Its that time again 😮 Two more ST ports are now available for pre-order. The two games this time are Operation Thunderbolt and Return of the Jedi. Both games are complete with manual and will be £50 plus tracking and packing. If you just want a cart of the game then this option is £40 plus tracking and packing. If you would like your games on a clear, red or green cartridge, this is an extra £5 per game. Please state colour when ordering. The pre-order period will finish at the end of Star Wars day!

If you have missed any of the previous ST ports you can order these at the same time too.

As a bonus and to save on postage costs we are also offering you the opportunity to purchase a copy of Frogged. A portion of the proceeds from this game will go to St. Wilfreds Hospice. The game comes complete with box and manual. The first 30 copies of Frogged will come on a green cart, after that they will come with our Uwol orange shells. Cost of the game is £40. The game will head to Etsy soon with a price increase to cover costs.

If you would like to order the games then please email peleiades81@gmail.com. Please use Operation Return as your email title. In the email please include your AA handle, country of residence and which games you would like, and any colour variant of cartridge. An invoice will be sent for payment shortly after.

    Email sent Gaz thanks!

Myself also in 1983, got it as my first Atari unit for my 17th birthday (May 19th, 1983), I’m on my second one, a 2-port with a 4-port BIOS in her, my first was an original 4-port with that automatic switch box, in which BITD was so badass because you never had to go to the TV to switch it from the TV to the unit, that then though, meant I couldn’t get the soon-to-be released 2600 adapter unless I got the mod done on her, in which I didn’t do.

But yes the 5200 also brought me to Atari, in fact I know we love to call her Big Sexy but she also might as well be called “Rodney”, because somehow she gets no respect even to this day except from all of us loyalists like me and @Ryan Witmer who have done a tremendous service for our small but fiercely dedicated community.

That automatic switchbox on the 4 ports were way ahead of their time back in the day. The 4 port had that while all the other systems had MANUAL rf boxes....what a pain. Your 2 port with the 4 port bios is sweet, guess you can play every 5200 release and use the trackball on a 2 port. I have 2 systems as well. An original unmodded late release 4 port with an asterisk in the serial number so its compatible with everything,  I never use it I'm just happy to own it. My second one is an s video modded 4 port which puts out a beautiful picture, that's my daily driver lol. And you're right about the 5200 being a Rodney, it doesn't get the same respect. To me it's still one of my favorites.

  3. Thank goodness the 5200 community has Ryan, love his games and look forward to each new release. Ratcatcher, Magical Fairy Force, Intellidiscs and Rob n Banks....all EXCELLENT games. The 5200 is the system that started it all for me way back in 83. Still love it to this day though it doesn't nearly get the support the 3 other Atari systems do or even the Colecovision and Intellivision for that matter so though the releases are few and far between it makes me appreciate them even more. Thanks to Ryan and all the other supporting the 5200 and keeping it alive

  4. I'm still waiting on 3 orders as well from 6/24 and 6/26 so you guys arent alone. I've been supporting Al for many years now and I know hes hard at work probably doing most of the assembly himself. Cant rush quality and his games, boxes and manuals are first rate. Want to buy some of the new releases but I'm holding off until I receive these orders first

    Hi everyone

2 weeks ago Willie AKA THEVNAGUY here on AA posted a video of him playing the arcade coin-op POT OF GOLD.

He thought it would be a nice game for a home conversion.

    ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE!

I was corresponding with my friend Chris Read AKA ATARI2600LAND here on AA and asked him what he thought... and if he would be willing to try to make a port of the game for the INTELLIVISION.

Well, he was up for the challenge and has begun programming a version of the game.

I would like to stress that this is a work in progress and it is not the finished product.

I also sent the ROM file to Papa Pete to see if he would like to make a video.

We are hoping to release it on cartridge and C.I.B. but this will most likely happen later in the year.

here is Willie's video of the game in action:

    thank you,

    Tim D.

P.S.  here are some basic instructions ( a screen from the coin-op machine )

I remember playing this game as a kid in Chuck E Cheese, I remember it being in a smaller arcade cabinet. Game was fun and as far as I know it was never ported to any console or computer. Looks good so far I'm in for a CIB. Do you have plans or is it even possible to incorporate the jumping animation into the gold?

  6. Your games and packaging are first rate. I look forward to every opcode release, the hard work put into each game shows. I've supported you since your early colecovision days with Road Fighter,  Magical Tree, Pac Man and Space Invaders collection as well as the first sgm run. Highly anticipating your intellivision releases.

  7. Thank you both for getting back to me. I have the colecovision port from the sg1000 I believe and I love it, only drawback is slightly choppy scrolling as you go down but that's minor. Glad to hear they're the same levels but too bad some are missing. Do you know how the intellivision gameplay compares?

  8. I know that the Intellivision version of Penguin Land is based on the SG-1000 game but I noticed that the original SG version has 25 levels and the Intellivision version has 19 levels. Do the 19 levels on the Intellivision version follow the SG game or are the level layouts different meaning 19 new levels? Just curious because I've yet to play the intellivision version but its looks really nice.

That's great that he fixed it for you! Some guys on Ebay are really good about customer service.

Yea I cant say enough about these guys. Excellent communication and it was shipped out, repaired and sent back to me in less than 2 weeks. They handled it immediately and the problem was solved. Ebay can be hit or miss with customer service after the fact but these guys were great. t's as good ad new and my s video mod looks and sounds amazing playing through my retrotink.

