad that's over.
  16. Need some advice. I'm having trouble with the second phase of the Cyber Demon battle. The thing is, I'm wondering since I didn't collect most secrets and haven't completed any Ruin challenges (I thought I'd do thorough job, the second time through the game) if it would be best to start over and make sure to complete everything....if that would help to be more prepared for this stage of the game? Thanks in advance.
  17. Got AA Moon Patrol this evening. Must say it's a lot of fun. First time I've played it since the early 80s. Not including the 2600 version.
  18. Late on this....but very interesting. I believe Pac-Man was the last cent I ever gave to Atari as well. Lost total interest in the system after I ponied up the $30 for it. I got back into the 2600 after I bought the Activision comp for my PS2 back around 2005 and then bought a light sixer that my coworker had in her basement and played the tons of great games I missed.
  19. I think I was probably 13. I kept hounding the department stores...."Did you get Pac-Man yet?" Probably like so many kids at that time. The answer was always "no." So I quit trying. Then later some kid told me that his friend got it and "it's just like the "real" game except there's not a ball on the end of the joystick!" With that "review" I bought it ASAP. I found out it was NOT like the "real" game. I don't know what happened to that copy. I got a free one in box of games somebody gave me about 15 years ago.
  20. I'm still smarting from paying full price for Pac-Man. Probably didn't even play it an hour. (Just need to let that go already...HA!)
  21. Yep. Even when a friend of mine was all gung ho to go to the mall arcade to play the "new" Star Wars game....I was pretty much done at that point. I played it, but just went through the motions. Didn't give a second look to my 2600 by then as well, which is unfortunate, because many great games for it came out around then. Seems like I bought all the wrong games for it, then when Colecovision game out, which I wanted, but didn't get....I was like "Why bother?" I didn't pay attention to the NES at all, except I was intrigued that it looked like there was a good Donkey Kong port for it.
