  1. Room-34 - That is why I mentioned it wouldn't replace any sites as I find AtariAge, AtariMuseum, Atari-Explorer, and a few others a valuable resource. I would say it would work more with these sites than anything.

Chickybaby - Like I mentioned above, I would say it would work with these sites and would be up to the users to add. I would definitely think somebody would add an AtariAge link up there for "The Ultimate Atari Resource Site" along with the magazine :)

I just had a brain fart one day, $9 burning a hole in my PayPal account, and said why not. I like to play on the backend of software and stuff, I wanted to work on setting up a wiki site for some experience and figured Atari would be a great topic.

  2. With all the rage about Wiki's lately, I thought Atari needed one. I saw a post in some Commodore forums that somebody was or had created one. Anyway, I registered a domain name, and got the site up and going on my server.

If anybody was interested in donating time/helping with it, go ahead to http://www.atariwiki.com. If you aren't exactly sure how a Wiki works, it is a user editable website that anybody can change. Well almost anybody, I set it up so anonymous users can't make changes, only registered users. You can setup an Index or if you do a search, if something matches, it will bring it up, or display a blank page that the user can edit.

I am hoping that it is community driven/updated with hopefully as much info we can gather about Atari. I know it is a lofty goal and isn't meant to replace any other site. Just thought it would be a fun project. If people are interested, we could thread a conversation here and see how it proceeds.

    Thanks,

    Corey

  3. Was looking over my carts and noticed that AtariSoft games for the ColecoVision were the same size as my template. So I created a template for them. Here is Ms. Pac-Man. It was just a quick scan of the Ms. Pac-Man manual page from the Atari 5200. But you get the idea.

On a side note, Wikipedia's site is wrong for the AtariSoft font, They say it is the Univers Bold, it is the Futuri Extra Bold, non-italics as you can see in the pic. The C in Univers was all wrong. I will post the template tomorrow if anybody is interested. Maybe Atariboy is bored :)

Update: Well I thought I uploaded the Photoshop file. But for some reason it won't upload. It is only 8MB. I also added the end label now. I will upload them to my site and provide the links here shortly.

    Here are the links:

  4. Well hopefully somebody here would vouch for me as I have been online doing business for over a year. You can also check my Reseller Ratings and BizRate for info from users. As for order processing, most items take 24 hours to ship. Items like systems, cables, and joysticks will take usually 48 hours to ship. Each item should list an estimate shipping time on it.

    Thanks,

  5. It has been a long time coming, but we have switched over to our new site and we are live. We have just a few things left to do like copying over descriptions, updating some inventory, and transfering over some forum posts. But for the most part are ready.

    http://www.8bitclassics.com

We are also in the process of getting our new inventory back up on Froogle as it isn't taking our new froogle feed, but should be soon.

    Thanks,

    Corey

  6. For those of you who have purchased from us in the past (or needing something in the near future), we have put our current site in Maintanence Mode so we have time to finish our server upgrade and have a more accurate inventory. If anybody knows we have something in stock, please shoot me an email or PM me and I will see what I can do, especially on our custom labels. We expect to be back online around the 15th of March.

    Thanks,

    Corey

  7. I decided to create a example template in the new Paint .Net program that is available free for download at the following URL. .Net Framework 2.0 is required, so I think XP is required. I have also included two example images as an example. One is the Missile Command repro label, and second one is the same with a grey area that shows the area for keeping images and text within. Also attaching the full file to use with Paint .Net.

http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/ <- to download Paint .Net

If you want to use another program, here are the dimensions of the label.

    Label Itself: 828 x 1014 at 300 DPI.

With full Bleed area (to make sure you have a full print on the label): 975 x 1163 at 300 DPI.

Easiest thing to do is create the label at 828 x 1014, then change the Canvas size to the 975 x 1165. If you increase the Image size, it will just stretch out the image.

Anyway, if any questions, feel free to respond here, PM me, or email me at [email protected]

    Thanks,

  8. Thanks for the kind words PacManPlus! Hope you got your labels Ok finally?

As for smearing, just handling them (after you let the labels dry for a bit), is great. I haven't tried running water or anything on them personally though. I guess I could, but that is also why I started with the laser labels first as when those are printed, water won't smear them. When I get back to work, I will run some water on top of my sample print and see what happens. I would imagine it is based on ink also since they all aren't the same. I am printing on an Epson C320 InkJet.

