I like this last one the best so far. It seems to have the best blending of the voices together.
The only suggestion I would have at this point is to see how it sounds with the bass volume lowered some. The bass seems to walk over the top of the other voices with the volume set the way it is right now.
BTW, just to be clear here, I have absolutely no recollection of what the original on SID is suppose to sound like. I haven't listened to it with any real attention before. I'm just taking these Atari versions here at face value.

This seems to be better...
Sounds good too; but I prefer the first rendition. It sounds smoother and I especially like the smoothness of the main melody instrument used there.

Apparently Rory McMahon was kind enough to send this to me way back in 2005. We also discussed the disks. He was going to check and see if he had them in with his boxed Amdek III, but it doesn't look like either of us ever followed up on that.
Back to rooting.....coming across all kinds of stuff I'd forgotten about!
Sounds like an interesting adventure. Thanks for taking the time to look into it.

I suppose so -- if drpeter is correct in his assessment; but apparently it's not included in the auction (which is part of the reason I made my initial assumption).

It may be related to the order of closing the intial two instances, I am not sure.
I'm pretty sure it would be related to the order of closing. I use several instances often; So, I'm careful (most times) to close the right one last in order to preserve any settings I might want to.

I think you may be right. In which case, disregard item #2 in my list above.

Can't see the point of installing a separate switch for an alternate power source. Who would want to be able to use either of two different PSUs?
It's not an obvious mod to me either; and yeah, I thought about the possibility that the power supply just happens to be included. In fact, the first thing that came to mind was video output, until i saw the power supply there. I was gonna count pins on the DIN, but it's a bit hard to see in that shot.

Yeah, with the machine being modded in other ways, there's a good chance there's more RAM inside too; since that's one of the things a 400 begs for...

Wow, I missed this, and the other posts about John Harris' disks. Nice looking Bagman-type clone. Too bad it wasn't finished. I wonder if Fandal plans to work on it more?

Haha... ok, glad I alerted you in the appropriate season.
Thanks for the board pictures and ROM dump, btw.

A few things to note here.
1. The B-Key is worth good money on it's own.
2. The machine has been modified to accept standard XL/XE power supplies (added DIN connector, and been given its own power switch).
3. The chosen, specific XL/XE power supply unit laying next to the machine appears to be an "Ingot" (often the kiss of death for a perfectly good, working machine).

Ever have any luck coming up with the manual for your Amdek?

Ah, yeah, I forgot to mention that one. I'm not really interested in the game, so it kinda slipped past me (even though I had it here in my files already).

The original version was done on the 8-bit computers; so it's available -- although as a cartridge ROM rather than XEX. However, a cut-down version is available in XEX (minus the splash and arcade info screens).

What's different about this version?

Already available as an XEX on Homesoft's site.

Apparently you have to join ABBUC in order to get this still.
36 minutes ago, BIGHMW said:Venture
This is a game being sold on cartridge by Video 61. Therefore, there won't be any XEX version.

What's unfinished about the 8-bit computer version?

The VBXE + extended memory (U1MB in most cases) crowd would offer a much bigger target audience.

Nice assortment of labels; but the resolution of these that you've posted isn't very sufficient for decent printout.

Yes, I have these two:
Spelunker [Switchable XEGS].rom
Spy vs Spy I [Switchable XEGS].rom
And then I have this archive with 11 Switchable XEGS Multi-Carts (which come from Raster/C.P.U.):

I was only 16 or 17 and had little in the way of income, but I sent them the 79.00? pre-order right then and there. I got one of the first carts off the line. When I finally got the thing in hand, some months later, I was astonished to see how well-done the manual was. Last thing I expected. I read the thing cover-to-cover, probably several times. SDX was better than I could have DREAMED when I read the advert. And it is still going strong. Fat16 support!, all kinds of groovy stuff. God Bless ICD and the coders who worked there, and God bless the folks at the Spartados Upgrade Project (Drac030?).
The main idea behind my website was to showcase OSS and ICD products. The concept won't be complete until I finish my hardware-based site, though.

However, when you have a dos like SDX, that uses Axlon ram to move itself into, that makes a big difference in compatibility with such software.
SDX is an amazing piece of ware.

Nothing special
in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Posted · Edited by MrFish
I agree that the bass is the weakest voice here. Why not go with a more traditional bass instrument, and/or use a volume envelope (as shown below) that will prevent the bass from being such a continuous sound (so as not to overpower the other voices so much)?
So, something more like this -- for example (for the bass volume envelope),...
...rather than this, which is what's currently being used (although maybe you've already edited it some in your version).
