  1. Since the license is AGPL, couldn't they just use it? Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with Atari or Activision as they exist today, both have become pretty bad. They're definitely no good at engaging the community. If they entertained the idea, I'd be suspicious of their motives. They'd obviously want a license that lets them close the source and add some kind of DRM to it. Maybe they'd pay well for such a license, or maybe they'll find something in the code that lets them claim IP ownership and take the whole project. I'd be less surprised by the latter, but I'm a skeptic. P.S. I love what you've done. I likely never would have started playing with 2600 programming if it wasn't for 8-bit Workshop embedding javatari.
  2. Galagon (Galaga port) is fantastic, should be available on cart soon.
  3. @Andrew Davie Cool. I would have done it in PHP/mySQL, but my lack of experience would have made it a bit slower. For the record, I hate MS just as much, I use Linux for personal use, I won't even install .NET Core. But my career has lead to using MS stuff for almost all my employers/customers. It's all enterprise software and since they're just self-inflicting MS lock-in on themselves, and not the general public, I don't feel too guilty about it
  4. Got any takers yet? I'm a software developer. Mostly work on the MS stack, but I'm sure I could handle using whatever tech you'd prefer.
  5. Hard to tell from the pic but my first instinct is to blame the TV. I had a weird problem with a copy of Adventure on a modern TV and almost returned it, but I knew enough about the system to realize what I was seeing couldn't possibly be a cart error. Worked perfectly on a different modern TV. I know, nobody has two television sets, but have them try anyway.
  6. "These motion registers should not be modified during the 24 computer cycles immediately following an HMOVE command. Unpredictable motion values may result." I know what I'm doing for the rest of the day.
  7. Same code, just retitle it Bnuer Dash.
  8. I couldn't find any info on "Atari X Programming Environment" you talked about in the last show. Do you have any links?
  9. It's fixed now. Looks like it's not a WordPress site any more (probably to avoid more hacking) and now has some fun, interactive content.
  10. Looks like the site's been hacked :/ It's currently a tax refund form.
  11. What, you don't like having to login and then download an 8GB system update and then a 20GB game update every time you turn on?
  12. I know Sega Genesis controllers can be used with a 2600. But, could the Atari Paddle and/or Driving controllers be safely connected to a Genesis? Could a game be programmed to utilize them? Has it been done? I love spinner controlled games, but there's only so much that could be done on a 2600, I wonder what could be done with next gen hardware.
  13. https://i.imgur.com/2dpGbDu.jpg Mine is copyright 1988 but that seems to be what I've got, you can even see the indents in the sticker where those holes are. I have like 30 carts, I guess this was the first I got from that era. Are these known not to fit into light sixers? It's uncomfortably snug, I'm not even going to try putting it in again.
  14. I just posted a topic about how I thought I got a fake copy of Kangaroo. Based on your pics, looks like I just got a crappy late release (1988/89 based on copyright). I thought the lack of dust cover, holes inside exposing the back of the sticker and the perforated edges on the circuit board were indicative of a fake but it looks like it was par for course later on. Out of curiosity, do the newer carts have a tighter fit in a light sixer? The cart I have barely fits (and doesn't work, but that's not uncommon in itself).
  15. I bought a copy of Kangaroo I'm pretty sure is a complete fake. The cart looks legit at first glance but, for one, there is no dust guard. Two, there are holes on the inside sticker side that expose the sticky part of the sticker in the shape of the left and right guides, as if the guides were cut out of that part of cart. Three, the cart is too big for the Atari. Four, the exposed part of the circuit board have seemingly fresh perforation marks like a modern board would have. Five, the plastic inside the cart looks fresh, maybe even 3D printed. Six, it doesn't work even after jamming it in a little too forcefully into the Atari. My only question is, why would anyone waste their time and money making fake Atari carts when they go for $1 USD? Edit: Nevermind, looks like it might just be a later relase. The pics in this post show a Pacman cart with similar features http://atariage.com/forums/topic/282403-us-1985-new-game-releases/
  16. I run Night Driver's anti-burn routine on my TV, when I have no intention of playing it, just for atmospheric enhancement.
  17. I've become better at not looking for spoilers. When I was a kid, I don't think I ever once beat a game or found an easter egg without using Nintendo Power or strategy guide. About a year ago I beat Dragon Warrior without knowing a single thing about it. VVVVVVVVVVVV*SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS*VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV I spent 3 - 5 hours looking for the Shield of Erdrick before trying to fight the final boss. I finally gave up and just did the fight without it, and won, easily. Turns out the shield doesn't even exist in the game, I had everything I was meant to have. All the other outfits included a shield so, naturally, I assumed the best one would as well. However, I don't consider that time wasted, I don't think there's a tile of that world I haven't seen or a character who's comments I didn't analyze to death looking for hints. Map exploration has a distinct kind of satisfaction on it's own.

  19. Finally got an update from the man himself in this Reddit Ready Player One thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/readyplayerone/comments/8of906/warren_robinett_answered_your_questions/ Before too long cannot come soon enough
  20. I actually read that somewhat recently Didn't remember what site it was on though. I swear I searched before I asked but it was through arcadeattackpodcast.podbean.com so that article didn't show up. Edit: In fact, I was looking for that exact article recently because I remembered it was the most recent interview with mention of "The Annotated Adventure", after 2016. Where the heck is that damn book Anyway, he responsed to the Reddit user, might do an AMA: https://www.reddit.com/r/readyplayerone/comments/8n681n/warren_robinett_answered/
  21. Very cool interview. Have you ever tried to get an interview with Warren Robbinett? There's some interest over at the Ready Player One subreddit in hearing from him about the book/movie (currently the top thread) and I've been dying to hear about what's going on with "The Annotated Adventure".
  22. http://warrenrobinett.com/annotated/index.html I've been keeping any eye out for this for a few years now but it seems like it's never going to emerge. I've been looking for any hint as to what might be holding it up, or worse, killed it, but I haven't found anything. I even tried emailing a few weeks ago. Does anyone know if it's ever going to happen?
  23. First run on Stella, got 40 points I love the how-many-balls-can-I-juggle-at-once type of game. I never thought of recreating these LCD games on Atari. When I was a kid, Tiger Electronic Bowling used to get passed around at family functions for hours. I think I might try remaking that.
  24. Impaler_26 you have 2600 posts. You must never post again! Or post another 2600 times (I just now realized where 5200 came from).