Oh, and I apologize for the late response, I check the forums every couple days unless I get a notification, and for some reason, I am not receiving the notifications of new posts. Heavy traffic maybe?

  9. Thanks^_^ You know whats funny? I made alot of 26,52,7800 label art from drawing them by hand to re-created the origanl labels but I NEVER used any of them.

Actually I used all your artwork that you uploaded in my forums to test the new inkjet labels that I have. Actually one was the Space Invaders Arcade Edition for the 2600 (the others were Elevator Action, Adventure II, and The Last Starfighter).

I grab a cart also in about a week.

  10. Any chance you'll offer custom ColecoVision labels in the forseeable future? It would be nice, because I may be in a position to need such labels one day...  :D

Of course, finding CV plastic cartridge casings might be another challenge altogether, since I can't imagine violating commercial carts...  :P

Actually the 2600 labels fit the ColecoVision carts almost perfectly. They are short 1/8" and that is about it. Width is perfect. I haven't measured, but I think they might fit Activision carts also? Guess I will have to do that. As for getting them produced, I could, but would need a large amount of pre-orders as tooling/investment will take longer to recover than the 2600 labels which I still have done yet.

  11. I created an Access database a long while back. Then I created a page layout to print off my list and had 6 pages per 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Worked great for a pocket sized list that I could take into the thrift's or game stores to see if I have or not.

I started developing a database for my Windows CE system also, but saw some already available for certain WinCE apps.

But I just downloaded cart commander and will take a look at that.

  12. Here is a template in Photoshop that I created for AtariMax's ColecoVision 128 n 1 cart. I removed his specific information, but everything else is there including color/white logos with both label formats that I saw. Also is a general pic in pretty good quality (50% JPEG Quality). This label actually is formatted for our labels which fit the ColecoVision cart almost exactly except it is short maybe 1/8". Not bad though at all.

  13. I know "on demand" printing is all the rage these days, so if you already had the boxes, couldn't you pay someone like Harte Hanks (spelling?) to print say, 50 at a time?  It might be a little more expensive for custom printing, but I think it would also make it look better than something you could do at home.

The inserts are an entirely different beast, I have no idea what to do there.

Actually a generic chipboard box I think would work great, maybe just plain white with a foam insert. Then printing one's own slip cover based on need. That might work. Maybe I will check into that as a future project.

    Corey

  14. Imagic did that also I believe. That is an option though. But the first up front cost is expensive again with the tooling. If I ever get heavy into this, might be an option, but for now, I think the one I am doing will work very well.

    Corey

  15. I have researched this a lot this past year and it is very expensive. Quantities have to be at least 1000 to be somewhat cost effective, but that still doesn't include tooling. We have come up with a side solution that isn't exactly what somebody is used too.

At a auction of a computer store that went out of business, we purchase a ton of brand new 5 1/5" disk cases. They are all clear or smoke colored and look sharp. I am finalizing pricing on custom inserts for Atari 2600/ColecoVision sized carts and another for 5200 sized carts as I feel those will be most popular. We will also be purchasing clear labels that fit the cases perfectly that can be printed on laser or inkjet printers (I believe). So while it isn't exactly what somebody is used to, it is a great way to distribute and protect your investment. I am hoping to order the inserts after we receive our samples.

    Corey

  16. Well, I was confirmed that they shipped already. So I might actually receive this week. I was told probably a week before they would ship. Anyway, I will run the special until the 14th of Feb.

Another question, would there be interest in clear or frosted cartridge labels? I would have to purchase new tooling for it which adds to the cost. But wasn't sure if there would be interest. Nothing like a clear label on a black cartridge :?

    Corey

  17. No, you can have upto 4 different labels per sheet. The Avery Label Pro that I use for printing (and I have instructions for) allows you to print however you want (all the same, couple the same, print one now, save the rest for later, or print all different). With laser printing, you can only send the label sheet thru a few times. So if say you wanted to print 1 top label and 1 end label at a time, there would be a total of 8 times that it would need to send thru the printer. You would actually end up scorching the label material. I have gone thru 4 or 5 times without a problem myself with my printer. Now with an InkJet, this shouldn't be a proble as there is no heat.
