Where to buy a Lynx II without breaking the bank?
dalton4life replied to rockman_x_2002's topic in Atari Lynx
Ebay. I grabbed a boxed Lynx II off there for a little less than $50 shipped about a year ago. Prices look like they are still in that range on there. -
Not to sound negative I think he should get a new set too. Playing 360 games on an old RF only TV defeats the purpose having a 360 somewhat IMO. You'll lose a lot of the detail that makes 360 games look better than regular Xbox games. It's not like Xbox 360 has a bunch of amazing games that aren't heavily based on having better graphics.

The Disappearance of Classic Arcades
dalton4life replied to NightSprinter's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I totally forgot about that one. I remember it being pretty impressive and expensive. Over a $1 some places. Do you remember the exact name of that one? -
I posted this on a 360 board but I'll add it here too. I bought 3 Xbox 360 games at Gamestop for $93.50 out the door! This is how I did it: I went there just to buy Condemned. I had a coupon out of Game Informer for 10% of any used games. That's on top of my Gamestop Value Card's 10%. So they had a buy 2 used games and get one free sale going that day. The salesguy , "Do you realized you just $75. I'm not sure we made a profit on this sale." I bought Condemned, King Kong and Need for Speed Most Wanted. I really wanted Call of Duty 2 instead of King Kong but they didn't have it in-stock used. Since it was by one get one free I also wanted them all to be $60 games.

What place can I buy the Xbox the cheapest for?
dalton4life replied to Lacan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Do you mind buying a used one? They are all over the pawnshops in my area for $100 or less. -
Really? I found it to be the opposite. I've had 3 white one die on me but my black one is hanging in there. Plus it plays CD-R. My last white one did not. 1007812 actually I think most dreamcast made before 2000 or 2001 played cd-rs as well. 1009162 Yeah I know. My 1st Dreamcast played CD-R and it was white but it broke. I knew when buying for my current Dreamcast that all black ones played CD-R. I didn't have to check a date on it. Plus the black made it look cooler.

What's your favorite Genre of game?
dalton4life replied to dalton4life's topic in Modern Console Discussion
A poll has been added! Sorry I forgot to put other in but I think cover most the genres that people would choose. Action is kind of a broad one. -
Yes and no. You can keep a PSP at 1.5 and trick the firmware up, but that doesn't work on most games newer than GTA:LCS. Also you run a version tricker on 2.0 that works on every game so far. I don't know about this demo but I think it'd work on it too. 1.5 you can run all homebrew and ISOs or pirated games. 2.0 runs most homebrew but not ISOs.

Has anyone tried this on their PSP?
dalton4life replied to shep's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've downgraded 2 PSPs. It's not that hard but get the downgrade from PSPudates. You want to download it from the from the most reputable site. -
Black if I can. I prefer my consoles being black. They are easier to keep looking nice.

I enjoy fighting, sports, driving, action/adventure and some FPS & RPG thrown in there but if I had to chose one it's survial horror. I enjoy games so much more when they scare me some or at least make me jump a little .

My favs are: Castlevania SoTH Crash Bandicoot Warped Devil Dice Fear Effet 1 and 2 Final Fantasy 7-9 Metal Geal Solid Resident Evil 1-3 Xevious 3D/G+ btw: you can copy a PS1 game just like a regular audio CD but of course you need a way to boot it up. AR works for me and when it doesn't I use Breaker Pro.

I just saw a black sports dreamcast with 3 games and the system box sell for about $40 with $15 shipping on ebay. I was thinking about it because I want a box for my black dreamcast. So no they don't go for much more at all. I'd give you something for the box (possibly a trade?) if you still had it and didn't mind splitimg it from the console.

The Disappearance of Classic Arcades
dalton4life replied to NightSprinter's topic in Classic Console Discussion
2 words. Modded Xbox. I can play Star Wars The Arcade Game via Xbox Mame on my big screen. It's one of the best thing about my softmodded Xbox. 1006624 Nah still not the same. You guys talking about "perfect" home ports are usually talking about your typical post JAMMA games (i.e. generic monitor with generic controls). I'm talking Tekken, Neo-Geo, SF2, whatever. Home ports of those games are non events since the arcade hardware was nothing special really. But of course half the appeal of the true "classic" arcades (pre-84) that will never be able to come home is obvious. The HARDWARE. And I'm not just talking about things like vehicle sims and dance mats. This must be the 50th time I've said this on this forum but take a simple game like Space Invaders. Think you got it "perfect" in Mame or in Space Invaders DX? You may have the game itself, but you don't have the arcade hardware that made it special. Like the holographic display as reflected by a mirror, the cardboard background, the flourescent lighting, the reverb and bass throughout the wood cabinet, the painted bezel, and of course the overall coolness factor. e.g. MAME vs. real deal VS. There are just some things that can't be brought home unless you get the real deal. And playing Star Wars on a modded Xbox (I do it all the time by the way) is pretty far from sitting in a Star Wars cockpit and playing it with a yolk controller on a vector monitor with the stereo sound at your ears I aint knocking it. I LOVE emu'd games on my pc and modded xbox. But just stating the obvious facts 1006638 That's true but Saturn X was saying there's was never a decent home version of Star Wars the Arcade Game. At least I think he was saying that because there was no decent home version, but 5200 and Colecovision both had pretty bad versions. I'm not sure he knew that. That's what I was commenting on. I never said anything was exactly the same as the arcade experience. I merely stated you can play a good version of Star War the Arcade Game at home. The fact I can play so many arcade games at home easily out weighs the fact it's not the exact same arcade experience for me. -

