Just read something yesterday that all the early release games are only using one core of the CPU which makes sense. Why nothing isn't standing out at this point as "next gen". Usually you have to wait a year for people to start taking advantage of the hardware to see true next gen quality material. As for purchasing, I see it this way, first release consoles are more expensive, but have the most security holes. I love playing emus on my Xbox and PSP. If I got the 2.01 version of the PSP now, harder to hack and play the emus on it. Corey

I might get my FB2's in finally!
8bitclassics replied to 8bitclassics's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Verified and shipping out today. Will see them on Monday!!! Corey -
I had 24 pre-ordered with my distrutor, and this evening they popped up in the Chicago distribution center. They received only 24, so I am hoping they are all mine! Very excited, yet trying to keep my composure. I know I had a few ordering from AtariAge, so thank you for your patience! If everything goes Ok, I should see them Monday (if they ship to me at all and tomorrow). Still have a few available out of this batch not spoken for. Corey

If Atari made 'blue' labels for the 5200...
8bitclassics replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 5200
Great to hear, If you could forward your template to me, I am sure users would love that. Would post it in my forums for them to download. Zip file would probably make it smaller or if you wanted to post it up there also. Doesn't matter. Haven't ordered the inkjet ones yet, might be able to do it soon though. Will be ordering some other labels from them soon for a new project I am working on possibly. Dell is a great for printing and cheap, you can also now get the HP's Colors pretty reasonable. Are you using Photoshop for the labels? AtariBoy is going to be posting full version's up on my forums as I have space available. Corey -
There was suppose to be an article in the Sept/Oct issue about Plug and Plays including the Flashback2. I was interviewed by the gentleman about it and he was going to put 8-Bit Classics in the article. Just wondering if anybody has read the article. I tried contacting the person twice, but he hasn't responded. He was going to send me a copy of the magazine for my archive. Thanks, Corey

If Atari made 'blue' labels for the 5200...
8bitclassics replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 5200
Those look great! I think the flash has lighten them a bit when taking the picture, looks dark, but not navy dark. Anyway, to fix the color printing, make sure you are using a PostScript driver for your printer if available. It helped a lot when printing with my new Dell Color Laser. Worse time I had with printing was the greys would be greenish until I fixed it with the driver for color matching. Would love to see the Publisher template also. You made the template for my labels? Thanks, Corey -
Yup, they have the hard drives on top. Very light compared to the previous Xbox though. Guessing the brick takes a log out of it. First gen games are always like kind of underwhelming. But I think it will kick into high gear mid next year especially when the PS3 hits the stores. Corey

Haven't seen the demo myself yet, but, unlike PS3 which was "estimated", I don't think Microsoft was estimating what gameplay was going to be like. What they showed off at E3 and just recently was actual. I am sure the demo's were videos, but at what level? The Microsoft rep said that all stores should be getting new demo discs which was suppsoed to also fix the wireless problem that some stores were having. I believe new games were playable on this new disk as well. Don't know what is fixed for the wireless, maybe a firmware update of some sort? Corey
-
Just saw it being installed by a Microsoft rep in La Crosse, WI. She let me hold it Much lighter than the original Xbox. The power supply is the huge brick everybody is talking about, and the power connector on the Xbox 360 is very strange. Didn't get to play as she was still installing it though, but had a nice conversation with her. Corey

Still no FB2 in the Twin Cities...
8bitclassics replied to Room 34's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Thanks for the reply, no problem. Anyway, not holding you responsible of course. But either Atari blew thru 860,000 units and missed some people or the distributors don't actually like making money I have had these on pre-order since June with one distributor with no ETA posted until early October which listed 10/15, then 10/20, no 10/25. Just checked the site again, nothing and Wal-Marts site also hasn't been updated, still Coming Soon. Another distributor that I added in September had them listed, but have never received stock (talked last week with sales). He said, every week, Atari gives them a day, day passes and they get a new date. Like I mentioned, I was able to snap up some Wal-mart versions when seen, but have not seen them since. I have had three cancellations in the past week. Anyway, just grumbling, no it isn't your fault, was just hoping for any glimmer of hope saying, oh yeah, it was this day or will check. Thanks, Corey -
FRIED IT! I FRIED THE FB2!
8bitclassics replied to yoras's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Umm, you see them here and there, not everybody including Wal-marts website, EBGames, Gamestop, and two distributors that I deal with have them. Sounds like Target is finally getting it's shipment out, but that I believe will go thru quickly. My latest date is today, and haven't been updated yet on delivery. And neither was Wal-Marts site, still says Coming Soon. Expecting tomorrow to change to 10/31 or something similar. Corey -

