Did you click up Miker's post that points to Fandal's site? It claims there are over 900 songs in the collection... BTW, I think they sound great also... and the piano makes it even better.

That's really annoying that any company would release a game that they didn't test to see if it can be completed... should be a way to sue for damages, or something, for that... damn rip-off artists!

Why do people still want and/or use old computers?
MrFish replied to Rev's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Why do you say it's a "non-gaming" computer? The Atari 8-bit is every bit (pun there) a gaming console, and then more. As a matter of fact, many people use them solely as a console. I guess the keyboard can just be considered a large multi-function controller at that point. -
You know this is funny because I've been thinking of starting a similar thread for a long time. I also have a hard time loving the 7800. Although, I actually enjoyed it when I was younger. I grew up during NES era so the NES was my first console. Afterward I discovered my sister's 2600 and I became hooked on that. Sometime in the mid-90s, Radio Shack starting selling Atari games so when I learned that there was another Atari system - the 7800 - I jumped on it. At the time I was impressed with the 7800 because I never knew that there was an Atari system with NES-like graphics. So to me the 7800 was impressive. By then the 7800 was already an old console since this was well into the 16-bit era, so I no longer had my NES hooked up to compare it to. I was just impressed that there was an Atari system with that level of 8-bit graphics. I had Pole Position II, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Karateka (which I actually liked at the time), and the last game I bought was Scrapyard Dog which completely blew me away with its Super Mario-like game play. Fast forward to now, I'm struggling to love the unit. I even shelled out a considerable amount of money to get it repaired, got a bunch of games for it, including a homebrew, and still it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Like there's something missing. When I play 2600 games on it, I have a great time and walk away happy. Even when I play the 5200 with all its flaws and horrible controllers, I still walk away amazed. The 7800 doesn't seem to do that for me and I'm wondering if there's any way around that. The main thing that is missing is the sound/music, especially for someone who is used to an NES. Some games do a great job with TIA, but there is no downplaying the importance of a system from this era needing great music and sound effects. Graphics can only take the "experience" so far. Commando is the best the system has to offer in this regard. I love a lot of the games on this system, but I cannot get over the sounds after having been spoiled on Atari 8-bits. However, I still like the system quite a bit because I know it has the capabilities to do better.

Good that you have a chance to get back at this project again. I would be very interested to have a tool like this. Looks like you have plans for most of the features I can think of off the top of my head. A few that come to mind, that I didn't hear mentioned are: 1. Grid, or grid option, for editing pixels of a character. 2. Saving and loading of brushes. 3. Editing pixels of a brush. 4. Editable brush sizes. 5. Grid for brushes (broken down by character). As far as implementing a zooming mode goes, it's always good to have as many levels of zooming possible for working on pixel creations. Best of success on the project...

Which are you talking about? Crownland was completed, and a very decent game. The SM3 clone made it to the point of a demo with movable Mario sprite (non-animated) and multiple levels to view.

The Holmes Archive has a few of them on CD #3 (nowhere near a complete collection though)... if you search this forum, you'll find a torrent of Holmes, which might still be active (or not). Thanks, I have the Holmes collection, I'll look in there. But, I'm really after something that is complete. Makes it easier when you find something that you want to check out while browsing the mags.

Is there any place to get disks of the type-ins for the Atari stuff?

Tempest Xtreem Now Order Page from Video 61
MrFish replied to Kjmann's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I do Apologize Marius and to anyone else. I was just trying to clear up the Confusion with the cases so that people would know what they are buying. I was in the military at one time and I do come off a bit abrasive Sometimes. =) I will try to be a little less Short with people in the future. although I really don't like someone asking me to give the game to them (which is what releasing the ROM image for the EMU's would basically do) when we just spent the better part of 2 years developing the game. So maybe I was just a bit irritated when asked about that. Although part of what led to that is the fact that I have stated in at least 2 different posts in the past that we would not be releasing this in any other form except a real cart. So, once again I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by me short language at times. =) It's not personal just a Flaw with the way I come off when typing. I sound a lot different in person or on the phone. But I'm sure we all do.. lol Yea... I find people are a little too quick to jump to conclusions about what someone has said in a post without affording some space for understanding the shortcomings of communicating with text/smileys only. If we all attempted to ensure that everyone understood exactly what we meant every time we posted something, our posts would each be so long and consume so much time to type that everything would move at a "snail's pace". The things that we are so used to in face-to-face communications are not possible here (facial expressions, voice inflection, body language... ). Additionally, we are communicating with some natural language barriers. So, keeping some of these things in mind before typing emotional posts, and giving ample time for statement clarification, can go a long way. (end of "2 cents worth") -
It would be nice if there was a single place on the web to view/download Powrooz's graphic work. Really excellent quality. The demo was cool too. Nice work all around.

