Iirc, the 7800 needs an adapter to run a genesis controller. That would lead me to believe the 7800 controller wouldn't work with the 5200 adapter that's made for a genesis controller.

Have you tried a genesis controller?

Well that's good to know. Maybe it just doesn't like this cart. I did slightly bend the pins outward to make sure they are making contact, with no change. I also noticed the garbage on screen will occasionally change when I turn the console off and on, shown below, or I will get a black screen.

I just purchased this odyssey 2 with one game. After giving it a once over I hooked it up and get this on the screen.
What I've done so far:
- thoroughly cleaned the cartridge port and the game contacts
- removed, cleaned and re-seated the socketed chips and sockets
- looked over the board for cold solder joints, none that I can see
- tested the PS. It's outputting 12.6v
Interestingly, I get this onscreen with our without a cartridge inserted.
Any ideas on what to look at next?

I think it would be fine. The shielding in the pics looks pretty decent. They're pure copper and not copper class aluminum, which is good.

It's surprisingly cheap. A nice change of pace.

I would simply make a Inty2-to-Flashback adapter cable and not destroy a highly sought after Flashback controller. If I wasn't on a business trip in a hicktown in Mexico with no internet access, i would have grabbed that controller
That being said, the mylar membranes are not interchangeable and I doubt that trying to remove just the outer "keypad" exterior front will fit properly over the Inty2 controller guts.
good luck
I ended up making my own replacement membrane. The intellivision 1 style membrane will work with some trimming, but the DIY route turned out well enough it's not worth the effort.
No flashback controllers were harmed in the making of this post.

My 12v supply for the led mod somehow got pinched underneath one of the button contacts and shorted out the control panel circuit board.
The arcade itself is still functional but all controls are unresponsive unless I want to stare at the ms pacman attract screen. If anyone knows of someone who can offer a replacement pcb or has a pinout diagram for the ribbon header, please let me know.
I also really don't like the fact there is a proprietary glop top on it, so I can't just wire the controls to the pin header.
I'd take a look at one of the 1up modding facebook pages. A lot of those guys have gutted their cabs and have the original parts sitting around.

Manufactured in China, I would guess.
They're good.

I have no plans to destroy it, I just wanted to see if the original style pad could be made to work in the 2's controller, mainly if the buttons still work with the original style mylar. If it does, I'll order a set of replacement mylar, trim/modify as needed. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Either way, I still have a FB controller that I'll probably rewire, or build an adapter for.

I'm not sure what to do about those number pads. I dont know if the replacement membrane for the original fibrosis would work or not

I kind of wish they would've copied the SNES layout instead of the Hori one, though...makes Game Boy Player and emus feel a little awkward.
Might be nice for the RE games, stuff like that, though.
It's pretty decent. The d pad feels a little off. I swapped out the pad from a SNES controller and it's perfect.
