  1. DM-Morpheus for life.

  2. Son loves his Nintendo Labo even more than I expected. Smash had turned into daddy’s present.

My daughter loves it too. Which ones have you got? She just got the vehicle one, so we have them all now. She loves to build stuff, like Lego and this keeps her busy for hours.

  3. Oh, Dungeon Keeper 2. How I love you, but I don't love how you crash.

  4. Bought Interstate '76 for $1.99 off GOG. Do they even make games like this anymore? Seems it's all Cinematic Action or Medal of Call of Duty Honor: WWII Redux.

      That's a fun game.

I built a racing cockpit with full "top of the line at the time" Force Feedback Wheel/pedal/shifter setup for sim racing, and Interstate '76 got more play time than any racing sim on the market. That game was a blast!

It's one of my favourite games of all time. Still haven't tried I'82 though.

  6. Xenon 2 is a prime example of me liking a game more than I should just because of the soundtrack.

Cool World for SNES! (I just always dug the music :)

  7. Replaying Wizardry and named my party after LOTR characters. Boromir died in the third room. Fitting.

  8. Ikaruga, Thunder Force IV and now R-Type Dimensions. Switch is becoming quite the shooter machine.

  9. Apparently some of the games on the US PlayStation classic are based on the PAL versions, and run at PAL speeds. WTF Sony? I hope the reviewer is just wrong here... https://kotaku.com/playstation-classic-the-kotaku-review-1830668016

They really shouldn't release this unless it's perfect though...(Otherwise) The Nintendo stuff being Better is something they'll never live down.

It makes it to market in 6 days. I don't think they can change anything...

Ugh. Awful. "Moving onto the PAL titles, the situation worsens. Tekken 3 does indeed run at 83.3 per cent of its intended speed, but more than that is the fact that a 50Hz gameplay is dropped into the Classic's 60Hz output, giving obvious judder. Looking at raw video captures, every sixth frame is a duplicate - there isn't even the rudimentary frame-blending used in PAL PS2 Classics running on PlayStation 4. In fact, Tekken 3 also includes regular 50ms frame-time spikes - two drop...

  10. Wish I hadn't been such a Nintendo fanboy as a kid. There are some seriously badass Genesis games out there.

I am with Jin, just now really REALLY realizing how good some SNES games are. Battletoads vs Double Dragon and Pirates of Dark Water are recent discoveries I'm really enjoying. :)

I had an NES, then SNES and Genesis! I suppose one could argue what I really missed out on was Turbografx...Though I had a couple of friends with them. Nowadays I have them all! Don't forget the Turbografx though, they're Great too!!

      Flojomojo

Nobody had enough time and money to play everything back then.

Now with retro compilations and emulation, it's only a matter of not having enough time.

Especially for the time sink RPGs!

  13. From poking around on my old LCD monitor, it would appear to support 50hz refresh. Except it displays an "out of range" error, despite the image appearing good and solid. Grr.

  14. Who was talking about strategy guides earlier? Timely, because Prima announced they're closing up shop.

Reminds me: My local classic gaming/comic shop has a boxed set of the three "How to win at Nintendo Games" books for like $10. Should grab it for old times' sake.

  18. Watching videos of NES emulators that remove sprite flickering is like seeing a whole new system.

    1. Kiwi

      Kiwi

Some game will flicker if there's more than 64 sprites like Capcom games.

    2. mbd30

      mbd30

Meh. The flicker is part of the NES experience so I'd rather leave it in. It never bothers me much.

  19. Hate selling limited edition stuff that I can't find a transaction history for on eBay... Am I getting what it's worth? Is this auction going to be how the world determines what it's worth?

    1. deepthaw

      deepthaw

The non-limited edition has sold consistently at one price, so I said a buy it now of double that and I'll see what happens.

    2. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

The market will decide what it's worth. Sometimes it's surprising, often in a good way.

    3. deepthaw

      deepthaw

Well, the market has decided it's worth $79.99 with 9 days to go, so it's looking good.

Depending on the work involved, be prepared to bring it back. Perhaps several times.

And if anyone involved in the repair process thinks that pulling codes related to a check engine light can tell them everything they need to know in order to fix the problem... Run, do not walk, away.

    2. Swami

      Swami

The weird thing about most auto repair places is that they are like GP doctors. They start with the most common cause of an ailment and work their way down, charging you for each repair whether it is the actual cause or not. If what they do does not fix anything, will they still charge you for it?

    3. deepthaw

      deepthaw

It’s a brake problem. Stuck caliper. I figured it out myself and the instructor verified it. They’re charging $50 + parts at cost. If it was something like a transmission rebuild, I would definitely take it to a professional shop.

SNES was the first one I played, and definitely benefits from the added features. 2K is nice too, but the GBA port seems kind of buggy.

Wasn't SimAnt the "Buggy" one? ... Hehaa I crack myself up over here :)

    4. CGQuarterly

      CGQuarterly

I always enjoyed Sim City 3000. When Sim City 4 came out, it seemed like no computer at the time could competently run it. I had a pretty high-end gaming machine at the time, and it struggled with the game. So I went back to playing 3000. My favorite will always be the original, though.

  22. Having found out much of the stuff in this house I bought last year already has z-wave support, considering upgrading to a smart home. May build my own hub from a spare Raspberry Pi.

Damn, I've just recovered my old maps from storage and wanted to jump back in - but now my saves are gone :/ I love these games so much though I don't mind starting again from the beginning....

May switch to the Amiga version for Curse of the Azure Bonds. Probably can't bring my characters over, but since they lose their equipment at the start, demihumans will hit the level cap already, and I couldn't make a Paladin or Ranger for PoR... No huge loss.

  24. Ugh. Finally doing good in the grindfest that is the final battle of the Kobold caves in Pool of Radiance.. And the game crashes.

Are you playing your own copy, or through gog.com?

Gog copy via dosbox. On a Mac so no gold box companion.

    3. deepthaw

      deepthaw

I have a boxed copy, but I don't even remember what platform the disks are for (I bought it for collector's sake.)

  25. Didn't realize the input lag on my 4K HDTV was so good (13.5ms). When I finally pick up an OSSC, that means I'll be doing my classic games with 1 frame of input lag, which is good enough to not make space for my Trinitron (for now.)

    1. deepthaw

      deepthaw

Vizio D50u-D1. It's discontinued, I bought it a year or two ago refurbed from Amazon on the cheap specifically for the input lag (I used to play a lot of Rock Band & Street Fighter.)

    2. deepthaw

      deepthaw

What does suck is that only one of the HDMI inputs has that low of input lag. If I want more than one game system, I'll need to get an external HDMI switcher. :\

    3. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

I hope this stupid issue goes away, and that all modern TVs come with low latency over all HDMI ports.
