  1. I'm sure I don't actually need to say this, but when one of you receives the FB2+ (thus confirming that Atari didn't send you a resealed box containing just Hope, with a label that said "Don't open, Pandora!"), make sure to post about it in this thread. I'll then update my plug-n-play listing.

Got mine over an hour ago via UPS to my front door where I met the driver for it.

It's real, a Flashback 2+ exactly like those pictures posted by Curt earlier in this thread with its box, old Atari logo, XL Atari 2600 T-Shirt, Sports Arena games Double Dunk, Realsports Boxing, Realsports Soccer, Super Baseball, Super Football, also, both Yars' Return and Lunar Lander are no longer out of adjustment or flicker.

Circus Atari is that new "Top Secret" menu game.

Thanks again Curt, Marty et al at Legacy Engineering!

I forgot to add the original Atari "7800" Flashback, it would be tied for 10th, also made a correction to JAKKS in my quote!

  3. Let me put it this way: first of all, I doubt that any of us couch potatoes have come up with any Flashback ideas that the guys at Legacy Engineering haven't already thought of and rejected a long time ago. Second, when Legacy announces a new product, and one of us responds and says (in effect) "that's great, but why didn't you do X instead?", it's not too hard to see this as nitpicking...

Sounds like you'd rather just have someone post how great this news was followed by everyone posting +1 to signal their agreement.

All that happened was someone speculated if the game was Indy 500 (They've stated the hidden game won't use the joystick), Legacy Engineering said it isn't due to the copyrighted name, and two of us pointed out how easy that was to work around.

Sorry, but to echo a saying popularized during WWII to remind the public to avoid unessential traveling, I don't think this trip you took us on was necessary.

And with that, I'll end it. We've taken this thread off topic far enough. I for one know I can't wait to get this great product and I've already preordered (Along with playing that game everyday hoping I win another).

Thanks, that needed to be said!

  4. So these guys are gods and beyond reproach?

No. They're some of the few people on these boards who put in the time and effort to create something at the level of a quality mainstream consumer product, instead of spending their lives arguing and daydreaming and living in the land of "wouldn't it be nice." I'm not saying that they deserve to be worshiped or that they're beyond reproach; I'm saying that they should get the respect they deserve.

Their reward was my predorder for one and I presume Atari paid them or did they do it for free?

People quit well-paying jobs all the time because they find the jobs annoying, or boring, or because they feel they aren't appreciated. I would argue that these other non-tangible forms of compensation are even more important than money. By writing the kinds of posts you've written, you're detracting from the sense of satisfaction that Curt and Co. are able to derive from putting a product on the marketplace and seeing it enjoyed by those of us who can appreciate it the most, whether that was your intention or not. Your one little preorder is no compensation.

My one "little preorder"?! All those small orders add up. Like I said in this thread before, companies who think your way either wonder why they lose money every year or go bankrupt.

Since you obviously missed this reply, I'll repost it here again now, taken from Post #187...

Pestering the Legacy Engineering guys with endless little "whydidntya" questions accomplishes nothing except annoying them and discouraging future products.

If this is all that it takes to discourage future products from these guys then they're being petty and are too thin skinned!

These questions of mine were never even close to a personal attack, nor should anybody else take them as such, on Legacy Engineering and Curt who have brought us 3 fantastic Flashbacks.

You misunderstand, I have the utmost respect for Legacy Engineering and Curt because of everything that they do for us!

  6. I would know that comes with the territory.

So, if they decide that they're tired of being picked apart by gnats and fleas on message boards every time they create something and announce that there won't be any new Flashbacks, will you come out and say that they're lame because they wouldn't take all the crap that you kept giving them? Is that their reward for the privilege of giving you something new to enjoy?

If you call it crap, then what in the heck is this world coming to?!

Their reward was my predorder and I presume Atari paid them or did they do a job for free?

  7. Asking legit questions is one thing. Asking the same questions over and over again in a bunch of different variations ("Why didn't you include game X?" "Why didn't you just rename it to avoid licensing fees?" "If you included X, why didn't you include Y, too?", etc) is another.

