@ spookt: Thanks a lot for scanning the manual! I'd never heard of this language before. I assumed I had the disk for it, but alas not to be. Good to see that the program has been cracked already. I didn't catch the thread about that being done before either. The language looks great. On first review, it looks to be much better than Turbo-BASIC XL. No line numbers, PMG Library, Assembly functions, better constructs/functionality, etc. @ Tickled_Pink: In the PL65 Cracked thread, the author of the language claims to have written a defragmenter for the executables. Unfortunately he says, "God knows if you would ever find this". BTW: Now I know why you said, "I can't vote. My primary language has never been any of those." in the Programming Languages Poll. I thought you were making a joke, as I had assumed I hadn't forgotten any major languages (arrogant). You may soon have more company in your language choice.

Well I'm not sure of any that required 128Kb but there was a few that used it if available Bop'n'Wrestle... Oddly enough, this game qualifies as one of the worst games available for the A8's during this time period.
-
I guess that is what I am asking/saying. I don't think a single game required the 130xe and I'd also like to see a list of the "more than 48K" titles from back in the day. Here is the list of 64k ONLY CARTS available from Video61. Unfortunately they do not list the memory requirements for their available disk-based games also. Obviously this list is not complete, but at least shows that there are a fair number of games in the 64k only category: 1. AIRBALL 2. ARKANOID 3. ACE OF ACES 4. COMMANDO 5. CROSSBOW 6. CHOPLIFTER 7. CONCENTRATION 8. CRIME BUSTERS 9. DAVIDS' MIDNIGHT MAGIC 2 10. DEFLECTOR 11. DAVIDS MIDNIGHT MAGIC 12. DINKY DO 13. DARK CHAMBERS 14. DYNAKILLERS 15. DROP ZONE 16. FOOD FIGHT 17. FIGHT NIGHT 18. GATO 19. GETAWAY 20. HARDBALL 21. INTO THE EAGLES NEST 22. JINX 23. JURASSIC PARK 2 24. JAILBREAK 25. KARATAKA 26. LODE RUNNER 27. MONTANA SOLITAIRE CARD GAME 28. MYJONG 29. MR. ROBOT 30. MONOPOLY 31. MAHJONG 32. MONSTER HUNT 2 33. ONE ON ONE BASKETBALL 34. PREPPIE 35. RICOCHET 36. SHARP SHOOTERS 37. SUMMER GAMES 38. TETRIS II 39. TOWER TOPPLER 40. VIDEO SLOTS 41. XENOPHOBE 42. ZYBEX

You're already there dude...

here's the 8-bit decathlon manual. should be the same.

Dang, that's hard-core right there. I probably would have done it too, if I had been interested in programming before getting the machine. Luckily, I became interested after we had already gotten a cassette, and damned glad when it (cassette) was retired not too long afterward. Ahhh, the joy of getting your first disk drive(s) (a pair of 1050's for me). Man, was I happy...

I don't think it was a waste. having the extra memory insured that you could run anything that was released, and if you did any development it opened up plenty of options for you. Severely underutilized, yes. But, you can't blame the software makers for wanting to get to the largest audience. As far as the 130xe goes, the available software was almost nil that took advantage of it. I don't know if there was even a single game. It would be interesting to see a list of games that required more than 48k from back in the day.

Nice site. Cool to browse all these on a single page. It would be good to have an option to view carts by cartridge type/style. That way you could see all the XE style carts together, etc. Also, titles would help for screenshots.

What do you mean by "an Atari 8-bit"? A 48k machine? For games, 48k gets a lot, 64k gets most, 128k gets more, 320k gets all. "Bomb Jack" (320k right now) is slated to work on a 65xe. So, that will shrink the already small over-128k list. I'm not sure how much ram "Space Harrier XE" is planned to run on... A lot of the 128k games are only cartridge -> executable conversions. It would depend on how you would like to run some of these games as to whether you need 128k of ram. If you plan on buying cartridges for these, then you don't need it. If you're going the SIO2PC route, then you need it.

Original "Sweet 16" Atari 1000 PCB found...
MrFish replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
My prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery Curt. Hope to hear a good word here from you soon. -
Sweet! I like the thumbnail view.. I do everything with text only so I had not viewed it like that.. You can adjust the thumbnail size in TweakUI. I changed mine to 160 pixels (normally 96). Even better for browsing issues , plus allows you to see the full filename, for long names, without single-clicking:

Just got mine today. Awesome package. Here's a disk directory in WinXP of the issues: Thanks ThumpNugget for putting this together. It's a great service to the Atari community.

What we should call "the pinnacle of 8-bit shooters" then? Good question. Maybe the beginnings of a new VS thread. I seriously doubt there is any one game that you could say that about. That's why I'm criticizing your statement about "beating all 2D scrolling shooters...". Besides, 2D scrolling shooters are different games altogether.
-
This is a bug in "Revision B" of Atari BASIC only. Nothing to do with the emulator. Use "Revision C" and you won't have to worry about it.
-
A lot of nice graphic elements. Star Raiders (I) has better playability. "This game beat all the 2D scrolling shooters for his quality"? I guess you're speaking of C64 2D shooters. I don't think you can take down all the C64's 2D shooters with one polished but overall average action pseudo 3D game... The Atari version is better, but I certainly wouldn't call this the pinnacle of all 8-bit shooters.

Nice stuff!