Yep, still around.  Just terribly busy with life stuff.

This project, however, might be dead for now.  It was poorly planned and probably announced way too soon.  I may come back to it in the future, but for now I've started a new 5200 project.  I'm not going to give any details on it yet, not until I'm sure I can do what I'm trying to do, but I do occasionally post some stuff on Discord about it.

Definitely good to hear from you, we all know that this hobby is a side project for most of us and life keeps us busy most of the time. Love your games and always look forward to your new ones, you can tell how much work goes into each game. Hopefully one day you can revisit the Santa themed game, it sounded really cool and the 5200 could use an awesome Christmas themed game, your game would fit the bill.

It can’t be spoken about it. But it is an adventure game where you side scroll along and collect coins, mushrooms and save the princess from a green shelled dragon like beast. There are underground worlds, fish worlds.

    hope that gets you there.

    Anthony

I figured that's what it was lol, it's an adventure I went on many times as a kid. Thx

Marc does sell box inserts, they are apparently for the 2600 cartridges, but I bet you can cut the cartridge hole a little bigger to fit the 5200 cartridge.

Thanks for letting me know I'll reach out to Marc I'll make them work

Marc Oberhäuser has been providing Millipede boxes from his Etsy store. Better act fast if you want one, as there is one left.

I purchased a box for my copy a long time ago (below).

I just bought a bunch of 5200 boxes from Marc and the quality is simply amazing. I was wondering if you just put your cart in the box as is or if you were able to buy a insert or make one to secure the cart in the box? Looking  for ideas on how to secure the cart,  I hate leaving it loose moving around

My guess is you might actually have a problem with your 7800 itself where the 2nd button is registering even when it shouldn't be. Do you have Xevious? There is an option where you can use the difficulty switches to allow single button use for both shots and bombs, but also to allow for independent 2 button mode where one button shoots, and the other drops bombs. Be curious to see if that mode is working properly because if not, then it would indicate strongly that there is an issue with your 7800 at that point.

The fact that using different controllers has the same behavior, also points to it most likely being your 7800 at fault here.

Just wanted to give you an update on my 7800. I got in touch with the seller on ebay I bought my s video modded 7800 from and i explained that every time i pressed button one on any two button game, where each button had a different function, a button one press would trigger a simultaneous button 2 press whereas button 2 did nothing making all 2 button games unplayable. They told me to send it in and within a week and a half I had it back from half way across the country and  the problem is solved. All my 2 button games work perfectly. The shop said it was expansion and contraction on the trace lead from riot IC causing data dumps. I guess heating and cooling of the trace lines causing breakdown probably from age.  In the end the board was replaced and it's as good as new. The seller is awesome in every way from keeping in contact to explaining everything and pretty much fixing it immediately. Hes known as the pc doctor and I cant recommend them enough. Just wanted to say thank you to you and everyone else who helped me out.

  15. Yea I just reached out to him hopefully he gets back to me with good news. I have no problem paying for the repair and shipping as long as it gets fixed. I've had it slightly less than a year so hopefully he does the right thing

I'd have to double check on this, but I think when fire button 2 is involved it could be the TIA itself. And yes, with car in Pole Position constantly moving back, it means that both accelerator and brake are being applied at the same time. So button 2 is being detected as being pressed at all times at least on player 1.

Ok I guess let me know what you find out. I can contact the guy who modded it but since I bought it back in January I'm sure it's not under warranty anymore, I think it was only 30 days anyway. I can ask him if hes willing to repair it or a fee or I can just keep it and play all the one button games on it. I do have a stock 7800 that I can use for the 2 button games but it's going to be hard going back to RF after this beautiful s video picture

Defective cart seems unlikely. It might be worth playing around with the difficulty switches - they shouldn't be read or used anywhere by the game. I've never noticed it, but it's possble there's a bug in the code where some combination of the switches plus button brings up the map? That's the only "code" thing I can think of.

Honestly the 7800 can develop issues like this out of the blue. I had a stack of them 2 months ago and they all tested great without issues. Then, a month later when I went back to do final testing on them before sending them all back out to their owner, One of them developed the stuck player 2 fire button issue that it did NOT have when I first tested it. Turned out to be one resistor that was just a little lower spec than it should have been. Replaced that out with another one closer to required spec and the issue went away.

But yes any game that has 2 buttons that work to do different functions would likely show this as a possible issue. Here are some other games that you can try if you have them. Pole Position II came with every NTSC 7800 so that would be an easy one to try also.

    - Xenophobe might be good too since grenades are thrown with the second button when you are crouched.

    - Choplifter requires the 2 buttons as one button is used to fire your shots and bombs, and the other button changes the direction you are facing.

    - Commando uses the left fire for shooting and the right button to toss grenades

    - Pole Position II uses the left button to accelerate and the right to apply the breaks

So it would be quite odd for the game to have that specific issue only if it were a defective cartridge although I guess anything is possible. But yeah, keep us in the loop.

I think my worst fears were confirmed...its the 7800 not the CART. Just tried playing pole position 2 and its borderline unplayable. Theres no sense of speed, I'm trying to accelerate and I'm constantly being pushed back which means the brakes are being applied at the same time. The car moves but keeps slowing down. So basically as is my 7800 is limited to 1 button games. There also seems to be an issue while playing Midnight Mutants so I know it's the system. Just need to figure out how to get it fixed.
