After examining all files on the disk.
It is TV-Sports Football cracked by MCA.
The exact same filenames/sizes are on SuperGAU Compilation 870
better late than never...

These are the original??? images edited.
It does work with the booter protection intact, in the latest MAME version.
so debug is possible. :)

Just had a go at editing that game removing lots of protection checks.
It now loads in Classic99.
Not sure if i broke any essential data, but you are welcome to test it.

Thanks for all the info. :)
The most important step i was missing...
ti99_cart.xml must be in the "hash" folder for it to work.
i had compiled a Texas only MAME, and put xml file in the same folder as the carts.
It might not be the MAME way of thinking...
As long as the cart files can be added and configured from the command line.
At least there will be a way to get most homebrew stuff working from a front end, without the need for a CRC check.
examples
-cart "alpiner.zip" -pcb "standard" -grom "phm3056g.bin" -size 8000 -offset 0000 -rom "phm3056c.bin" size 1000 -offset 0000
or
-cart "titanium.zip" -pcb "paged379i" -rom "titanium3.bin"

Hi,
I have ZIP version carts, but can not get ANY running from the command line.
i read you do not use the ZIP extension in the commandline.
"-cart honeyhnt"
Do they need to be in a fixed set folder for MAME to see them or something?
also please can you give me one example of a RPK layout.xml for the new multi grom files.
phm3156c.bin
phm3156g3.bin
phm3156g4.bin
phm3156g5.bin
this is what i came up with...
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <romset version="1.0"> <resources> <rom id="gromimage" file="phm3156g3.bin"/> <rom id="gromimage" file="phm3156g4.bin"/> <rom id="gromimage" file="phm3156g5.bin"/> <rom id="romimage" file="phm3156c.bin"/> <ram id="bufferedram" file="honeyhnt.nv" type="persistent" length="1024"/> </resources> <configuration> <pcb type="mbx"> <socket id="grom_socket" uses="gromimage"/> <socket id="rom_socket" uses="romimage"/> </pcb> </configuration> </romset>
many thanks!

If i start using this to clear the keybuffer...
ADD_CLP( -autoboot_delay 1 -autoboot_command "")
it works until you pickup a patient.
then it buggs out again.
if anything is in the keybuffer, it fails.
ADD_CLP( -autoboot_delay 1 -autoboot_command "x2")
changing to NATURAL keyboard mode.
and press [F12] to reset (twice).
then press cursor right to start.
it looks ok until another key press.

Hi,
I am having problems getting Ti99/4a Ambulance (Funware) cartridge running in newer versions of MAME 202 - 214.
tried several memory /port settings without any luck.
so i *think* it could be a bug.
It does work ok in OLD MESS 140.

How and what file did you run from FW?
I found a few problems with the code. The first is the loader trying to load beyond the VDP memory limits. The second and more difficult to track down is a DSR pointer (0x8356) which is being set wrong either by the loader or a device. In fact, the second program has a kludge to fix the filename, which may be the reason Myarc cards failed, and the reason the filenames have a duplicated first character.
Regardless, I am now able to successfully load the program in Classic99 and on the Geneve (with a Myarc card!) with no problems. I'm still not sure where the value is set wrong, though so far it -appears- to be a problem with the Millers Graphics DSRLNK/GPLLNK or the 4A ROM code. The mystery will have to wait until I have another chance to dig further...
Thanks to Tursi for verifying some Classic99 information and for running through the code following some initial conjecture.
Hi,
Sorry to dig up an old thread.
But can you PLEASE upload the fixed image of Adventures in Dinosaurland, which works in classic99.
Many thanks.

Ah, have you taken over from Mark now, I think we talked about you doing updates a while back?
Not heard from Mark in quite a while...
But he did give permission for me to update it, when we last spoke.
it only started out as a simple script and GEMUS update for Altirra, so we could drop all the other emulators, and get everything automated.
Then Dax wanted to add homebrew stuff from a Polish website, so i got the GB fever once again.

