My brother bought a gameboy color for like $2 at a garage sale. It came with one game; I don't remember the name, but it was some kind of WWII game, where you blow up tanks and stuff. The resolution was kind of crappy, so I couldn't really see what was going on. Anyway, we noticed that a lot of the words were spelled wrong, and we thought it was just crappy programming. Then we finally realized the entire game was in German! Apparently, the mispelled words were not mispelled, just in German. Needless to say, we blamed our ignorance on the poor resolution.

I wish I had this game. It looks sweet! Anything involving little kids and backward pants is hilarious. Throw in rap and you've got yourself a comedy routine. How could anyone NOT want to own that? It's like selling laughter!

That redonkulous Scottish accent in Warcraft II is easily one of the funniest things I've ever heard: "I lahk blowin' thengs op!" Absolutely priceless.

Well, if you are going to use Andrew Krieg's NES list, why use an ancient version from 1998? His (much) more recent NES list can be found here, along with all of his other videogame lists: Andrew Krieg's Video Game Hunter's Oasis 865268[/snapback] Oh... That was just the first one I found.

If you like metroid, check this site out: http://www.metroidmetal.com/ It's a metal band playing all the songs from the first Metroid and Super Metroid. I thought they were pretty sweet. Brough back some memories.

I think the reason they're becoming so collectible/expensive is because they break so easily. Everyone gets the "flash screen" and they're ready to throw them away and find a new one that works. And also because there was something like 700 games released for the NES (I think, I know there was a lot), and less than 50% of them suck, which is more than what you can say for the newer systems. In my opinion.

If anybody's still interested, I finished this thing (I think): http://www.wou.edu/~tmontg1/atari/SpriteCr...SCLauncher.html Enjoy!

That Mega Man X Battle and Chase game sounds sweet! It sounds like a cross between Mario Kart and that old NES game BaseWars, which also allowed you to power your players up with machine guns and stuff when you beat another team. That would definitely be pretty sweet to have all 6 MMX games on one disc.

I'm the one who created this thing, by the way. And just so there's no bad blood, I basically ripped off the idea from Kirk Israel, but I started it like two weeks ago, before he made all the changes. I originally only started making this because his playerPal responded slowly, and the layout was kind of confusing (in my opinion). However, now that he's upgraded substantially, it kind of neutered everything I set out to do. So now mine is more of an alternative to his... That was actually my original intent when starting this project, but I kind of got bogged down. Since I know next to nothing about Atari 2600 programming, I was mainly just trying to make everything accurate. In response to your question, I originally had an option to load/save to separate files, but I took them out because 1) they were pissing me off, and 2) because you can just cut and paste your code whever you want, although that's a little inconvenient compared to clicking on a button and finding a file. I'll see if I can incorporate them back in, though. And there's still a couple bugs in it. Most noticeably, when you try to change the color, it doesn't always change everything it should. And I need tweak the code input/output a little bit, too. Thanks for the feedback!

Will you hold off to buy a Xbox360 over PS3?
tmont replied to Dones's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Just the mere possibility of being able to play The Legend of Zelda without fear of the NES screwing up is enough to make me want to buy the Revolution. And Revolution is a cool name. -

Contra - A Nearly Flawless Game
tmont replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I beat Contra losing just one life last year, when I lived in the college dorms. I beat a lot of games I had never beat before, like Mario 1,2,3 and Zelda II. I discovered that if you live in a college dorm, you have to play video games. And if you have Contra and you live in a college dorm, you have to beat it while your friends watch. -
I didn't mean to offend anyone, but I was just trying to say there are a lot of games for every system, and you can definitely find at least 10 games on every system that you like. But I think we're going to disagree that "tons of systems" don't have at least one hundred releases. Can you name one ton of systems that don't have at least 100 hundred releases? Regardless, my main point was that you shouldn't just hate the PS because you didn't like a couple games. There are plenty of games for the PS to please everyone in some way. The only reason you should be "hating" a system is some hardware grievance, like controls, graphics, lack of space, loading times, etc.

Actually, the eels turn around and try to eat you. And that's a pretty cool twist to the gameplay. Makes it a bit more interesting. You can't just hide behind a slow moving eel, anymore! I like the new scoring system, seems to make a bit more sense. And easily the best music I've ever heard in my entire life. But then, I'm a little biased.

