  1. I think he means people consider it the first 32-bit CD-ROM based system (at least according to Wikipedia.) Apparently it had a 386sx, and I'm wondering how I'd never heard of it before.
  2. Namco's System 11 was based on the PlayStation as well.
  3. I don't see any way the PS3 was "light years" ahead of the Xbox 360, and I'm unaware of any traditional processors of today that the Cell beats out. The Neo*Geo *was* light years ahead, but feels a bit like cheating since it wasn't really aimed at the same market. But it was unique in the overpriced console family ($699 3DO?) in that it wasn't immediately overshadowed by another system (RIP 3DO, 9/9/95. Long live PS1.) If you look at the portable space, Nintendo's offerings regularly got trounced specs-wise by handhelds that *were* light years ahead. Yet all of them fell before the juggernaut that is Big N when it came to market share.
  4. Been playing a lot of Quake 1 lately. Finished it on hard, working on the mission packs now.

I still need to finish the second mission pack. I found it to be a significant difficulty spike over the base game and the first mission back.

  5. Been on an 80’s movie kick of late. Watched Fletch, Stripes, UHF, Beverly Hills Cop, and about to start Lethal Weapon.

How did "Fletch" hold up? Stripes is still great, just watched it last year.

Eeeeh... It has its moments, but as an adult, it's all the more obvious it's just Chevy Chase's excuse to dress up and play not particularly funny characters.

We saw Chevy at a Screening of "Caddyshack" a few months back.  He answered questions for around 90 minutes afterwards. He came off very likeable and still funny. Said Fletch is one of his favorite movies he was in....My 15 yr old son LOVED Caddyshack and thought Chevy was cool. We both are huge fans of the TV show "Community".

  6. Groop, I implore thee.

  7. Is it the best? No. But Eternal Darkness deserves a place in the top tier.
  8. Sega Ages + ACA Neo*Geo + assorted other ports has truly made the Switch fantastic for the old-man gamer. Do PS4 and XBone get as much love in that area?
  9. I despise stock Intel CPU fans. On the plus side, the upgrade is complete.

Don't think that was my fault.

The older LGA775 fans and sinks seemed to be slightly better made than what they currently produce.

  10. They called me MAD when I said i was going to mod a Jaguar controller to use a rotary phone dial in place of the keypad. Turns out they were right.

I remember the opposite: The pulse phones where you push a button on the phone keypad and it would click the number of times for the key. Unsure what it did for star or asterisk, probably 11 or 12. Anyhoot, ? those Jaguars ? just don't like your rotary phone clicks.

  11. Wish the fire buttons on the left-stick version weren't so close to the two start/reset/pause buttons. Still, one of these will probably be a gift to myself this Christmas.
  12. Hard to tell. We'd have to know the precise brand and model. There's been a number of Genesis controller re-releases recently, some of which are actually intended to work with original hardware, some with modern systems and the Genesis mini. My guess would be that if Best Buy carries them, they're the USB versions for use on modern consoles as well as the Genesis mini. http://retro-bit.com/sega-collaboration
  13. What's the point of having all these streaming services if none of them offer Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, or Spies Like Us?

^This!  While still not perfect, having a lot of DISH movie channels (which I no longer have *sigh*) to flip through allowed me to find something most of the time,  Like do I want a Horror movie?, do I want a gangster flick?, do I want an 80s movie? etc.,...Of course, that said I do still like Netflix, and I wish I had apps for all of those services on my DISH box...But Stream too much and you're not saving much, plus you have to really search (can't flip through channels) and may have streaming issues...

The biggest mistake I ever made was selling off my DVD collection because Netflix offered all of it, and I assumed it would stay that way.

I still also have a huge DVD collection and some Blu Rays too...

  14. I'm not ashamed to admit my decision to go for a freesync monitor with AMD card for my upgrade was partially to emulate PAL games and software without screen tearing.

  15. What's the original source for these? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-5200-Sticker-end-Labels-For-All-154-Custom-Game-Stickers/282713450720 If the seller themselves made them, I'd be fine with buying a nice set. If they're just printing and selling somebody else's work, I want to steer clear.
  16. Is there any difference in quality (if RF can be said to have any quality at all...) between an old fashioned "game/tv" rf switchbox and one of those simple RCA to Coax adapters?
  17. There really wasn't a good AND arcade-faithful port of Double Dragon to any system, was there?

I'm not so sure even an Arcade Faithful Port would be Good...I see Double Dragon as a product of its time...Very fun in the 80s ...for about 3 weeks ... or so...Just seems like one of those ideas that didn't seem good for very long.  I put Rampage in the same boat...Jus my 2 cents...

i own the LYNX game. It's not good.

Some games may have been fun when they first came out, like say Karate Master or Karateka (TBH I get those 2 confused), but what good were those after Street Fighter 2 came out?

And although Double Dragon was fun for a time, wouldn't ya rather play a Streets of Rage game?

I do get it though,..I mean I still love Galaxian even though Galaga came out.

  18. It's not? The main benefits of their previous projects (Super NT and Mega SG) was that they were extremely accurate, lag-free and worked with original cartridges while bypassing the need for any kind of upscalers to get them working on modern displays. If you just want games on the go, the Vita's emulation is probably close enough to perfect that most people won't notice. Analogue stuff is geared towards the "audiophiles" of gaming. There *is* a tangible difference, but it takes some looking for.
  19. Cartridge adapters for the Mega SG are supposed to cost $9.99 when they come out, so I imagine they'll keep similar pricing on the adapters for the Pocket.
  20. I like that 1600x1440 is exactly 10x the resolution of the OG Gameboy. Gameboy was 160x144 Game Gear was 160x144 GBA was 240x160 Lynx was 160x102 NGPC was 160x152 WonderSwan was 224x144 At that screen size and pixel density, even the non-integer scaled systems should look beautiful. My only wish is a horizontal form factor, similar to the original GBA but hey, that's minor.
  21. Wonder what Bionic Lester's up to nowadays.

  22. In my younger, more skilled days, I played through the entirety of SMB2J. The "too difficult" moniker is correct. It's not a challenging kind of fun, it's a poor design and frustration kind of difficult. As others have said, it feels like a romhack. SMB2 USA was a superior game and a superior sequel.
  23. That new Boston Dynamics video was only a few steps away from pure dystopia. So I took those steps.

  24. Having gone back to read replies... Are people seriously bothered by this? Web hosting isn’t free. A lot of work goes into this site. They need a way to monetize users like me who visit sporadically enough that a $5/month sub is more than I feel would be worth throwing at it.
