Just a "this game is freakin' sweet" comment.......This game is an example (of many) of how enjoyable this hobby of 1980's retro gaming can be. The crow on level 3 is starting to piss me off but otherwise I am thoroughly enjoying this recent purchase. And again, props for this very informative thread. I initially thought that I could not play Bigfoot without the MBX set up.
-
Just a "thank you" to all who contributed to this thread. I came across Bigfoot today on Ebay, got intrigued, started wondering what in the hell a MBX was and finally found this thread. Knowing that having a MBX is not a requirement to play this game was very helpful. Cart will be on its way, manual is already printed and I do have a speech synthesizer .........

What's your favourite Atarisoft game for TI-99?
TeddyBear89 replied to pixelpedant's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
After 35 years, I am a recent returnee to the beloved TI 99/4a and own Donkey Kong, Shamus, Moon Patrol and Pole Position. Other than Shamus (which I have barely touched) I am very impressed with the other three games. I would have went ape-shit in 1982/83 after seeing how good of a conversion Donkey Kong is! Moon Patrol is really good too (but I prefer the 5200 port) and I was pleasantly surprised with Pole Position. I think it easily beats its 2600 and C-64 cousins. Granted, the other cars look awful but I find this version to be a faithful and fluid version all things considered. Two things: Do NOT invite me into your TI-99/4a wormhole! I am pretty happy with most of the carts I have grabbed so far (Miner 2049er, Burgertime, TI Invaders, Parsec, Car Wars, Super Demon Attack and Qbert) and prefer to keep it that way. I saw that a Frogger went for $40+ over the weekend on Ebay...... Also, who voted for Picnic Paranoia as the best Atarisoft game? As a joke, right? From all my TI research this game is about neck to neck as the worst game ever released on any 1980's system. -
Buy and sell with 100% confidence with Omega-TI. Items packaged safely and securely, an elite AtariAger and overall great guy!

1980's Parker Brothers Promotion
TeddyBear89 replied to TeddyBear89's topic in Classic Console Discussion
As I have been going through (and organizing) my entire collection I again came across several Parker Brothers game manuals that had the front corner proof of purchase cut off. While it could have been for a Popeye arcade cabinet contest there are just too many manuals that have this corner missing on Ebay and even the AA For Sale/Trade sections. It must have been a "get a free game in the mail" promotion....but what for? Just doing a topic bump because not knowing is driving me crazy! I know, first world problems...... -
Thank you for the response. If I had performed my due diligence prior I would have discovered the Odyssey does indeed have two different power port designs. I have been using a NES adapter for my O2.
-
To expand on my inquiry, I know that this is for powering an Odyssey 2 but the two I own have no place for what appears to be a 3.5 mm jack. It can't be for The Voice either so I am a little confused on what it could be used for. I just don't want to be made fun of.
-
Greetings all, What is this adapter for? The input on the left looks like it is meant for a 3.5 mm jack - but why? I am going through a box of electronics junk and came across this plug. It doesn't appear to be a homemade rigging but I am not that well-versed in Odyssey 2 stuff.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
TeddyBear89 replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sweet haul! I love photo spams like this.....seeing Bowie's Never Let Me Down album immediately sent my memory back to his 1987 Glass Spider tour (and the only time I saw him live) Album covers and 45 sleeves.......what a long lost art that today's generation just doesn't get. -
Computers in grade school/high school?
TeddyBear89 replied to MHaensel's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I always enjoy these types of threads (especially for those of us that were teenagers in the 1980's) and fondly recall the high school computer lab filled with Apple IIes. Equally memorable was stealing more than a few DOS boot disks from this lab so that a friend could make me a copy of the latest Commodore 64 games that he obtained. Those disks were like a dollar each and to an unemployed 16 year old wanting a copy of the 4th and Inches game that his buddy raved about it..... this theft seemed like a no-brainer decision. The teacher finally noticed that she was missing several boot disks and started having us sign them in and out. Yes, I know now that stealing is wrong and I am sorry. -
Super Chef BT - I'm the all-time champ!
TeddyBear89 replied to TeddyBear89's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
It was a great 5 days as the reigning psuedo King, let me tell you....... I would point out that I got to a higher level but I am guessing that based on your score you would have no issues getting to Level 4. You're obviously racking up 4000 and 8000 points per drop taking the baddies down for a hamburger ride so there is no doubting it. Not to mention that you get an extra chef for every 10,000 points - you must have had a ton in reserve. Kudos Good Sir! -
This is very cool. And you couldn't be more right about Tower Toppler. Anyone who has the patience to complete all the levels deserves a hell of a lot more than that lame end screen!