I just got that game for my birthday last week. It's pretty hilarious. I also got this game where you play a crew of Lego guys exploring an alien planet, or something. If Sony programmers had enough time on their hands to come up with that idea, then you know there were enough decent games released for the PS. I don't think you can "hate" a system based on the games, because every system has at least several hundred releases (except maybe for the handhelds). I'm not a huge fan of the XBOX, but it's more because I don't like the controllers than having anything to do with game selection.

Galaga was the only game I was willing to pay a quarter to play in the arcades.

I remember seeing an ad for Mega Man for the NES in my brother's Nintendo Power. I think it was actually after it came out (it was an old magazine), but I was like 6. I remember looking at Elec Man's (probably the best name in the game, besides Guts Man) stage and wondering if it could possibly be any cooler than it looked. And it was. And then my brother's really ugly friend stole the game from us...

See if anything strikes your fancy from these guys (and me): Topic: Favorite Playstation Games? It seems to me like your selection in games was poor, not necessarily the system. The playstation is one of my favorites because there are so many games, and they are all fairly cheap. I think everyone's main beef with the PS (now) is that the graphics are so inferior to the PS2 and the XBOX. Since 3D graphics-rendering was just coming into its own at rougly the time the PS came out, I think a lot of the PS games were trying to hard to make it look realistic. I don't know if it's just me, but I want my video games to be separate from reality. I want to have gynormous swords and kill ugly monsters and have a giant moustache (you know what I mean, pervert). I don't want it to look like I'm actually killing real humans; that's just kind of creepy. As a conclusion to this unnecessarily long-winded rambling, I would say try to find games that look like they were programmed to play good, not look good. At least for the PS, that is where you'll strike out. Nowadays, the XBOX and PS2 make games that look and play good, but that wasn't really possible at the time of the PS. Or something like that.

For a while I was trying to get my hands on every Final Fantasy game, not necessarily the original version, since a lot of the early ones were only released in Japan. Since Square started rereleasing the early FF games on PS (one of them was coupled with Chrono Trigger), I got into it pretty hard core. The only one I'm missing is FF3, which I'm told is one of the best.

I'm kind of surprised that someone (two people, I think) mentioned Oddworld. I got that game last year for PS and I thought it was pretty hilarious. I played it for a while and then got stuck, and I haven't played it since. I thought it was a really cool idea, since the thinking man's puzzle game genre has kind of gone out of vogue. I didn't know anybody besides me had ever heard of it. On a related side note, want to make $25 playing Oddworld? Playstation bounties! And I forgot Crash Bandicoot! Of course, it's basically the same game as Spyro, although instead of the cute purple dragon you're a fox (or something).

What are your favorite Playstation games? I'm talking the original Playstation. It's probably my favorite system to own right now, given that the games are in such abundance everywhere, and rarely climb above $20. It seems like you can't go to a used game store without seeing about 300 PS games lining the wall. And that's what I like to see. Lots and lots of games lining walls. My personal favorites are: Spyro: Year of the Dragon Chrono Cross Anything Mega Man

Want to hear the real version of General Custer and his love for pixel-shaped women? Check this out: http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/naughty03.htm I wouldn't show this to your mom, though. Of course, if you know about this game, you're certainly not going to tell your mom about it.

Apparently I'm the first one to download the new version. This is the first time I've played it, and it looks pretty good! I couldn't actually get past the third level (I played twice and died on the third level twice). Nice sound effects. I also liked your creative use of the color pallette. Suggestions for a larger version: -Make the mothership do something, like shoot at you (which I think was mentioned above) or gradually move closer to you. It's kind of boring to just blast it for like a minute. And the last square of the mothership always pisses me off. -Maybe allow for vertical control, too. As in, instead of merely moving left to right, you can move up and down, too. I don't know if that would enhance the game at all, but it's something to consider. -More powerups, like stronger shot, invincibility, spread shot, etc. -Maybe instead of just fighting the mothership, there are "baby" ships that fly around and annoy you, too. I'm just trying to think of ways to make destroying the mother ship a little harder. -Instead of the gray bar indicating your shields, maybe have an actual number (like 75%). I don't know, I like numbers... -Music, perhaps... I look forward to a larger version!
