  1. You can play with only one button, but having two lets you choose whether to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.
  2. What's the point of having all these streaming services if none of them offer Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, or Spies Like Us?

^This!  While still not perfect, having a lot of DISH movie channels (which I no longer have *sigh*) to flip through allowed me to find something most of the time,  Like do I want a Horror movie?, do I want a gangster flick?, do I want an 80s movie? etc.,...Of course, that said I do still like Netflix, and I wish I had apps for all of those services on my DISH box...But Stream too much and you're not saving much, plus you have to really search (can't flip through channels) and may have streaming issues...

The biggest mistake I ever made was selling off my DVD collection because Netflix offered all of it, and I assumed it would stay that way.

I still also have a huge DVD collection and some Blu Rays too...

  3. I'm not ashamed to admit my decision to go for a freesync monitor with AMD card for my upgrade was partially to emulate PAL games and software without screen tearing.

  4. What's the original source for these? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-5200-Sticker-end-Labels-For-All-154-Custom-Game-Stickers/282713450720 If the seller themselves made them, I'd be fine with buying a nice set. If they're just printing and selling somebody else's work, I want to steer clear.
  5. Is there any difference in quality (if RF can be said to have any quality at all...) between an old fashioned "game/tv" rf switchbox and one of those simple RCA to Coax adapters?
  6. There really wasn't a good AND arcade-faithful port of Double Dragon to any system, was there?

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I'm not so sure even an Arcade Faithful Port would be Good...I see Double Dragon as a product of its time...Very fun in the 80s ...for about 3 weeks ... or so...Just seems like one of those ideas that didn't seem good for very long.  I put Rampage in the same boat...Jus my 2 cents...

i own the LYNX game. It's not good.

Some games may have been fun when they first came out, like say Karate Master or Karateka (TBH I get those 2 confused), but what good were those after Street Fighter 2 came out?

And although Double Dragon was fun for a time, wouldn't ya rather play a Streets of Rage game?

I do get it though,..I mean I still love Galaxian even though Galaga came out.

  7. It's not? The main benefits of their previous projects (Super NT and Mega SG) was that they were extremely accurate, lag-free and worked with original cartridges while bypassing the need for any kind of upscalers to get them working on modern displays. If you just want games on the go, the Vita's emulation is probably close enough to perfect that most people won't notice. Analogue stuff is geared towards the "audiophiles" of gaming. There *is* a tangible difference, but it takes some looking for.
  8. Cartridge adapters for the Mega SG are supposed to cost $9.99 when they come out, so I imagine they'll keep similar pricing on the adapters for the Pocket.
  9. I like that 1600x1440 is exactly 10x the resolution of the OG Gameboy. Gameboy was 160x144 Game Gear was 160x144 GBA was 240x160 Lynx was 160x102 NGPC was 160x152 WonderSwan was 224x144 At that screen size and pixel density, even the non-integer scaled systems should look beautiful. My only wish is a horizontal form factor, similar to the original GBA but hey, that's minor.
  10. Wonder what Bionic Lester's up to nowadays.

  11. In my younger, more skilled days, I played through the entirety of SMB2J. The "too difficult" moniker is correct. It's not a challenging kind of fun, it's a poor design and frustration kind of difficult. As others have said, it feels like a romhack. SMB2 USA was a superior game and a superior sequel.
  12. That new Boston Dynamics video was only a few steps away from pure dystopia. So I took those steps.

  13. Having gone back to read replies... Are people seriously bothered by this? Web hosting isn’t free. A lot of work goes into this site. They need a way to monetize users like me who visit sporadically enough that a $5/month sub is more than I feel would be worth throwing at it.
  14. Ads on a site like this are the type I'd be most likely to click on, because I imagine it's such a specific audience that stuff is actually relevant to me.
  15. I'd try prowling through the CRPG Addict's archives. He focuses on PC CRPGs but he's played a *lot* of obscure ones. http://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/ Is it Legend? http://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/2018/04/game-288-legend-1992.html
  16. Pulled an old PC out of storage to repurpose into a Minecraft server for my friends to play on. I'm seriously having more fun tweaking it than they are playing it.

Got mine for $30 at LameStop. Still have yet to even use it and probably never will. So long as I have a real system anyway. :P

      retrorandy

I got mine from Gamestop and have been playing quite a bit. I like that it is so quick & easy to load the games.
Joystick is not great, but I've solved that with an old Gravis Gamepad PRO.

To me it's a great value at $30. I look forward to the full size version. It might just be that I am nostalgic about the C64. I owned one for many years. It was a great early 8 bit computer.

I'm pretty tired...Did you say $40 for a Chevy Citation?

  17. Keep rearranging my home, but I think we've finally settled on the half-converted attic becoming a library/office. Would also be a nice place to put my retrogame room, if only CRTs weren't 5 million tons and would have to go up stairs.

  18. Anybody else played TIS-100? Friend gifted it to me and I'm hooked.

    1. BurritoBeans

      BurritoBeans

All those Zachtronics games are a ton of fun, I think Shenzhen I/O was my favorite but TIS-100 was definitely good - can't go wrong with any of them.

    2. deepthaw

      deepthaw

I've been forcing myself to not use walkthroughs or anything for TIS-100. Feels so good to figure them out for myself, then go back when I've learned more from later puzzles to optimize my earlier ones.

  19. Got accepted into the GeForce Now beta a month or so ago, but finally decided to give it a spin. Bought Doom 2016 which my PC can't really run at all, and played it for about two hours last night. Have 500Mbps Internet at home, connected via 5Ghz wifi (I know, I should be doing Ethernet.) Worked surprisingly well. I can't really notice any input lag, and while the image quality is noticably softer and mpeg-y, the game's been a hell of a lot of fun to play this. I'd still prefer to be able to play it on my own machine, but the technology for this definitely seems better than expected.
  20. Everybody else is like "Look at Sarah Conner in this new Terminator trailer!" and I'm over here thinking "That's a weird cover of a Björk song."

    1. Shawn

      Shawn

Most people that try and cover Bjork really screw it up. In this case I think it was very well done don't you?

  21. Pulled out ye olde record player and listening to Close to the Edge by Yes.

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Fantastic. This morning I was reading a Guitar World magazine from 1991(ish) that had a big Yes blowout, right before their tour with both lineups. I never realized that happened...

  22. Yeah, these devs need to be careful openly pulling off this kind of black magic for fear of being burned at the stake for witchcraft.
  23. I've gotten so good at replacing parts to repair my son's Joy Cons for his Switch, that I'm seriously considering charging other people to do it.

    1. deepthaw

      deepthaw

Or maybe I should start buying broken Joy Cons on the cheap, repairing, and reselling them? They're more fragile than one would hope.

That is the one big downer about the Switch, the analog sticks drifting if you so much as look at them wrong. I haven't had it happen to mine yet but I know it'll happen eventually. The Switch will probably end up being future generations of collectors' Atari 5200 lol

Friend gave me four 5200 controllers the other day. The first two I tested worked, and I'm not touching the other two so that they can stay in a state of quantum-superposition with working.

  24. Friend just dropped off four 5200 controllers he found. First two I tested so far actually seem to work. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.
