  1. Karateka. The graphics were nearly identical. However, the audio was done much better on the Atari. The music sounded better, and the sound effects sounded much more believable. Everything sounded more powerful on the Atari. I was unimpressed playing the c64 version after playing the Atari version. The c64 version seems "wimpy" because of how the msx/sfx were done.
  2. Ataris will NEVER become extinct!
  3. Here's a good utility for displaying codec information on files/containers, and also your windows system: GSpot
  4. Finishing the game (L18) with only 334 points would be even harder than getting more than 20000 points. But your point is the reason, why I ask for a patch. Next time I will record a session on video, so nobody can doubt me. Until then just try to beat my lower score: You, sir, are abusive to animals, sir.
  5. Thank you for that. But I need another fix now, because I made 20334 points. No joke! This is what it looks like: And that what was far beyond from being a "perfect" play, I´m sure I can get even more points. Played on an original, unmodified Atari 800 XL (PAL). Greetings from Germany, Sascha I think you just got a score of "334"... hahaha
  6. Very fun game. Much encouragement for completion. You guys rock!
  7. Yes, interesting, although when turning clockwise (from overhead view) it exibits frames crossing over each other. Like in some Escher artwork. Which is interesting also. Helicoid animation is good too.
  8. One thing is that new games are being developed for the system continually. Check out 2008 from Atarimania (incomplete list), and work your way backward. There are also some projects that have been in the works for quite a while that are highly anticipated (Space Harrier XE, check out movies and older playable demo). Also, some well known prototypes are planned for future release (Sinistar and Cloak & Daggar).
  9. Yea, I see it does color cycle after all. Doesn't really seem to solve the problem... Anyway, thanks for the teaser video... can't wait to see the finished product.
  10. - player cell highlighting? Well I'm not a coder, so I don't know what that is. - "avoid the spikes" in central area, where the eyes of the person playing are Sorry, No. It's a multiplexed screen divided into 6 sections I think and the special tempest font only works in the graphics mode that is at the top of the screen for the scoreboard. @ Cell Highlighting: I'm speaking of highlighting the current cell on the playing grid that is occupied by the player (I.E.: standard tempest, and maybe other versions also). @ "Avoid The Spikes": I would think you could just use a suitable "playfield" color. Alternately, the current method could use blinking/flashing for the text. Something to catch the players eye, as I currently don't notice it when involved in playing the game.
  11. suggestions/questions ------------------------- - player cell highlighting? - "avoid the spikes" in central area, where the eyes of the person playing are - optional mode with more sound effects (no music)
  12. It looks great... but, is there some way this could possibly be put on a breadboard. Nothing seems right without one these days.
  13. ah, better... i will download from here too
  14. bump! for those who didn't see before.
  15. Thanks for the last 2 pages. I have separated, rotated, cleaned up, and PDF'ed for convenience. Star Raiders II - Manual Thanks again to rayik. Enjoy.
  16. Bump! To see if we can get closer to 75 votes. If not, maybe it's time to move (after over two and a half years).
  17. Here's a "SAP" of the 8-bit version: Ballblazer.zipSpeed is for 50hz/PAL, so slow for all those used to hearing on NTSC. I believe there was also at least one other distinct version out there somewhere. Although it's been too long since I last compared versions to point you to it.
  18. Actually, I find most demos altogether boring. I have very few demos in my collection. I prefer to collect music and artwork. If someone wants to show off a new technique on a machine, I would rather see a demo which demonstrates that specifically.
  19. What emulator are you using? Everything seems to be working fine for me in Atari800Win PLus.
  20. I agree, there's is no way to tell the box size by examining the scan directly. But, based on your statement about the larger boxes being older... it looks like the larger boxes on Centipede, for instance, say "400/800", and the later ones do not. The later ones have a sticker saying works on XL/XE, etc. So, you could browse Atarimanias cartridge list and check for these signs on the scans to gather information. I don't believe Atarimanias scans are complete, but it may provide a fair amount of info for filling in some of the gaps in your information. You may also want to post some questions on Atarimania's forum, as I'm sure they would be happy to provide you with any information they have on the subject.
  21. There are box scans here on Atariage, in the 8-bit Cartridge section. I'm not sure how complete it is. Also you can find many box scans on Atarimania.
  22. I thought Rushmore and Paris were quite good. Anyway, just curious.
  23. I don't see any new backgrounds in the game. Do I have to go to higher levels? I have been as high as 12, so far. Was this concept abandoned?
  24. Interesting group of entries this year. Allas, it seems you are moving up the list every year. Maybe you will take first soon. Hardware contest is very interesting also.
