  1. S'funny alright I just looked at the hearts and how well defined they are and that was my take. On a better quality pic the difference should be much more visible...kinda funny it takes people poring over details to tell it here though As for RF, again, there would be that "black noise" visible in darker areas, perhaps other interference too, which is why I try to steer clear of this connection when possible. I'm in Europe now and have 2 Trinitron sets connected via RGB and yep, the IQ on them looks pretty cool...but when I go back to Asia soon I will be down to my no-name Composite TV set (it's hard to source better one there) and can live with that quality too. I migh try to take some composite vs RGB pics from the Trinitron when I have a moment but it's a bit of pain to do it properly.
  2. I'd tag 1) Composite 2) SVid 3) RF but this is a bit of guesswork since CRTs are notoriously difficult to photograph. If you're not using a tripod it's very easy to produce even minuscule blur (since you have to set the f really low) which ruins such comparisons. The other thing is that RF's main problem is the amount of noise, again hard to photograph. That's why Composite is much better since it is both a bit sharper and stable. But I do agree that overall difference is not THAT great across all formats, including RGB, it's only been puffed up in recent years. I mean, of course RGB is better, but that does not render Composite totally useless. The viewing distance is a great factor too.
  3. 155K? Jaysis I played a bit yesterday but did not go over 25... It's tough as hell and jumping can be quite infuriating (especially when facing the canine threat). But still, it's one of the best games ever. So cute & inventive. Packs more varied gameplay into its puny kilobytes than most of the bloated, one-dimensional modern games. Llamas...interesting, but need to figure out what's going on here. And why my version (from Gamebase I think?) keeps crashing after the first death.
  4. 97,600 Funny, when I first saw this game I was hardly thrilled, now want to play it all the time (well, as much as my arthritic thumb allows for - gamepad stick is not ideal for this game). It's got that something...maybe the fact it's so intense from the start and also feels very rewarding.
  5. 97K (hell, even that 79K) on Zorp is pretty wild, what with this game being so devious Well done!
  6. 50,100 Great gameplay, though certainly much less imaginative than the original. It's also one of these control schemes I can never fully get used to...
  7. Dark Chambers - 332490 (Standard, level Y) So I saw I'm not ranked in the Standard bracket and thought why not have a quick go, just to scrape a few points. To my great surprise 1hr later I was still playing....might have something to do with my headache mixing quite well with the general dullness of the gameplay But, the fact is I really wanted to die, yet the game kept throwing supplies at me. Later on, around Q level it actually got quite interesting and now I regret wasting a lot of stuff and being generally careless because I might have finished it otherwise. It's also partially fault of the irritating bomb activation system - I wasted 2 or 3 thanks to the double fire-tap when not needed and also wasted lots of energy because of having to hunt for "1" on the keyboard in some supertight timing situations. Y u not SPACE or RETURN, ancient DC devs!?
  8. Well, it's a good thing that Twitter et al are troll-free, safe spaces then...
  9. Another day, another bit of hardware revisionist history is being made
  10. Ha, for sure point' n click (and some text) adventures could warrant their own thread regarding their madcap logic. I've played a helluva lot of them back in the day and don't recall finishing many... Most of the aforementioned examples might be a bit crazy but are more or less fun still - here's one I absolutely hate: knee-high "walls" as an obstacle. Especially when your character is a super agile ninja-like. It's partially understandable at level boundaries - but sometimes these are found bang in the middle... Side quest: the Fallout door ridiculousness
  11. Read his post: "You take stuff and profit off it or not and give it away for free without permission, it's theft". Clearly it covers all the bases. It's also quite mindboggling since during teh previous exchange I pictured this individual as somebody who's preaching from a pile of original carts and cds.Wow It's like those senators crusading against homosexuals, only to be caught with a rent boy in a cubicle. Amazing, what impossible constructs human mind can conjure. Suffice to say this is the last time I engage in any sort of exchange with Mr Tanooki... Re: "profiting", yes it's bad, mmmkay, and they shouldn't be doing it, but...oh well. I don't see emuparadise and other lower-key ones making such mad loot from some ads, and server costs can be high too - nevermind the risks. It's a shame. They've been around since forever and provided useful service for the less internet savvy. And the balance between the big boys and such operators has also been kept in reasonable status quo for a loong time. Some of us who have "everything" may say they do not care, but it's just not good, not fair on the newcomers too. No point in rehashing the old anti-piracy arguments, that leads nowhere fast - but the fact is that without the dirty rotten jolly roger scoundrels this hobby would be dead in the water during the decades when the big players didn't care a jot about retro gaming. It's a thing now, but some will remember the days when only newsgroups and Home Of The Underdogs (hail!x3) and some abandonware rings were the only ones who cared. And a fun fact for the righteous-minded: Marcin Iwinski, the founder of CD Projekt (gog/The Witcher) started as a pirate, a profiteering one too. I think I actually bought some ZX Spectrum warez off them back in the day
  12. I tried to read this in a few possible ways but I still struggle to understand. Now, I'm a known dumdum so perhaps you could clarify things a bit? I mean - these emuparadise guys are spineless thieves (nevermind all the other commies and idiots) but you are okay to leech whatever you please from elsewhere? How does this work exactly?