Curt & Co. don't owe anyone explanations. They were contracted to do a job for Atari, and they did it. These guys scrambled like mad dogs to get this done.

Let's thank them for their hard work rather than bully them with a bunch of questions: "Why isn't my favorite game included?" etc. It ain't included because it ain't included. 'nuf said.

I already did by preordering one!

So are these guys now gods and as such beyond reproach?

  8. Two guys ask legit questions about something and you call that "pestering", so what's the point of this forum, shut it down then!

"Why didn't you just rename it to avoid licensing fees?" "If you included X, why didn't you include Y, too?", etc) is another. If you were Curt or Marty, would you enjoy being on the receiving end of these kinds of questions after working so hard to create the Flashback series and to get it on store shelves at a reasonable price?

I would know that it comes with the territory.

  9. I know, and it went unanswered so I thought I'd ask the question again and point out that a simple renaming or going with the alternate title would resolve any licensing issues with Indy 500.

Indy 500 requires a special driving controller, so what would be the point of including it? The controllers might not even be compatible with the FB2+ for the same reason that the Star Raiders touchpads won't work without modification. As I said before, if you want a special game (like Indy 500) that badly, just mod the console and add a cartridge slot. Pestering the Legacy Engineering guys with endless "whydidntya" questions does nothing except annoy them and discourage future products.

Paddles were also special controllers that are similar in every way but one, Driving Controllers turn all the way around without stopping, so why does a Paddle work with Arcade Pong and that hidden easter egg Paddle Games, now Top Secret menu?

  10.

Nope. Atari doesn't own the rights to the name.

Change the name to something like 500 or or use the Sears name for the game which was Race. There's no IP from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway being used in the game beyond the title "Indy 500".

I already asked this question back on page 6 in our thread here look @ Post #145...

Well, you technically added another hidden paddle game, making it 43, so why not, was this also a time issue or would that have cost more, what?

    :)

Well now, it's not stated outright that it's a paddle game, just that it uses a non-joystick non-keypad controller. It could very well be Indy 500!

That was my hope as well, but the name Indy 500 is licensed, maybe Curt went with its Race title by Sears or could that also have licensing issues?

  11. the James Cameron attitude effect, see my movie, make me money, but, to put it mildly, forget about any autographs!

FYI: The Jim Cameron thing was a setup by TMZ.

So what, Jimmy boy fell right into their trap, but he's not the only one with that kind of attitude anyway, I attended my first/last Star Trek Convention upon finding out how much it cost me just to get an autograph from any Star Trek actor or guest star, then there was different circumstances with Walter Matthau, Mario Andretti, etc, now Jack Lemmon, Jeff Lynne and Richard Tandy are all class acts!

  13. Me too, hence my preorder, but if there is an intent to stifle any questions, constructive criticism or debate, then Atari Age should close this forum because I'm not interested in a mutual ass kissing society!

Because there's nothing constructive about it at this point. Same "Why wasn't game x on there?" and "It should have had x, y and z on it" and "It should have a cartridge port", etc. BS as 5 years ago. It was constructive the first few times someone asked those questions here. Now it's just whining, especially when we've answered everything already several times over just as we did back then.

Whatever, and people wonder why corporations like Atari along with many others lose equity or go bankrupt every year, it's because they think of their customers in that way, I will now call it the James Cameron attitude effect, see my movie, make me money, but, to put it mildly, forget about any autographs!

  14. I guess I'm not being realistic. Even if the FB2 had a slew of the best Activision titles, the top Imagic and Atari license games, how much more success would it have seen? Who can say, but considering that the bean-counting suits look at the FB's market demographic as 'impulse buyers' we're honestly lucky to be getting anything at all. And since that's the case, I feel it's fair to criticize their 'efforts'.

Indeed, but there are those that think otherwise with regards towards fans who voice any concerns, so bottom line, minus all third party licenses, how much more would this have cost them in time or money to just include every Atari owned title and as such making this a true Flashback 2+ with about 50-60 games?

  15. Because many people have a short temper because of some of the whiny/bitchy "why isn't x on this? And it's too expensive!" comments in this thread. It's a quick promo for cereal boxes, not the savior of retro gaming. I think it's pretty neat for what it is.
