  1. Yes I did. And I just changed D9 to D1. AutoExec.bat works as described.
  2. Need help making sense of AVGCart, SIDE emulation, Flash SpartaDosX. So I've had my AVG cart for a month or so. Thanks to COVID lockdowns, it took forever to get it. I bought this cart because I want to run SpartaDosX on my 65XE. As well as all the other advantages of a multi-cart. I've updated the Cart to v19. Initially I downloaded the SIDE and SIDE2 SpartaDosX ROMs and placed them on the flash card. But they would not boot. Using De Re AVG Cart, I partitioned my SD card as described in that guide. Formatted the remaining FAT32 partition. Copied OSXEX to he root of the FAT32 partition. Downloaded FlashJazzCat's SIDE loader and SpartaDosX roms and placed them on the SD card. Both of FlashJazzCat's roms will load. I also found the 128K from from SpartaDos will boot as well. When I boot either SpartaDos ROM, it goes to D1. But a DIR of D1 says device not found. I don't currently have an SIO drive connected. I was able to format I. And can see that. But where are all the SpartaDosX files? When you boot from disk, there is the COM, and possibly a host of other files, like TDATE, TDLINE, ect. TDATE works, but I don't know where it is. Where does AutoExec.bat read from? All this makes sense with SpartaDos 3.2 and booting from disk. But booting SpartaDosX ROM is new to me What's the best way to get the SpartaDosX tools that you can download? My best guess is you place them on your SIO2SD device and mount it as D1. I guess then you can copy them to a hard disk partition? As for SIDE emulation and the SIDE loader, based on FlashJazzCat's doc, it looks like it supports XEX and ATR's. But not CAR or ROM files. I don't even see those on my SD card when using the SIDE loader. What are the benefits of using SIDE loader instead of the default AVG software? In addition, I using the stock composite video. And I've noticed the fonts of the AVG and SIDE loaders appears off, compared to the video's I've seen for both products. Is that expected with stock video on modern LED TV's.
  3. When I had my 800 apart last month, I noticed what looks like bus lines on the back of the motherboard. They're concealed when in the case. What purpose do they serve?
  4. It spent 4 hours tanning today. No lotion. And, I think it looks a little better. The temps are mild. So I just set it on the picnic table and rotate it around every hour. May have another session Wednesday.
  5. A recent post in the Atari 8-bit computers group on Facebook is giving me second thoughts. The poster says the yellowing protects the plastic from further chemical changes. And the more you retrobrite, the deeper the damage goes. That leads to making the plastic brittle. I thought I read somewhere the yellowing was a chemical reaction of the fire retardant and UV light.
  6. My 800 suffers from dot-crawl when using the composite connection on my modern LCD. I tried two composite to HDMI converters which turned out to be garbage. Even one that appeared to be the same one an Atari Youtuber suggested. But he had an 800xl. And was on an older PAL LCD. In a last ditch effort to avoid modifying the machine or finding an old TV or LCD TV, I tried an Atari Composite/S-Video cable and and not too cheap S-Video to HDMI converter. Better picture than the composite. This: S-Video to HDMI converter And this : Atari to Composite/S-Video monitor cable
  7. The peroxide cream finally arrives just as the sun disappears behind the clouds. Looking like next Thursday before it comes out again. And suggestions? Is it as simple as disassemble down to the plastic shell. Apply the cream. Wrap in plastic wrap. And sit it in direct sunlight for several hours.
  8. So each chip stores 1 bit of each address between 0 and ffff? Does that mean each chip is tied to only one line of the data bus.
  9. I was wondering if you ever needed to replace ram in an 8-bit and didn’t want extra ram, would the Atari work with only 2 32K chips? For example, Remove all 8 chips in a 65XE. Then install only 2 41256-15 chips.
  10. Just wanted to be sure. My first time hooking up an old composite cable I had, I learned it didn't match modern composite cable colors. I plugged the red into TV's red audio port and got a hum and no screen. Later learned that was connected to the the chroma pin. I'll have to defer to the more experienced tech wizards on what would cause the actual computer to be humming.
  11. Is the hum coming from the unit itself or the TV speaker?
  12. OK. I was just concerned about their age and drying out. Didn't want to risk one failing and taking out hard to find components with it.
  13. I've had my 65XE since the late 80's. And I've never recapped the machine. It uses a rebuildable power supply I purchased from Best-Electronics a few years ago. In addition I have a restored 800 I purchased off E-Bay. But I don't know if restored means it was recapped. It appears to be using an original 400/800 power supply. Since replacement parts are becoming more scarce, I was wondering if there are any particular caps I should replace just to be on the safe side. Thanks, Glenn
  14. Just got one of these myself. I thought it saved when you made the change. But I fried mine shortly after. Just got it back from repair. What ever you do, do not flip that switch to computer power if you have external power connected. It will fry the Arduino. As for SpartaDos 3.2, it does support directories. If you go to archive.org and search for SpartaDos toolkit, you'll find some documentation from 3.2's day. I'm waiting for an AVG cart. And will use SpartaDos X. It's commands are closer to DOS that v3.2.
  15. Boot from D0. And use the commands from the page below. Scroll to the "Controlling SDrive-Max from the Atari section". As you toggle with Ctrl+U you'll see the speeds cycle in the lower right. https://atari8bit.net/everything-sdrive-max/
  16. Here's a link to SpartaDos 3.2 ATR files. https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SpartaDOS
  17. I've read SpartaDos X won't boot from SDrive-Max. Need cartridge device for that. But SpartaDos 3.2 will. But you need to lower the speed of your SDrive-Max to 57.6K or lower. I'll post a link where to get SpartaDos 3.2 as soon as I find it again.
  18. OK. I'll try The Peroxide option. Just need to see if the local Sally's is open. (City is under a Quarantie). If not, guess I'll order it. How much does a bottle cover?
  19. What is the preferred method of restoring the case on the Atari 800? Is it safe enough to retro-brite? Or would spray painting be Krylon camouflage kaki better and safer option?
  20. I don’t know. I don’t have SpartaDos X cartridge. But I have an AVG cart coming. I’ll try then. In the mean time I’ll try to ask the seller if he knows.
  21. I tried another RCA to HDMI converter. I think it’s the same one used below. But the picture quality was only a little better than the first converter The composite connection is the best picture on both machines. I’ll live with the dot-crawl on the 800. And the 800 picture is better since replacing R189 with a 220ohm resistor. Thanks for the help.
  22. I've configured my spartados x autoexec.bat file to poke some settings to set remove margins, default to lowercase, turn off key clicks and drive noise. But these are lost when I do a warm reset. Is there anyway to protect these settings from a warm reset?
  23. I was able to get rid of it. I had the picture mode on gaming. Cycled though until I found a good one.
