Early PC games that need modern remakes
youxia replied to JBerel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
There won't be any microtransactions, it's players not companies who cheat online and I can't imagine C&C locked to a controller-only option. I'm all up for dumping on EA and other corps for right reasons but let's have some perspective. -

New version of ATARI 8 bit emulator released!
youxia replied to alpental's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
This is quite a revolutionary approach. Congratulations. It can be quite overwhelming though as well. Say, I have a directory with 1000 games...they all come on and start working...sensory overload I've just tried it and I admit I struggle with starting games. I tried Open Folder and select one, that usually does nothing. Dragging a folder with few games on the shortcut starts an instance but it seems stuck on a previous selection, even if I change games in the folder. Guess I'm doing something wrong here? -
Selling my collection with rare games like Akalabeth
youxia replied to Thorium's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Dungeon Campaign, wow. Even though I gave up on the idea of collecting long time ago, I get the "Place Bid" itch. -
I'd rather go with a Demobase 64. You get all the demos with a Gamebase frontend to browse them. Same option for games, though GB64 on archive is bit old (2011)

Sony: "new hardware is needed," Microsoft: "Project XCloud"
youxia replied to Flojomojo's topic in Modern Console Discussion
"Streaming and mobile games killing off the consoles" angle has been done to death during the previous generation's lifespan and when speculating on the possible failures of PS4 & friends. But of course it did not happen, and won't anytime soon. Mobile games, popular as they are, will never replace a 52" TV+ controller+powerful hardware experience, it's a completely diffferent fix, and streaming AAA games is still long way off (if ever) to be a main dish for variety of reasons. Similar story with everybody just moving off to PCs. Personally and despite the fact I don't own any modern stuff atm I quite like the current model, because it makes life a little bit more colorful. Console wars, different formats, exclusives and all that jazz are fun, plus add a competitive angle. I can't imagine anything more tedious (and bad for consumers) than a Unified Gaming Device. -
Is this off-meds Biff? Rogue AI's stream of consciousness? Hunter S. Thompson's zombie writing about retro games? Who can tell. Quite amusing though.

I have Pi2SCART and have configured most of the systems to display proper RGB. Atari ST is the last frontier. I think last I checked my main problem was something with the controls being all over the place and I couldn't even change any options in Hatari. And lr-hatari not working at all.

HSC15 Round 17: Starquake Pong Bertyx
youxia replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
Thing that gets me about Starquake is the respawning-enemies-that-go-through-and drain-you style, a pet peeve of mine. It was quite a trend back in the day, with lots of of games like Atic Atac using it and me loathin' on it. Not sure why...just gimme these solid hit boxes already. Apart from that it's quite a good, cute game. About Pong, I'll be blunt: I hate it I did give it a fair chance and got 500 points and lots of frustration for it. Carlsson, you have a patience of a buddhist monk to persevere with it. -
Me, for one. Back in the day this was the cutting edge. Plus, it's not that bad anyway, quite playable actually, and the crash replays were a great feature too. And I've seen many people playing similar slideshows on underpowered modern rigs, let's say Crysis or The Witcher 3, and still saying "it's fine".

Early PC games that need modern remakes
youxia replied to JBerel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Julian Gollop is probably my favourite designer of all time (next to Sid Meier) so I do of course know about thsi gem. Though, for some reason I could never get this to work, even back in the day. So working remake would be welcome, but I wouldn't like to see any changes, this is the kind of SVGA gfx I really love. -
Yes, but as with every other Mini it's more about a "cute" novelty present than a way to play those games. Besides, Zelda & Mario 64 are such landmarks that you could throw in maybe one more title and call it a day - and it'd still equal the libraries of other minis in terms of quality. And if they put Space Station Silicon Valley in, maybe even I would bite

How did you manage to get it - I assume it's Hatari - to display properly on a CRT monitor? It drives me mad and there's not much help from RetroPie forums.

Early PC games that need modern remakes
youxia replied to JBerel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm a fan of old gfx so don't really care about remakes. What I'd really like to see are proper sequels to some classics which are not dumbed down and streamlined but instead try to expand the gameplay in regards to overall complexity, AI and emergence. Hopefully Phoenix Point (from Mr Gollop, the XCOM creator), Stygian Abyss and System Shock 3 will deliver on this front, though these are done on a budget. From pure remakes, maybe Daggerfall...if only somebody could only fix that silly map and make it readable, it'd be great. There was actually taht Daggerfal XL project going on...wait, what's that? Daggerfall Unity? -
FS - PSIO Audiophile System PS1 Playstation - $500
youxia replied to hardcorehubz's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
The ridiculousness of PSIOs valuation aside, what is an "audiophile" PS anyway? -
I like how this went from the original argument - "all PC games sucked coz pirates made the devs poor" - to "console platformers were better than PC ones". Cute I'd say something but that would probably require going into pcmasterrace mode, and I cured myself of that tunnel-vision long time ago.

Which do you prefer between Montezuma's Revenge and Pitfall II?
youxia replied to TigerSuperman's topic in Atari 2600
It's all about Panama Joe of course -
I'm sorry, but this is so far-out that I'had to double check. Yep, NES had good action sidescrollers, for sure. PC on the other hand was a hotbed of innovative, complex games that laid the foundations for decades to come. And no, it wasn't just point'n click adventures, but also landmark RPGs, sims, strategy games and that whole 3D lark you might've heard about. The 1985-1995 DOS era is simply put one of the most important in gaming history. Saying that these games earned devs/publishers "zero dollars" because of piracy is another wild claim, but I'd rather not dwell on that well-worn angle. Suffice to say that many of these entities have thrived for years and later on became parts of modern corporate powerhouses.

Don't know about others, but I just don't like being manipulated - especially by hostile weirdos. A personal quirk of mine. -
8 years later, How has Kinect Aged as a gaming device?

Don't worry buddy, I just reported myself I'm sure the mods will see how it is a total coincidence that a guy who uses the same aliases and argues about the same topics got banned on Wikipedia for sockpuppetry. -

HSC15 Round 17: Starquake Pong Bertyx
youxia replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
You're doing a fine job too I like a lot of genres/styles but obvioulsy not all of them, so it's natural some rounds may happen to be less entertaining. I would've made some proposals but of all the games for assorted systems out there, Atari micro library is the one I know next to nothing about. Hopefully by the next poll I will have some candidates ready.