8bitclassics replied to yoras's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Wow, sorry to hear that. $30 shot in the #$. Anyway, I highly doubt you would be able to order just the PCB, since they aren't even fully available to the public yet and you voided the warranty opening it. Possibly one of the developers might have an extra or it might be possible to repair. But doubt you would be able to get one from Atari direct anyway. Corey -
Still no FB2 in the Twin Cities...
8bitclassics replied to Room 34's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Still waiting for them from the normal distribution channel. They finally have had ETA's for delivery starting with 10/15, then 10/20, now 10/25 which I am guessing it won't make either. Gets frustrating when customers keep emailing about status of the FB2's and all I can say is we are still waiting. We have picked up 12 in the retail chain over the first few months they have been in circulation, but, they have all but dried up in the area. Problem the distributor said was on Atari's end, which they kept pushing back the shipping date. PMed Curt if he knew anything, but haven't heard anything back. Just a slow waiting game I guess. I don't even have one to get my grubby little hands on. Corey -
Not Garry Kitchen's which I believe was C64 only. I have seen some adventure creator's, but nothing yet for all in one like Garry's. Corey

From what I have read (and now learning by typing in the manual), ACTION! is supposed to be pretty easy to learn and can be compiled. Run-Time files have to be included with the distribution which limits it to being a disk I believe. If you want to do a straight Binary file (for cartridge), one of the assembler's would probably would do you best, but harder to learn than say BASIC or ACTION! If you do a google, you can find many reviews of them. Also, the Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org) has information on the different programmig languages for the Atari 8-Bit. As for the action manual, should be done in a couple weeks. Corey

Thought this might be of use to people, so I ripped it from the BASIC XL book I did and fit it to two 8 1/2 x 11 pages. PDF format, great printed back to back. Corey 8_Bit_ATASCII_Character_Set.pdf

Here is a review of some different BASICs including Turbo and BASIC XL. http://www.atarimagazines.com/v6n2/BASICBonanza.html They rate Turbo between Atari BASIC and OSS BASIC XL. Good read. Didn't even know of Turbo BASIC. Corey

Figured I would add some pictures of the manual in printed form. Biggest problem I had (and it is fixed) on the front cover, where it said "FOR ATARI", the ® was cut off, reduced and made it to fit appropriately on the on the cover.

In a previous thread I had asked to borrow copies of manuals from OSS products. My first finished product is the BASIC XL manual which is available for free at 8-Bit Classics. I have also used CafePress to print of the manual for those who want it printed and spiral bound. Received mine today and turned out very nicely. For those who previously downloaded, I made couple updates, so maybe you would like to download again? Mostly minor fixes and added the official OSS logo to the cover. Anyway, for a free download: Download To purchase, it is $15.00. http://www.cafepress.com/8bitclassics On a side note, currently working on the ACTION! manual and about half done right now. It will be made freely downloadable and will make available on Cafepress also. More pages, so will be a bit more expensive. Thanks, Corey Link Has Been Updated

Wanted - OSS Language Manuals (or scans)
8bitclassics replied to 8bitclassics's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks! Started on the Action! manual, and has a bit of a different layout. I think I will reproduce it more like the BASIC XL manual as I like how it turned out. Corey -
Wanted - OSS Language Manuals (or scans)
8bitclassics replied to 8bitclassics's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Finished for the most part the first manual in PDF: BASIC XL Reference Manual Can be downloaded at the following link: http://www.8bitclassics.com/product_info.p...products_id=527 For the most part, I think it came out rather nice, especially the ATASCII Appendix/Cross Reference. Changed the layout a bit, corrected spelling and other minor errors, added a table of contents/index, and also reproduced the front and back covers. If anybody downloads and uses it, and finds any errors, let me know, will update the doc and up another PDF with the corrections. Next challenge will be Action! followed by either BASIC XE or Mac/65 (hoping for Mac/65). I am hoping BASIC XE is for the most part the same as XL with a few updates, so won't take as long. Corey -

New Release Date for FB2
8bitclassics replied to danjapan's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
The unit I received from 8bitclassics in Wisconsin does not have voice on Quadrun. 917082 It was a Wal-Mart version. I cleaned stock at my local Wal-Marts, took a hit on the price so my pre-orders had something in hand. Only found 8 so far, but I believe 16 more should be around here soon as a manager I talk with ordered 16 more for me in case I needed them. Which I am expecting to since I will probably have to wait until October to get the rest of mine right now like everybody else. I will take the hit on my pre-orders so my customers get one in somewhat of a timely manner. Corey -

Thanks for the replies, PM sent and will look at the other to see if it is the same. For some reason, I was never emailed on updates? Corey