  13. YOU SAID ALLEY CAT One can play Mercenary for HS? I like the themes, they're fun but I don't really know anything about Atari games so can't make a particular pick. I did vote Best of Basic and Budget Shooters.
  14. That, make it a bit faster overall and scratch the idea that even the basic enemies require a few hits to kill. It's not bad indeed but I just don't like to play it for HS since I have to slog through early boring stages first. I played on advanced but I don't remember which stage I got to....E or F maybe?
  15. The sooner we start the better R Type Leo 64th street: A Detective Story Baraduka Carrier Air Wing
  16. I also thought one other reason this game (DC) is not very well suited for HS is because of this spawn point farming possibility. But then... -we're not Twin Galaxies, just playing for fun right? -there's some sort of hunger clock built in so you lose health -the tedium of it!
  17. I get this quite often these days Regarding the OP, seems it's time for one of those smarmy "So it's been X posts already and nobody mentioned Y?" kinda replies. Behold: So it's been 20 posts and nobody mentioned Secret Of The Monkey Island?
  18. I would go further and say most online games, like that xckd comic proposes. It's a truism, but, well, a true one. Same with commenting, online dating, what have you. Guess in FPS games the adrenaline build up might be faster and more explosive than in a MMORPG but as we all know these games can also be full of obnoxious twerps. And I find raging on COD rather boring, it's became the whipping boy of videogaming over the years. But in reality there's nothing especially wrong with this series than with any other long running one. Most their games are at least solid, the endless tweaking of the MP towards monetization just the sign of the times and general malady. I also don't believe the obnoxiousness is a modern thing - I was a Quake 1/2 fanatic and things could get pretty hairy back then too, only texting takes more time, is nigh on impossible in-game and spamming few "u fag" kinda binds can be easily ignored. Remember the same watching the RTS Starcraft crowd too. Later on I stopped playing MP altogether, only was addicted to Planetside 2 briefly recently. Then I simply played without the voice chat on. Could be a problem if you're a team-oriented player, but I guess there are some basic text binds for that too.
  19. That simple ad from Atari is like staring at clouds...we all see different things. They really have the power to fire up people's imagination! Here's my take:
  20. Kinda cute. If you skip the shooting bits, it could well pass as a 2018 indie adventure with "clean, minimalistic design"
  21. I kind of liked it, maybe even more than Flashback itself, not quite sure why though. Maybe because I have great sentiment for early PSX 3D games? I liked the overall atmosphere too. Fun fact: even though it's by no means my favourite game , the original ended up in my suitcase by a weird string of coincidences and eneded up traveling to the other side of the globe with me. Another World itself did actually have a direct sequel, called Heart Of The Alien, released for Sega CD, of all platforms. Mr Chahi was not involved though. He himself designded Heart Of Darkness - cool game I meant to play since forever but never got around to. Which reminds me - I do have an active PSX connected atm...
  22. ROTFL. It's the heatwave And the fact I was fascinated by having 012345 string in that score. Glad there's some level headed folks around here.
