Got mine for $30 at LameStop. Still have yet to even use it and probably never will. So long as I have a real system anyway. :P

I got mine from Gamestop and have been playing quite a bit. I like that it is so quick & easy to load the games.
Joystick is not great, but I've solved that with an old Gravis Gamepad PRO.

To me it's a great value at $30. I look forward to the full size version. It might just be that I am nostalgic about the C64. I owned one for many years. It was a great early 8 bit computer.

I'm pretty tired...Did you say $40 for a Chevy Citation?

  1. Keep rearranging my home, but I think we've finally settled on the half-converted attic becoming a library/office. Would also be a nice place to put my retrogame room, if only CRTs weren't 5 million tons and would have to go up stairs.

  2. Anybody else played TIS-100? Friend gifted it to me and I'm hooked.

      BurritoBeans

All those Zachtronics games are a ton of fun, I think Shenzhen I/O was my favorite but TIS-100 was definitely good - can't go wrong with any of them.

    2. deepthaw

      deepthaw

I've been forcing myself to not use walkthroughs or anything for TIS-100. Feels so good to figure them out for myself, then go back when I've learned more from later puzzles to optimize my earlier ones.

  3. Everybody else is like "Look at Sarah Conner in this new Terminator trailer!" and I'm over here thinking "That's a weird cover of a Björk song."

    1. Shawn

      Shawn

Most people that try and cover Bjork really screw it up. In this case I think it was very well done don't you?

  4. Pulled out ye olde record player and listening to Close to the Edge by Yes.

      BydoEmpire

Fantastic. This morning I was reading a Guitar World magazine from 1991(ish) that had a big Yes blowout, right before their tour with both lineups. I never realized that happened...

  5. I've gotten so good at replacing parts to repair my son's Joy Cons for his Switch, that I'm seriously considering charging other people to do it.

    1. deepthaw

      deepthaw

Or maybe I should start buying broken Joy Cons on the cheap, repairing, and reselling them? They're more fragile than one would hope.

      Skippy B. Coyote

That is the one big downer about the Switch, the analog sticks drifting if you so much as look at them wrong. I haven't had it happen to mine yet but I know it'll happen eventually. The Switch will probably end up being future generations of collectors' Atari 5200 lol

    3. deepthaw

Friend gave me four 5200 controllers the other day. The first two I tested worked, and I'm not touching the other two so that they can stay in a state of quantum-superposition with working.

  6. Friend just dropped off four 5200 controllers he found. First two I tested so far actually seem to work. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

  13. Who's Lori Loughlin's lawyer? Cause I wanna make sure I never hire him.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Exactly! My guess is they are simply waiting for a plea deal, yeah a second plea deal, because you can't get one with a guilty plea...if I understand correctly. Still....seems risky to me.

    2. Swami

      Swami

Its still been a shorter time than plea deals normally take. I think the difference is that the others' offenses were supposedly small by comparison. Although, all blocked a more deserving student candidate.

Cap'n Break'n: I'm speaking more generally of "objects fall towards the bottom of the screen and must be removed via grouping and pattern matching" type games.

Although I guess the definition could be twisted to fit Space Invaders.

The only reason I'm even considering it is I was given about 30 5200 games at the same time. I'd much rather have an Atari 8-Bit.

      BydoEmpire

^-- yup. That said, I was very pleased that I was able to order the exact bracket I needed for my maytag dishwasher and fix it myself in 10 minutes. They actually had the part, it wasn't ridiculous, and it all worked. +1 to Maytag, I've had good luck compared to other appliance brands. YMMV.

I keep hearing a lot of praise about the Sega Ages stuff but never really able to determine what makes them so great. Guess I'll have to fork over a few $$$ to try this and Phantasy Star

    3. deepthaw

      deepthaw

The praise is because they're very tastefully enhanced. Thunderforce IV has an option to disable slowdown (or at least slowdown the developers didn't design around), a "kid's mode" that makes it easier, sound tweaks (keep music from dropping out when audio samples play), etc. Phantasy Star has an automap added for dungeons among others. And all the extra features are optional and can be turned off.

    4. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

The SEGA AGES version is the only way I'll ever put up with this game and complete it (as I have always wanted to).

Good explainer of the differences here:

      https://postgamecontent.com/post/179890999413/phantasy-star-switch-sega-ages

@deepthaw "tastefully enhanced" is a nice way to say it.

  22. If professional baseball players can deal with some games having a designated hitter and some not, and every stadium being a different size with sometimes wildly different chances of hitting a homerun, why do professional Smash players have to turn off everything that makes the game interesting?

    1. deepthaw

      deepthaw

It's weird. They've taken what was in essence a party game, exploited the systems to turn it into a maddeningly execution heavy fighter *and* as a community decided to turn off 75% of the features that make it interesting.

    3. deepthaw

      deepthaw

I'll never be a pro fighting game player because I'm 40 and my reflexes aren't what they need to be. I'm squarely in that frustrating spot of "too good for my friends to enjoy playing me, but not good enough to play with the really skilled people."
