Nintendo had net sales of nearly $11 billion last year, and as of last July was sitting on reserves of nearly $8 billion of sweet, liquid cash. "Atari" isn't even a fart in the wind to an actual gaming company. Nintendo is apparently the second most cash-rich company in Japan
-
Well, he's doubled down. Apparently Nintendo knows Atari's their daddy, and Microsoft and Sony are scared because Nintendo's scared. Seriously...why do so many backers seem to be mentally challenged and/or certifiably insane?
-
Are you kidding? There are actually people convinced that much of the negativity comes from people that are worried that Atari is a threat to their beloved Big Three. You can't make this stuff up.
-
The goal of investing generally isn't to lose money... If you want to show love of the product, send them a heartfelt greeting card or something.
-
I'm not angry, I just don't understand why you seem to enjoy being shit on. I mean we've all got our kinks, but still...
-
Is it some kind of millennial thing? It's as if they are proud to expect nothing and be treated like crap as consumers. Like the company is doing them some kind of favor, and not vice versa. It's baffling.

Hey, now there's a surprise.

In other news, Atari's market cap has dipped below $70 mil, and the stock is flirting with another 52-week low. The true believers might still have faith, but the market is clearly growing tired of Atari's BS.

Shitty press is earned, not asked for.

How did I miss this in the FAQ thread?
-
That doesn't count. Nor do these.

Those are just the empty boxes...I don't really keep stuff on display. The boxes are kept in Rubbermaid containers, and the carts are on a shelf/stand.

He's either an AI, or he's the guy that writes all the manuals for my Alibaba purchases.

One thing's for sure...Brandon's random bits of word salad have been some of the most entertaining things I've read. I'm still trying to find the modern Enigma device that deciphers this code.

Literally no one.

See, Lucas...this is why people point and laugh at your core group of diehards. Atari isn't a charitable organization, and they aren't my kid struggling with math. They're a company that's taken people's money, and are looking to earn more. They don't get credit for trying hard. There are no participation ribbons. They aren't doing this as a favor that anyone should be thankful for. They're a business. They aren't making a product for people to enjoy, they're making a product for people to purchase. To a rational, fully functioning adult, it doesn't matter how hard they're trying. All that should matter is the product, or lack thereof. Progress, or lack thereof. Communication, or lack thereof. A clearly defined market and path to success and support in such, or lack thereof. An image of honesty and integrity, or lack thereof. That you few can't seem to grasp this, or why even the Indiegogo page has turned into complaints, is why the zealots have been the butt of jokes since the beginning.

I see the market responded appropriately to this breathtaking development. Poor Fred. It seems no amount of silly licensing deals are going to push this stock anywhere. He really is stuck with it.
-
Yep. That sweet, sweet $600k was non-refundable. Whether these hotels sink or swim matters not one bit to "Atari."
-
It's the same business model they've been using for years...license the name out, putting forth the least possible effort. At some point, Atari is going to have to actually make new games that people actually give a crap about. Coincidentally, those are also conspicuously absent from the VCS. Eventually, the last of us with nostalgia for the brand will finally die off, and "Atari" isn't going to be able to keep cashing in on games that people with actual talent and vision created decades ago.
-
Likely because they're running out of unbanned pigeons.
-
Meh. Start banning people and we're no better than the Jonestown goofballs in the Supporters group.

I think you'll find that we generally haven't. I think you'll also find that we haven't ever told anyone what to do with their own money. I spend money on all kinds of dumb shit. The N-Gage was a good fit for some people. The WonderSwan was a good fit for some people. Yes, the VCS will probably be a good fit for some people. But for every one of you, there's a hapless schlub like Phelan or Christopher Wilson who's going to get dicked, hard, by this product. What we have done, is ask pointed questions of both Atari and its backers about the device, its viability in the market, its target audience, and the potential of its continued support. Atari has generally ignored them and banned the ones asking them (I was banned from their "official" subreddit for simply quoting their infamous "summer has just started!" nonsense, and that was after they had mod privileges revoked for censoring the main VCS sub) and backers (not that I'll name names here) have generally had LEAVE ME ALONE HATER-TROLL! meltdowns. We poke fun at the VCS's development..."Hey @ataribox this looks super awesome, can't wait to play!"...Atari delays the December 14, 2017 preorder "to create the platform and ecosystem the Atari community deserves"..."What's your Pong high score?"..."Asteroid"... "What happens if we plug this into our laptop, we ask Mike. I don't know, he says. Will it work? I don't know. If we plug it into a different games machine, will it work? No. So it's custom hardware and software? I don't know about that." How can you not have fun when the Keystone Cops of the videogame world are providing the entertainment? With all due respect, we nostalgic old farts aren't the ones having the hissy fits.

I still just don't see the market for this other than a tiny handful of superfans like Lucas that will apparently buy anything with the right logo. If you've been waiting your whole life for an Atari-branded Steambox, congratulations...your ship has apparently come in. The rest of the adult world will still need a convincing reason to buy it. I'm a fan of an old company called "Atari" because once upon a time, they were a fun, pioneering company that developed products we'd never seen before. I couldn't care less that a group of grave robbers snapped up the name and are still trying to squeeze money out of those same games 35-45 years later. If they were still making amazing games I'd probably still be a fan, but I promise you...no 8-year-old is gonna be excited to find a new VCS under the Christmas tree, and in 35 years, not a single soul is going to be reminiscing fondly over Asteroids: Outpost.