Super Chef BT - I'm the all-time champ!
TeddyBear89 replied to TeddyBear89's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Some kind of braggart I am.......here's the proof: -
Well, probably not. But I wish to gloat anyhow........ After YEARS of trying to get to level 4, yesterday I finally succeeded. Using Zen, beers and a clear mind free of worry and doubt I stocked up on the pepper and played the game of my life. I can't imagine anyone making it to level five (if it even exists) as the bad guys' speed is faster than your chef on level four. You'll use all your peppers just to keep them from catching you from behind. Hand to heart, this is my favorite game ever for the Intellivision. Take the superb Inty Burgertime, add 62 more boards and a difficulty level that ramps up perfectly and you have the best game for the system. David H. is an Intellivision HOF'er in my book.

While not the originals, have you looked into these repos? I got Qbert and Frogger a while back and was more than satisfied (and saved some major money that the originals command)

Like I mentioned, I think I have enough CRTs to last me the rest of my days. But still, sometimes on garbage day I'll see one put out. I've actually gotten out of my car, looked at the back to see if it has S-Video and multiple composite inputs and almost want to knock on the door to ask if it was still working. It takes some restraint at times, telling myself "enough is enough"..... Best of luck on the TV search - ask co-workers, neighbors, extended family members......you might get lucky!
-
Is there anything special about this TV? I certainly agree that the guy packaged it like a dope but I doubt that I'd ever want any old-school TV shipped to me for reasons like this. I am a big CRT fan, have 7 of various sizes in reserve that I hopefully assume will last me the rest of my lifetime. I know that Goodwills and thrift stores are no longer accepting these TV as donations but still on occasion see some nice ones put out on garbage day. I actually got a few good ones for free just by putting out the word at my job that if anyone was looking to get rid of these beasts that I'd come and take it off their hands. 27" and smaller, of course 🙂

"Looks like I need to add overtime. I am thinking that once you go into overtime, the game ends when a score is made. Is this correct? " For purposes of this football game, this is probably the way to go. Technically, if the first team with the ball scores a TOUCHDOWN in overtime the game is over. If the same team scores a FIELD GOAL, the other team gets the ball back. If they score a a touchdown, game is over. If the second team scores a field goal, the game continues until the next team scores or the overtime period expires - then it is a true tie. The OT rules changed a few years ago to try to make things fairer. I think statistically the team who had the ball first in OT won like 70% of the time (because all that was needed was a field goal). Again, I am lovin' the 5 minute quarters!
-
I am happy to report that the 5 minute per quarter option is a success. Game play is the same and you are a lot more mindful of the clock. And I learned something today......there is no overtime. My first game ended as a 21-21 tie and after consulting the manual there is no mention of overtime. As I scored the last touchdown with 24 seconds left on the clock I could not help but to wish for the 2-point option. Nevertheless, the quarter option alone makes this great game even better. If you are a Super Pro Football fan (and someone who likes to complete the game) this is worthwhile. Thank you David!
-
As I am happily off work for an extended period of time, this will certainly be my highest priority! I shall be checking my mailbox by the hour - thank you David!

Aside from the music, I always thought that the 2600 Montezuma's Revenge was on par with Pitfall II Lost Caverns as the showcase adventure game for the VCS. The game offers three deep and challenging levels that you'll spend lots of time exploring.