The Disappearance of Classic Arcades
dalton4life replied to NightSprinter's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think it came down to 3D consoles with CD quality music killing the arcades and online gaming being the nail in the coffin. I remember a lot of games charging $1.00 at the end. Why pay a $.50 or $1.00 per play when you can play the exact if not better game at home with extras for $40-50 new and even less used? Arcades to me were always about the experience I can't get at home. That why I think places like ESPNzone and Dave and Busters are successful today. They make it an experience beyond just playing video games because we do that at home. I'm sorry if neither place is in your area. -
My 2 favorites will always be Space Harrier and Xevious arcade versions. Other nice ones: Marble Madness - Arcade Tetris - Gameboy/NES Legend of Zelda - NES Sonic The Hedgehog - Genesis Street of Rage 2 - Genesis Tempest 2K - Jaguar Killer Instinct - Arcade Castlevania SoTH- PS1 FF 7 - PS1 God of War - PS2

Wrapping up the year, Blitz style!
dalton4life replied to Jess Ragan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Nice list. I bought my 1st original Xbox last year too and I really like it, but I think PS2 had the better year. Games like Devil May Cry 3, God of War, Socom 3, Smackdown Vs. Raw 2006, and Resident 4 (yeah I know it's on Gamecube too but it's not on Xbox) set it ahead of Xbox even if Xbox has better graphics. The graphical gap is the smallest it's ever been and some multi-platform look almost indentical on both systems. Plus with Nvidia now with Sony, it seems to me MS focus is on 360 and they are ready to drop Xbox like a hot potato, but they don't want to alienate Xbox owners. Don't get me wrong I know Xbox had it's gems too last year like Forza and Half Life 2. I'm actually surprised by 2005 because I thought Xbox owned PS2 for the previous 2 years, but Sony step out their game this year with PS2. PSP that's somewhat of a different story. I still can't believe Sony couldn't release one killer app for it at launch. -
For now, I won auctions on NBA 2K6 and Madden for $90 together shipped on ebay. I'm looking to get Call of Duty 2 and maybe Condemmed as well this week on ebay as well. I got the hang of the Full Auto demo and really liked it. Fight Night Round 3 looks amazing. I'll probably get those 2 when they are release in February. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Blazing Angels: Squadrons are what I am looking at for March. Plus in between all those I can pick up DOA 4, Kameo and Pefect Dark Zero if I get a chance so I think I'll be set for 360 games for a little while.

No, Virtual Boy was! I'm sorry I know that's really true, but I love to bring up Virtual Boy whenever I get a chance. 1006061 FamiCom was, actually. LCD shutters for the win. Artlover: If I recall, teh N64 emu on the GC disk scraps the FSAA of the N64 in favor of a sharper picture. There's likely some texture filtering going on too. Personally, I think emulators should strive for accuracy above all else, but a lot of poeple think if they can't jack teh resolution up through whatever means, it's not worth it. On topic... I like my 'Cube. I don't own an N64, and only see maybe a half-dozen games I want for it. 1006077 Sorry for the typo. I meant to say it wasn't really true on the VB. I still love it though. It's one of the only perks of being colorblind.

I've seen 2.0 Firmware PSPs in Target since Christmas. I know newer firmware PSPs are in the stores now but 2.0s are still out there. 2.0 is as high as you need all you need for emulation and the ability to play new games. That will require running the eboot loader and PSPset to fake up the firmware. It's not hard to do.

Even though the N64 didn't dominate the marketplace Nintendo still made more money off the N64 than Sony did off the PS1, mostly due to first and second party sales, easy piracy of the PS1, and lower R&D costs. Similarly the Gamecube in spite of not being the #1 console still made more money for Nintnedo than the PS2 did for Sony and the X Box did for Microsoft. 1005969 This thread was supposed about N64 vs. Gamecube, not Nintendo vs. MS vs. Sony. I'll never get dragged in to one of those discussions. Now that I got that out of the way let me state I never disputed the fact N64 did well for them or the fact Gamecube turned a profit. My point was Gamecube wasn't as successful N64 was and I felt it fell short of Nintedo's goals. Also N64 exclusive titles were better than Gamecube ones IMO when you compare them to games on each system's competing consoles. What is even more inpressive is to me N64 games were fit onto cartridges. Gamecube is a much better multi-platform which mostly a good thing, but that takes away from some the specialness that N64 had with pretty much all it's best games being only playable on N64. A lot of Gamecube best games aren't GC exclusives.
