I don't have a keyboard, but I tried hooking up the audio to an external speaker but didn't hear anything. I checked each chip to see if it was getting hot, and all I found was that the 6502c chip started getting warm a few minutes in but wasn't scalding. Not sure where to go from here. Does that warrant a replacement?

Ok, I tried using the RCA to Coax and got pretty much the same thing as when I used the Nintendo switch box. I used the fine tuner and just got varying colors and snowy lines. At some point on the low setting I got a completely black screen with little flashes of colored dots, but that was it. I'm guessing the next step is opening it up and checking for hot chips?

Yeah, I have an RCA to Coax that I'll dig out and try, thanks! The XEGS doesn't have a channel 2 or 3, though, just H or L. I was a bit confused by that. I have a 80's JVC so I'm pretty sure the composite output is connected up right.

I finally tracked down a power supply for my XEGS and fired her up with a dig-dug cart. I started with component cables, and... no picture. Some flashes of color appeared when I pressed the power button, but that was it. I tried using a Nintendo Switch RF signal changer next on the RCA jack and got some colorful, snowy picture and gross tones. Any idea what the problem could be? I tried two different carts, as well as the diagnostic button combinations to no avail. The console doesn't look damaged in any way. Thanks in advance! Well, that's definitely a problem. Let's hope my soldering skills are good enough!

I have two Intellivision IIs. One turns on and doesn't display picture, but I think that's due to the super wiggly RCA port. I'll update this post once I investigate that. The other Intellivision II turns on and displays... something. Lots of random dots, lines, etc. It kind of reminds me of when the RIOT chip was broken on my Atari 2600, but since I have zero Intellivision experience I have no idea what the cause of the issue could be. I've attached a video in hopes someone can help me diagnose the issue! I cracked open the thing and dusted it out. No clear corrosion or anything, but I'm ready to do some multimeter-ing if needed! Do you mean the soldered pins under the slot? I'm not a soldering expert - but can I reflow from the bottom side of the circuit board? Thanks for the help!

I've scoured the internet in search of help fixing my SMS and now I turn to you. I'm hoping there's someone here who can help! I recently got my hands on a SMS CIB that was in pretty rough shape since it had sat in a styrofoam box for some amount of years... it was pretty nasty. After some fiddling I got a game in the card slot to play, but no matter how many different ways I clean my game cart or the cartridge slot, I can't get a cart to play. Every time I just get the standard hang on/safari hunt default games. I've used erasers, isopropyl alcohol, window cleaner, pipe cleaners, you name it to clean both the slot and the game. There's no visible damage to either pins or slot. I'm at a loss. I can attach pictures if needed, but any suggestions are welcome!

I was gifted an Atari XEGS with a joystick and light gun, but sadly no power supply. I've searched around on eBay and can only find rather overpriced power supplies. I don't even need an authentic or original one, but does anyone know where I can find a power supply just so I can test that the unit actually works? Thanks!

I have a working Atari so I will try swapping out the riot IC to see if that's the issue.

I cleaned the slots as best as I could by pouring in some alcohol and sticking some thick paper in and out, and then repeating the process with a cartridge, but no luck. Should I go ahead and try to replace the riot chip or is there something else I can try? Thanks!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I cleaned out the switch really good with alcohol and progress was made! Now I get a picture. Basically I see a bunch of scrunched up lines that are colored and monotone beeps every half second. I tried a different cartridge and saw different colored lines and patterns. I have two Atari 2600s. One with a wood panel, and one without. The one with the wood panel works beautifully with my 80's CRT TV, and the black paneled one doesn't work at all with the same setup. I busted it open to take a look at the board. When plugging it in, I saw a little spark which suggested to me that power is indeed going in correctly. I took a multimeter and measured around a bit. 15 V going in. Everything seemed to stop at the on switch. No matter how much I switched on or off, the voltage went from 15 V to 0 V right across that switch. Is it unusual for an Atari switch to not work? There's also some corrosion around the board which I am going to clean off with isopropyl alcohol. Does anyone have any next steps for me to try? I would love to get this working! I was gifted boxes full of Ataris, and today someone gave me their 1983 analog CRT TV off of Freecycle. I finally got to hook everything up and I'm super happy with this! I just have a few questions: I think there might be something wrong with my asteroids cart, as when I press the joystick down, the spaceship doesn't move down but rather disappears and reappears somewhere else some time later. This was reproduced with two different controllers. Also, after about 2 minutes on any game, the screen background starts changing colors (see second pic). Any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks for the link! From my searches on the internet I figured it was a RAM problem. In that wiki article, none of he pictured examples match my symptoms exactly. I think I’ll open up the machine and check for damage or corrosion.

Someone gave me 5-6 boxes full of ataris, intellivisions, colecovisions, and two TI 99/4As (one still in its original box). Ive never played with these before since I didnt grow up with them, but I was eager to try it! One TI works beautifully, and the other has jumbled letters. Ill attach some photos, but does anyone know what may cause this issue? Thanks again! This seems like a cool forum.
