  1. Just one dude's opinion and speculation and having friendly debates about said opinions and specualtion. I've quite enjoyed the replies as most people have been quite civil.
  2. I can tell you that is definitely not the norm. Sounds like fun though. Most Parents these days would rather have Phones/Tablets to babysit their kids, its unfortunate but a reality we can't ignore. You sound like a great Parent, so props on that.
  3. Maybe I simply like talking about new projects and discussing with people on forums? I bet if all my comments were talking about how amazing I thought the Amico was going to be you wouldn't mind. As long as people are being civil which I believe I have been then there shouldn't be a problem with debating and speculating. You don't have to take part in said debate, you can simply post about how excited you are about the product nobody is stopping you. I don't have a problem with people who are excited for this product. If you think its awesome, cool.
  4. Then it needs some truly compelling software for kids to even care about it. Amico would need to have a truely killer app, right now I don't see that killer app, hence my lack of optimism. The device itself means nothing without compelling software, but that is just common sense we all know.
  5. Yeah, let me clarify and say that I'm not saying I know for a fact it will or won't be a success, I'm just not very optimisitic given the information we have been given so far. I have stated that I look forward to seeing what games get announced in the future and depending on what happens from now until launch I might come to a complete opposite opinion of the device. Until then I don't see the harm in speculating.
  6. Yeah, I just try and ignore those types of reactions, I'd rather be the bigger guy and not throw insults just because someone said something I didn't agree with. I'd rather have a peaceful debate.
  7. I agree with you about the personal connection, but again its hard to convince someone to stop doing what they are use to and enjoy. My Niece has found some appreciation with retro gaming because I introduced her to it, but she's always going to prefer using her phone and tablet for most of her entertainment purposes and now that she's older she has even less interest in dedicated co-op gaming in the living room.
  8. I am aware of that, but again that doesn't guarantee success. 600 years of experience doesn't mean you can't still have bad ideas or judge the market wrong, again look at Nintendo's mistakes.
  9. I never said Amico was going to fail miserably. I don't know how many units Tommy needs to sell in order for him to consider it a success. If he's expecting to sell millions of these then yeah I think it will be a flop, but if he's just planning to sell in the thousands then yeah he might find some success. He hasn't and most likely won't give us that kind of information, so its just a guessing game.
  10. Kids these days are less about actually doing things in person. They are happy just texting each other, sending each other funny memes and having a go on some online multiplayer matches. If thats what makes them happy then I don't see a problem. If they decide they want to play co-op in the living room together well they already have options available to them.
  11. Did I say that, no, so stop putting words in my mouth. Having said that do you automatically assume Tommy is an expert in selling consoles because he made video game music back in the 90s? Its one thing to write some kick ass music for a game and another to release a home console. Shoot with all the success Nintendo has had through the years they still released plenty of flops, just look at the Wii U and Virtual Boy.
  12. My point exactly. I personally don't think its a horrible thing that kids would prefer to play by themselves or with their friends online. That is just what is popular these days.
  13. I never said I was an expert and that I know more than anyone else here. I'm simply going by my own experiences and what research I've done. I do my best to stay in touch with the current trends of gaming. I try and investigate what devices people like to pay video games on, why they do and what type of content they tend to buy/download on said platform.
  14. Yeah I don't get this notion that Switch is just geared towards core gamers. Plenty of games that anyone can pick up and play.
  15. That sounds like a you problem. I'm having reasonable conversations with people here about this project. If you don't like my comments then simply ignore them, not that hard.
  16. If we are talking $60 game purchases then don't forget RDR2 and Call of Duty franchise. Both of those sold incredibly well too. Its pretty obvious why families stopped playing together in a big way and that is thanks to the internet. Why play with your Mom or Dad who likely suck at video games when you can compete with your friends online who know what they are doing? Tommy acts like playing with your family is objectively superior than playing online with your buddies. I'm not saying the latter is objectively superior, but clearly its the most popular. Kids/Teens today aren't exactly yearning to play video games with their "lame" parents. Also, nobody brings up the fact that back in the 80's/90's you would be lucky to have more than one TV in the house, now its not uncommon for almost every bedroom to have its own TV. Most kids these days are no longer forced to have to wait until Dad is done watching his football game to play video games, after they get home from school they go straight to their bedrooms and play whatever online multiplayer game is popular at the time.
  17. Yes it matters to some people, so I guess the debate is how big of a market it really is. IDK, I think anyone who really cares owns a Switch which offers some great couch co-op play.
  18. Yes there is overlap, but you can't just say "Board games are up 40% ergo people want more couch co-op play for video games." It doesn't work that way.
  19. I will say this I bet Amico gets released before the Atari POS.
  20. You say you want to see families having more fun together in the living room and that board games have risen 40% in popularity in the past 5 yrs, so why not get in the board game business? The only foul language you'll get out of a board game is from frustrated players lol. The controls are super simple too.
  21. Wait, you are using the popularity of board games as evidence that there is potentially a huge market looking to play video games together in the living room? I personally wouldn't connect the two as I think board games have their own appeal outside video games. You can love board games and have absolutely no interest in any kind of video game.
  22. Then buy a preconfigured RetroPie if you don't want to set it up yourself. Lots of preconfigured retropies available to purchase.
  23. No offense Tommy but you have't provided any data or evidence to back your claim that mobile isn't catering to casuals. This sounds more like why you personally don't like mobile games and how you would like to improve it, because I'm not hearing all these uber casuals crying out for something else than what mobile is offering them. Mobile offers convienence, free/cheap games and a variety of content. Yes there is tons of crap content people have to skim through, but software reviews help and word of mouth. Also, mobile controls are good enough for the type of games people end up playing on them anyways. You don't need amazing controls to play matching games.
  24. So wait you can play them on the go? I wasn't assuming you could, it was more of asking for confirmation statement. If true then thats cool.
