  1. It's been a while since I've fired up the demo. It seems to be pretty bullet-proof. Were there ever any bugs reported for it in all these years?

One thing I noticed, which I know isn't a bug, is when the menus are used for an extended period of time -- with a Profiler (or Profilers) open -- the Monitor data seems to be cached in the background, and subsequently updated once the menus are exited and screen updates resume. However, I don't see this same behavior when holding down a scrollbar or dragging a window for an extended period of time; but rather the screen updates on the Monitor would just continue as if nothing (except a moment of high CPU usage) had occurred. No big deal, but it gets me wondering; was halting all screen updates the end point for such actions, or was there some outlook for getting screen updates active? I can't remember what might have already been discussed, since it's been so long.

  2. Maybe the Black Box would be more accommodating if it lived in a full enclosure that connected to the PBI/ECI using a cable -- similar to an ATR8000 or MIO. I think a lot of people used ATR8000's as monitor stands in their setups; I'm not sure if MIO's were used similarly.

    Improvements

    Protagonist hit sound
I see the protagonist's plane will change colors momentarily when shot by an enemy; but it would be nice to have some sort of sound effect for it too. The reason I say this is that my focus is most often on the enemies and other objects coming up ahead; so, I'm not always sure when I've been hit or not; and it takes away from my focus if I have to continually look up at the health meter to see where I'm at.

I'll add to this that there should be a sound when the enemies are hit too.

Actually it was @Mathy who owns a Floppyboard. Except for the first 2 characters in our names, we do not have anything in common... so I don't understand the mix-up haha.

Wait, aren't you both from the Netherlands? And of course you both own Black Boxes. Hmmm...

No it is not me on ebay. I would NEVER part with a blackbox. In fact, I am trying to see whether I could move back to it, since I have many fond memories of using it.

To be honest, I didn't really think you would be selling either; but who knows. I was thinking maybe you decided that you weren't using it enough to justify holding onto it, and better to let someone else have it who might use it more. So, I thought maybe this might be the end of your contemplating about whether to start using it again or not.

I am SHOCKED though to see that it has zero bids. I was always under the impression that when I would need money BADLY I simply could sell one of my BlackBox to convert it into a big bag of gold.

I'm shocked too. It's quite a decent starting bid for such a rare and desirable piece of kit; and I don't think they often include the floppy board when they actually do come up for sale. I'm pretty sure the auction would be going differently if it were up for sale here in the U.S. for that price. I will say that I prefer to see them cased; although, I'm not sure how well that works out with the floppy board in there.

Another weird part is where it is definitely given that SID sounds muffled and limited in higher sounds.

15kHz is aiming the "deep" sounds, but for what?

In 64kHz clocking, the melodic part is given. It doesn't sound muffled at all, which shouldn't be any "bad".

Not sure, if the notation is 100% SID, but the melodic part is clearly there... using some trickery with the polycounter bass, makes it sound like a modulation bass...   So , it's suffficient...

That's an improvement on the bass; sounds more stable.

    Not that bad observation.

It actually is a method to tune the very low resolution, to get one octave higher. Without that you'd get some yelling, totally out of tune sounding.

Shall I do a version without the correction?

It's still pretty out of tune in various places.

Something interesting happened. Note that I did not win the auction.

As soon as the auction ended, the seller contact me. I had not win the Auction. He said that the buyer did not want to pay shipping (I do think the shipping is a bit high to be honest). This sounded suspicious to me. I wonder if this is possible but maybe he had another account to bid and increase the price? I'm not sure if eBay monitors this.

I purchased something after I lost, so I told the seller that he can feel free to relisted. He said he will relisted for buy now 500 + shipping. But the winner won for 591 + shipping. So, if he is willing to bring it down to 500, I wonder why he would not find a way to fix this with the buyer. Of course, I do think that is bad that a buyer does not stand by his/her word. However, this seems to me a bit strange.

I sold some stuff in eBay years ago (maybe like 15 years ago). So, I'm not sure if this is common or not.

All that stuff isn't worth more than $350 (if that) anyway.

The DVI is just hanging off the back, not even decently installed; and that thing has an ingot, which makes "as is" sound like a potential buyer's risk.

...but this Black Box has a floppy board upgrade, so that PCB stacked on top might have interfered with an enclosure...

That's the first thought that came to my mind.

Maybe @Marius can speak up about it, as I'm pretty sure he owned a floppy board with his. Actually, maybe @Marius is the one selling here. ;)

Probably people not really in the know who find this stuff in an attic and think "if it was stored close together and fits together it might work together", not contradicting mytek's explanation.

Yeah, still pretty stupid, but probably the kindest explanation one could give for such folly.