This will be the last HUGE update of Marks Atari GameBase from me.
Any future updates should be small and easy to configure now.
-
I believe in this case, someone modified the game pre-loader for use with Turbo Basic and its extended GET statement. Loading the B file to TBXL would provide an answer.
Thank you very much Baktra,
i believe that someone was the programmer after changing the control from Paddle to Joystick.
But that was the only version out there in the wild.
no doubt your fixed version will appear on Atarimania soon.

And it will be in the next GameBase update. 7745 games and counting...

I only mentioned the Heatcliffe as it displayed a boot error or showed corrupt GFX.
The TAPE load timing is almost perfect, as all the other 820 cassette files i have tested.
Are working with one setting or another.
i know you can not factor in a WAVE recording from old magnetic media.
but i am very grateful you fixed real hardware bugs.

last request from me (promise).
can you tell me if this very rare basic game is corrupt or on the wrong basic/dos disk.

Boom!

Atariserv/New Breed Software›1990/1994
This is a simple Atari BASIC version
of Activion's old 'Kaboom!' game for
Atari 2600's and XL/XE's (and other
non-Atari platforms).
This game works best in AtariBASIC
(versus TurboBASIC - then again, most
Atari BASIC GAMES are much better in
BASIC than TBXL) and with a paddle!!!
BUT! If you don't have a paddle,
don't use the [P]addle option at the
beginning of the game - use a joy-
stick in port 1. -
Hi Paul,
I do remember having a screwdriver next to CN1530 for loading dodgey original tapes.

But i suppose once the WAV file is converted to CAS, all errors will be fixed and written in the code.
WinVICE has options for adjusting the speed of the datasette motor while reading of RAW TAP files.
But it all depends if Altirra is using similar logic to read them.

Heathcliffe CAS is loading 100% now.
fastboot=off
start=random
sio=on
it does't always work when sio is off.
which i thought it would have the opposite effect.
thanks for your help Phaeron.
-
ok, i understand (i was just lucky with the random start).
This may sound crazy or even a little stupid (bear with me).

could there be an option to display the value and then tweak the 'random' starting position.
so the random value could be set and fixed in some instances.
i am thinking a bit like a tape head adjustment feature.
i guess this could be complicated, and way down on the list of emulator features.

This is a MEMLO-related problem. When running kungfu.bas directly, no DOS is loaded and MEMLO is at $0700. Booting Kung-Fu Master.atr, MEMLO is at $2000 and so the BASIC program runs much higher in memory. This is just enough for the runtime stack to barely poke into the start of the character map at $3800, corrupting the blank character. The DOS on this disk places MEMLO a bit high; on default settings, DOS 2.0S places it at $1CFC and DOS 2.5 at $1C6C.
Thanks again!!!
That totally makes sense.
do you happen to have one of those working DOS disks handy.

sounds like you are asking some one to fix heathcliffe?
I wasn't...
I know the CAS file worked in a previous version of Altirra, and was reporting a possible bug or missing setting by me.
So i was kind of asking for an emulator fix.
changing the boot setting to "deferred" or "type 3 poll" as mentioned above, does the trick 90% of the time.
but if you want to hack the two 'CAS' files so they load 100% of the time. that's perfeclty ok with me.
YES PLEASE.

*I already have working hacks on Disk.
-
Thanks Phaeron... and Paul

I now notice a couple of very old games are loading with buggy graphics.
This is very odd.
if i load the BAS file from disk, the graphics are corrupt.
but if i drag the BAS file into the emulator the graphics are perfect.
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=11712203945963523561
maybe a similar problem to the MSX. having to hold SHIFT or CTRL while booting to disable a drive and free a little memory.
And the game is possibly only meant to load from tape?.
-
Hello.
I am having problems loading these two tapes in Altirra 3.20 test 12.
Heathcliffe - fun with spelling.
Special Forces.
turning SIO on/off can get better results.
so i guess there is a slight timing issue or duff recording of the tape.
Heathcliffe
Cas file fails with loading error at 3 mins to go (SIO off).
Loads to title screen with buggy text (SIO on). game play ok.
converting the Heathcliffe CAS to WAV and set SIO off. it works.
same buggy text with SIO on.
maybe some Atari Guru can see the problem.

download test tapes here...
