  1. You're correct. It is the composite video. Using an composite to HDMI converter fixes the dot crawl. But the picture is not very good. Even on the 65XE. But this was an ultra cheap HDMI converter I got from Amazona few years ago. I'll buy a better one.
  2. What about using a composite to HDMI converter. I think I have one.
  3. Yes, I'm using composite video. But RF had the same effect. And, my 65XE looks fine. But the video circuits between the two are different. The display only supports RF, composite video and HDMI. It lacks component and S video.
  4. I’ll need to see what I can do about getting a CRT. By the signal being hot, are you referring to its luma output? If so, I did replace R189 with a 220ohm resistor has described in a few other threads I read here.
  5. I no longer own any CRT's Recently tried to get a Commodore monitor off Craigslist. But it was snatched quickly.
  6. No. I was going to purchase a new CPU board from Best. But we're going to try replacing the OS board. Apparently mine is modified for some RAM upgrade. Can you still find GTIA chips for sale somewhere?
  7. The 800 and PacMan videos on Youtube look like what my 65XE shows. The horizontal lines appear to be solid blue lines. My 800 has dots. But the vertical lines are solid. I've tried 2 different composite cables and the RF connection. And two different displays. But the fact that the 65XE looks correct and Youtube shows 800 players look like the 65XE, something must be wrong with the 800. I think the video circuitry. It's too consistent on the entire board. Only the horizontal lines are wrong. So I doubt it's bad RAM.
  8. Anyone? Just need to confirm if your 800 displays the PacMan boarder the same as mine. My memory says my first 800 didn't.
  9. I purchased an Atari 800 last April. Everything appears to work. But the display is not as good as my 65XE. Text has a reddish tint. And Pack Man is missing pixels on the horizontal lines of playfield. So, I saw that it was suggested to replace R189 with a 220ohm resistor. I did that. Picture may be better. And adjusting the TV picture mode, got rid of the red tint in Basic. But Pac Man is still missing pixels. See attached images. I've tried different composite cables and TVs. Even tried the RF connection. Could someone who has a perfectly working 800 with unmodified video hardware tell me if there's looks the same? The horizontal lines on my 65 XE are solid like the veritable lines. I was thinking about replacing the CPU Board. But Bradley at Best Electronics wanted to try some other things first. So we reseated the OS, RAM and CPU boards. At the same time, I pressed the ICs to make sure they were firmly in their sockets. I noticed the OS board is modified. See here : Bradley suggested we start by trying a stock OS board. So I'm going to try that. But I suspect Antic or GTIA.
  10. I learned on the Antic Podcast on Turbo Basic XL, there is a patched SpartaDos version 3.2 which will resolve the issue. It is 3.2q. I'll give that a try.
  11. The Radio Shack closed again. But the business I bought it from agreed to repair it for a reasonable fee.
  12. It has the SIO Mod PCB. That has an IC. Would it have been fried to?
  13. It's toast. Computer doesn't see it. I tried the make uno I got from Radio Shack years ago. It appears to be on eof the bad Arduinos in the Everything SDrive-MAX page. But the computer saw it. And it uploaded both packages. Guess I need a new one.
  14. I'm trying to flash it now. XLoader says its uploading the eprom writer hex file now. Screen is on. As are the LED's but they're not flashing. Should they be? I've worked with devices this small before. And there is one last Radio Shack not too far from me. I can try an see if they have the UNO I need. Otherwise, I guess I'll get it from Amazon. The fit in the case is tight. And I'll have to see if the LED wires are longer and just tucked into the board. Though it has been years since I soldered anything. Oh well, I was planning to replace the R189 resistor in my 800 to try and fix the display output. Guess this may be another project.
  15. There goes $80. And I was just starting to like it.
  16. I just received a 1050 cased SDrive-Max from Vintage Computer. It was working well plugged into the external power and SIO. Would not work off SIO. Even with the switch to the left. So I ran it powered. Everything was working fine. Then the screen flipped upside down after saving settings and getting the screen calibration. Figured that out. The computer was still on as was the SDrive-Max's external power. I think I pushed the switch to the left while turning it around again. The screen went out and the two front red LED's began flashing. I flipped the switch back to the right. But they didn't stop flashing. So I unplugged its power. Waited a few seconds and tried to power on. Nothing. Unplug from Atari, and nothing. Flip switch again. Still nothing. I have an Arduino here, so I plugged the SDrive into my PC using it's USB cable only. This time I get a white screen, but nothing more. Plugged in with just SIO or external supply does nothing. Any ideas?
  17. I purchased an 800 off Ebay a year ago. And found that it was having some display issues. So I'm just getting back to this. I was prepared to purchase an OS board from BestElectronics because it contains the Antic and GTIA chips. But Bradley wants to try some other things first. The first thing is to reseat the ram and os cards. And when I pulled them out, I noticed all the jumper wires and piggy backed chips on the OS and one RAM card. Don't recall those on the ones we had in my original 800. Any guess as too what's going on?
  18. I'm beginning to use Turbo Basic XL. I downloaded an atr from atari wiki with it on a SpartaDos disk. I've copied those files to my Sparta Dos 3.2g hard disk atr. I can boot and use Turbo Basic XL fine. But if I press the reset key while in it, it returns to Sparta Dos. And all work and the program are wiped from memory. Any Turbo Basic XL users no of a fix for this? Thanks.
  19. Thanks. I tried setting high speed to off this weekend. But maybe it didn't save. The fastest I can get SpartaDos 3.2 to boot is at 58K. I got it from the FTP site a mentioned above. Along with SD 3.2g. I had 3.2d from way back. Thought I got it from AtariMania. But when I looked this weekend, I found only 1.0. So I found the ones on the Holmes ftp site to try. And with it were these utility atr files.
  20. Here is the ATR file I created. SpartaDOS3_2_HD.atr.zip
  21. Tried the HD ATR on another machine running Altirra v3.20. It would not boot when using fastest generic disk emmulation. But will boot 57.6K.
  22. Didn’t try break. Get a blue screen with cursor frozen in upper left corner. Same thing if I press reset. i tried disabling high speed in the SIO2SD.
  23. Booted MyDos that came with SIO2SD on D1. Mounted the hard disk ATR ON D2. My dos shows gibberish and about 1900 sectors on D2. I was able to boot the Turbo BASIC XL ATR I got from AtariMania. But it has MyDOS. None of the Sparta DOS ATR files will boot on real hardware.
  24. Marius, I created the ATR using AspectQT. Then used then attached it to D3 of the emulator. Then booted Sparta DOS off D1. I tried booting all the SpartaDOS ATRs. I’ll try reading another ATR I have downloaded.
