Thanks for the scan... much appreciated. Did you scan pages 10 & 11? They weren't included here.

@Heaven: Ah, yes, I'm familiar with the "Voice of Silence" series. Greg definitely has solid Pokey sequencing skills. However, I must confess that I still give preference to X-Ray. X-Ray has better compositional style, and melodies. He also makes really good use of pitch bending and echo effects. @Pseudografx & Raster: Thanks for directing me back to the SAP archive. I had previously thought this was solely devoted to culling tunes from a-8 games, etc. Nice to find many tunes from Greg, X-Ray, and many others. However, I noticed that some tunes such as: Boremloza (Numen) and Typewriter (Total Daze), were not in "stereo" form here. Anywhere to obtain these in original form?

Where can I hear some of Greg's tracks Heaven? I'm not sure if I've ever heard any before.

Here's some 8-bit documentation: DOCUMENTATION FOR THE LAST STARFIGHTER COURTESY OF THE LEPPARD After the title screen you start out in your starfighter orbiting the planet rylos. Your mission is to destroy all of the Ko-Dan squadrons while keeping them from breaking through the frontier and destroying your cities. Your starfighter has many important instruments. In the center of you panel is your scanner for locating enemy ships and enemy bases. Directly to the left of your scanner are two vertical bars which are your laser heat indicators. If your lasers overheat from extended use they will not function properly. Just stop firing for a couple seconds and they will cool down quickly. To the left of those are two boxes which mean nothing. Above those though is your energy bar. When you become low on energy an alert will sound and you will have to go to the sun to recharge your batteries. Also go to the sun if you need repairs or more bombs. To the left of the boxes are two vertical rows of dots which indicate your amount of bombs remaining. To the left of these are three boxes that light up. These tell you which weapon you are currently using. The top box corresponds to lasers, the middle to torpedoes, and the bottom for bombs. All the instruments to the right of your scanner mean nothing. At the start of the game your barrier around the solar system will be attacked. You must press the space bar to see your galactic map. Look for a blinking square on the outermost ring. Set your course and warp there by pressing the button. Quickly shoot the ships that are breaking in. If they do break in, destroy them before they can attack the planets or else they will have a chance to destroy your cities. After you have the situation in control, you must destroy their bases so they cannot send anymore squadrons. Go to the galactic map and plot a course for their solar system which is in the top left corner. You will need to use your bombs to destroy their bases. To change to bombs hit any of the console keys (START, SELECT, OPTION). In the squadrons there are fighters and destroyers. The computer will change between the weapons needed (LASERS OR TORPEDOS) automatically. Use the ESC key to pause the game and press START and SELECT simultaneously to start over. When you have defeated the entire armada you won! GOOD LUCK!

Good news. - It is not that the music itself is bad, but for my taste it is to far away from the theme of the game: Actually, I find the music by itself to be very good. But, I would have to say after listening to it serveral times with the game playing I tend to agree with irgendwer. I don't know what the original music was like, or if it even had any... but, it would be more suitable to have something a little more malevolent. Castlevania or Ghosts & Goblins style tunes would work well, obviously. Anyway, just my opinion... either way I'll be happy to have the game for the Atari. Thanks to those working on it.

How many levels does this have?

A VGA converter that works with the atari 8-bit!
MrFish replied to puppetmark's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That's a good idea. You can also use a KVM switch. -
I recently purchased a "monitor output" to "s-video" cable for my 65xe on eBay from atarimorestore. I am getting vertical lines across the entire image, and wondered if anyone knows why this is? I am running the s-video into my computer's tv card (DVICO FusionHDTV II, with latest drivers). I have tried all possible adjustments through software. The only adjustment that removes the lines is turning the saturation all the way down. Of course, this results in a black & white tv look (nice, if you like true retro ) What is the most likely cause (65xe, s-video cable, tv tuner card)? Any help would be most appreciated.

which games are exclusive to 5200 and dont exist on 8 bits?
MrFish replied to lucifershalo's topic in Atari 5200
"Kangaroo" was actually released on the 8-bits before being released on the 5200 via APX. "Vanguard" has been converted. Upon further research I have found a few 5200 titles which actually aren't available for the 8-bits (yet ). Here is what I came up with: - Playable Protos - Roadrunner Meebzork - Homebrews - Castle Blast Combat II Advanced Haunted House II 3-D KLAX Adventure II - Unplayable Protos - Black Belt Spitfire Tempest Yellow Submarine Of these, the only ones that are really going to matter are the playable protos and homebrews. Additionally, I would like to point out that the improved 5200 version of "Centipede" mentioned above has been converted, as well as other 5200 improved versions such as "Qix". -
Better to check Fandal again...

I don't think effort has that much to do with it, as we're talking about the same basic hardware. I think cafeman needed a break from this whole Adventure II thing for a while.

Nice... I like the 3D objects and Sonic. Seems strange, but I don't know the mechanics of the animation engine. The 3D ojects animation runs faster in PAL mode, and the Sonic animation runs faster in NTSC mode (literally, in this case :-P). This is under emulation.

Article: Transporting Atari Computer Programs to the 5200
MrFish replied to ClausB's topic in Atari 5200
If the miserable scrolling routine was fixed it would probably be a decent game. -
Not for me. It crashes on side B. I think the disk version of Summer Games might be 400/800 only. - Steve Sheppard Wrong... It was released in 1984.

Looking good!

The absolute worst game(s) you played/bought for the A8
MrFish replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I've never heard of this game for the Atari. Can you elaborate? -
OK, one last suggestion for graphical enhancements. This is in regard to the bombs. I've heard it suggested that black bombs would be better, and the developement team is using red bombs currently. I say, why not do both? This makes the bombs a little easier to recognise from the backgrounds.

Here is a PDF of the Atari BASIC Reference Manual. I took the original scan from Carsten Strotmann's Infotek, when it was still up (is there a new location??). I put the pages in the correct order, straightened them out, bookmarked the entire manual, and made it text searchable. Enjoy, and thanks to Carsten for the original scan. AR: The Dungeon Adventurer's Survival Handbook scans
MrFish replied to Gunstar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yea, thanks... nice job Gunstar and MetalGuy66. This reminds me of some documentation I was planning on uploading. -

MrFish replied to lucifershalo's topic in Atari 5200
None... they have all been converted. -
Easy workaround... 1. Use an Atari based program in an emulator to type your text in gr. 15 or a related mode (any "antic 4" character editor will do fine). 2. Use "print screen" or "save image" to capture the image. 3. Create a new document in Photoshop, and copy/paste the text from this document over to your drawing/picture.

I vote for MGD. Although, I guess it was never officially released...