Thanks! I use it. Nice tool.

Looks like a very promising emulator to me. Keep up the good work, man.

The LucasFilm titles I never actually housed over on the AtariMax site . I should rectify that. So far, I think this list covers the titles done: Mysterious Adventures Scott Adams Adventures World Karate Championship BMX Simulator, Grand Prix Simulator & Red Max Head Over Heels Gauntlet After this work, floating around is a test image with the 3 Zork's on. I've been very lazy in not extending the load/save code of these games to store the save points to the flash memory. One day I will though A couple of other title that I progressed and left hanging and need completing are these: 1) Winter Olympiad 88 - the fun with this game is that the load chaining is done with a series of soft-resets! However this would be a 'do-able' port which wouldn't ask for disk swaps and again could benefit from a high-score save to cart. 2) Seven Cities of Gold - never played this myself until it was requested as a good game to port to cart. However due to the way it works, generating the 'world' data to disk, means that map data has to be saved to cart instead. Different from when a disk re-writes a sector, the flash memory needs re-setting first, but on the cart a flash bank is large (e.g. 8K) and so this needs more analysis to check how the writing is done. Perhaps a multi-disk adventure like Dallas Quest or Dark Crystal would be nice too, e.g. dropping the disk swapping messages. Thanks for the remark, Mark Thanks Mark. I noticed some of the projects have a disk for flashing and an emulator rom, and some have only the disk for flashing. I don't actually have an atarimax flashcart. Is it possible to create an emulator rom using the disk only?
-
Reminder: It is possible to put this onto a cart, see Here. Also The Eidolon. Mark, any other cartridge conversions? I have your Gauntlet one already. These are really nice to have. Thanks.

Your image is probably fine. You need to have some kind of DOS on the disk in order to boot from it. You should be able to boot from a DOS image and then just load the file from the image you created.

Anyone think Ballblazer is possible on the 2600?
MrFish replied to Segataritensoftii's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I just went through this thread and downloaded all the binaries. It's amazing how this thing came together. As one not being totally familiar with the 2600's capabilities, I have a question. Is it possible for the areas outside the checkerboard to be solid colors? I think the sky and boarder areas looked better solid... -
I don't think Galaxian "sucks". I can think of plenty of games that are worse. It sounds like your "annoyance" is based more on the fact that you thought you were getting Galaga. Isn't that your own fault? Galaxian is a decent port of the game that it is supposed to be, Galaxian. Well I'll answer exactly as I would have at age 8....no Galaxian sucks!!. Of course as an 8 year old I had made a mistake....but Galaxian in any incarnation is a poor mans Galaga, it's like American Beer*....it resembles something familiar, but its just not quite right. A little weak in the delivery. You have your analogy in the wrong chronological order. American Beer came later than it's European predecessor, but Galaxian did not come after Galaga. That's like saying Space Invaders is a "poor mans" Galaxian.

No need to, you can load it directly. Atari810 (which is the program I use) doesn't seem to like XEX files. I need them in ATR format. Tempest It's a fairly trivial thing to put a binary on an ATR. There are several Windows based apps out there. There are a couple of DOS based ones that do fine also. Ok then, can someone point one of them out to me? Tempest Here's a windows based one: MakeATR.zip You can also move files from your PC to floppy images using the "H:" device in Atari800Win PLus, etc.

I'm picturing this in my head, and it looks bad. LOL! -
I think you're looking for something like this: PitfallJones' Atari 8-bit Cartridge List I'm not sure how complete it is. However, "ponderosa" got all except "Beef Drop" according to the list.
